Former WWE performer to headline free wrestling, Halloween event in Springfield

A former WWE superstar is visiting Springfield for a series of community events focusing on inspiring local families and young people. The event, hosted by Union Capital Springfield, featured Sidney Bateman, also known as Reggie or Soleil. Bateman visiting the Colonial Estates this evening to share stories with local families and young people about overcoming challenges and pursuing their dreams. Organizers say the event is designed to inspire community members. Bateman spoke to 22 News about his humble beginnings and how he never gave up on his dreams. I come from similar places as some of these people watching me from their couch in their home. My mom died when I was three, and I never knew my dad. My mom was a drug addict. And through it all, I persevered, overcame all of that, and I traveled the world. I learned another language. I performed in over 30, 40 different countries. And if I can do it coming from where I come from, in St. Louis, Missouri, Northside, Walden Park, then you can too. On Saturday, Union Capital Springfield and its community partners will host a free marketplace day and resource fair at Springfield Pharmacy on State Street.
