He's not chasing the bag
as we got some new updates regarding contract negotiations for
this Houston star player that along
with recent trade rumors about Houston possibly trading for
a new running back. What's up ladies
and gentlemen welcome back to Texans Digest. I'm your host as
always Isaac Estrada. Man we got a lot we need to talk about today.
We got some updates regarding
contract negotiations for this star player
that along with some trade rumors man that a lot of
people have been drawing up. We're going to take
a deep dive into all that and see do the Houston
Texans even bite on it, as well as does it even make sense
for this team. But right before we
dive into all that, man, about 90% of you guys still
not subscribed. So do your boy a favor,
hit that subscribe button. You're going
to be getting daily updates here on Texans Digest.
We are at 3,100 subscribers. We are on the road to 4,000.
So it would mean a lot to me if you
were to subscribe, but either way, I appreciate you for watching.
But man, let's not waste any
more time. Let's start off with the news about CJ Stroud.
So Stroud keeps focus on football at
mid-contract talks, Stroud prioritizing the game over contracts.
If you guys have been keeping up
lately, right before the season started,
huge contract negotiations went down with CJ Stroud.
He was demanding $60 million a year.
Houston said, hey, we're not going to give that to you. Let's
play this season out and see how it goes.
They wanted to give him $50. He turned it down. He
said, I want that Cheddar. I want that Patrick
Mahomes Cheddar. I want that Josh Allen Cheddar.
Now he's seeking $60. Likely going to be $60 million
a year for the next four years is what
we're looking at, or $60 million per year
for the next four years is what the Houston
Texans would likely offer him if this season continues to get better.
But C.J. Stroud had said this when talking about it.
So C.J. Stroud's philosophy on the contract negotiations
and staying focused is what he
had to say.
Keep the main thing the main thing.
I think if you chase the deal, you lose sight of yourself.
Chase the game, not the bag.
I completely agree with that 100%.
C.J. Stroud right now, he says he's focused on the game,
and it'd be different if he's
like, I mean, I'm focused on the game and we were 0-6, right?
But the past two weeks have been better
for the Houston Texans. I think this team
is genuinely starting to find itself. They beat,
they put a whooping on the Tennessee Titans.
That's obviously a good start. Right after that,
they go into Jacksonville's home away from home
and pick up a nice win over the Jacksonville
Jaguars. So I think those two mixed together with C.J. Stroud saying,
hey, I have a job to do right
now. And that job is to win football games.
That job is to lead the Houston Texans to a Super Bowl
that he says he wants to do. That is his job right now.
So I understand that. But I'm going to leave
it up to you guys. And this is what I want to talk about now.
Should they give CJ Stroud the bag?
I've had a lot of people kind of flip their heads on this.
A lot of people say, hey, we're two and
four. Let's wait. A lot of people say, hey, no, we're two and four.
Don't give CJ anything. A lot
of people in this community are very divided on whether
or not they want to give CJ Stroud that
contract. And I get it. I 100% get it, man.
CJ Stroud, coming into the NFL, he was seen as one
of the best prospects behind Bryce Young.
After his rookie year, everyone was saying, what a steal
that Houston took him over Bryce Young, CJ Stroud has
been balling his rookie year went phenomenally
he was in MVP conversations since
then we've been consistent playoff contenders but we haven't been
able to make it to that dance man we have not been able
to make it past the second round and that has
been CJ Stroud's biggest clutch
or not biggest clutch biggest weakness so it's gonna take a lot
more than that there's some fans saying hey he's proven
that he's worth that and there's some fans
saying hey man unless you've got a Super Bowl ring
on that finger it does not matter you don't
deserve that 60 million. So I want to leave it up to you guys.
But before we do that, I'm going to
bring up the stats, man. We're going to bring up the stats here.
So CJ Stroud on the season, put it
on the big screen. So far, we had talked about it a few days ago.
We're going to bring it up again.
So far this season in six games, 1,700 passing yards,
nine touchdowns, one interception, 76 yards
on the ground, 65% completion percentage.
Something I'm going to give CJ Stroud credit for. This season
so far, these are the least amount of interceptions he's ever thrown
so far through the first six
games. CJ is looking great so far. He's looking good.
He's not turning the ball over a lot and
something else I like. We saw it a lot in that Jacksonville game.
What was CJ Stroud's biggest
issue his first few years in the NFL?
Against the Blitz, he really struggled. CJ Stroud has always
struggled against the Blitz in the NFL so far.
This season, he's looked a lot better against the
Blitz, especially against Jacksonville last week.
Jacksonville sent the Blitz on CJ constantly and
CJ constantly found a way out of it.
Every single time he constantly found a way out of it. That
on top of the fact that he just had a great game in.
He just had a great game for them.
So you'd love to see it for CJ Stroud.
And I'm going to pull this up really quickly
before we ask you guys if he deserves that contract.
CJ Stroud, he's one of the most productive passers
in the league, man.
1,700 passing yards against a league medium
of 1,300 among players who play as much.
So we're looking at players, NFL players,
who have played six games.
We're talking about quarterbacks, obviously.
You look at guys like Matthew Stafford.
You look at guys like Bo Nix.
Those are guys who are seen as better
than CJ Stroud last season
who are really struggling right now.
Guys like Drake May.
Obviously, Drake May's starting to look better now.
But those are guys who have already thrown eight, nine interceptions.
We're looking at a guy like CJ Stroud
who has not only more passing yards than them,
but also more touchdowns, less interceptions,
not being a turnover machine,
and has been phenomenal against the Blitz.
And not only that, he's been great at elevating this team, man.
I think since CJ Stroud this season, since Marvin's been on this team,
he's done a great job of elevating Marvin Harrison Jr.
I think, obviously, that makes sense
because they played with each other in college.
That, mixed with the fact that Tank Dell's coming back,
We obviously know they're going to have a great connection.
And I've talked about it multiple times, man.
I think the Houston Texans have the best wide receiver core in the NFL.
And I think that that's absolutely the case.
I think it's absolutely the case.
And I think that is helping CJ as well.
But I'm going to ask you guys the award-winning question.
I'm going to ask you guys, what should
the Texans prioritize in Shroud's contract?
Type A for locking him up long-term now or waiting until the offseason?
Because what I've seen out of this Houston
Texans fan base, man, we are very split.
A lot of people are very split right now on it.
If you want to give CJ Stroud that contract,
or if you want to wait till the offseason,
see how the season goes, because there's still
a lot of people saying, hey, unless I see
a Super Bowl ring on that finger, CJ does not deserve this money.
But as always, I want to know what you guys think.
We're going to talk about the next story now,
man, because it's insane, man.
It is insane.
So I'm sure most of you guys know,
but Forever Football had brung it up, man.
They had talked about it.
ESPN's Ben Sulkowski proposed a mock trade
that would send Eagles star running back Saquon
Barkley to the Houston Texans.
something I want to talk about very quickly I understand
that the Houston Texans offensive
line has been struggling I understand
that the run game has not been there and I'm going to
give my opinion on the Saquon Barkley trade
and I know what a lot of people are already saying hey
why are you even covering this this is just rumors guess what we cover
the Marvin Harrison Jr. rumors
whenever they were going on look at the two most popular videos
on this channel it was covering the
Marvin Harrison Jr. trade
because that genuinely had some smoke behind it same thing here Saquon
Barkley's been a little bit more injury prone Eagles obviously
our thoughts and prayers go out
to Jalen Hurts, but I think after Jalen Hurts got
that blood clot, the Eagles are kind of looking
at this saying, hey, do we need to start shipping people out?
Saquon Barkley's already on the
decline. So I'm not surprised that he's
been a big trade target for a lot of teams. And also,
we know we need a running back, man.
We need a running back. And obviously, I know a lot of
people want to give credit to Woody Marks.
I don't know. I don't know if I trust Woody Marks to be
our RB1. Obviously, for the rest of the season,
I think that's the idea. Headed into the draft,
I think you draft a young guy in the third or fourth round.
But this is what the proposed
trade would be so put it on the big screen man
this is the mock trade Houston receive Saquon
Barkley the Eagles receive Woody Marks
a third round pick this year a six round pick this year
and a second round pick
in 2028 I'm gonna just flat out say man absolutely not absolutely not
for the Houston Texans I'm not that guy I'm
not that Houston Texans fans that that immediately
comes out and starts saying yeah let's let's make
the trade the only thing this would benefit in
terms of the Houston Texans is publicity in my opinion
because Saquon Barkley is a big name
he's a big name man and Saquon Barkley
is a big name I think other than the big name value we're
not going to get anything out of the Saquon Barkley
trade trading away Woody Marks alone I think that's
already too much like I said I don't know if Woody Marks
is the RB1 that we should depend on for the
future I don't know I don't think
so just based off of how Woody Marks has performed I know a lot
of people are saying well the the offensive line
is struggling I get that I still don't know if
Woody Marks is that number one dependent RB1
that we can look at to be a top 10 guy I still think
he has a lot more value than just straight up an older Saquon Barkley
though let's break it down a
little bit more a third round pick way too much
a six round pick okay a second round pick in in
2028 absolutely not man I think at this point
of Saquon Barkley's career it is insane to to even
consider making a blockbuster blockbuster trade
for Saquon Barkley I don't think so at all we're
gonna pull up the stats right here Saquon Barkley
on the season 190 scrimmage yards 182 rushing
yards five yards to carry no rushing touchdowns
obviously we'll put it up on the big screen here
he's only played a few games only played four games
and I think at the time I'm recording this
he's already dealing with another injury
and questionable for their next matchup but look at
it right here man in four games 36 attempts 182
rushing yards zero touchdowns four receptions for
eight yards through the air and I get it man Saquon
when he came off of the Giants and went to
Philly all of a sudden he rejuvenated his career had
a great season that's when they won the Super
bowl last season had a pretty solid season
as well obviously not as strong but age starts to
catch up with players especially running back
be such a physical position this season we really
seen Saquon Barkley finally start taking that dip
and I don't think it would make any sense at all
for the Houston Texans to trade
for an older running back hang on let me put it back up on
the graph I believe this shows his age yeah 29
and we know running backs they have one of the
shortest life expectancies in the NFL we're
starting to say it now we're running backs
they play out their rookie contract
and then teams dump them I think they have more value than that
but at the same time Saquon Barkley's pushing 30
years old I don't think Houston should trade a
young running back plus multiple other picks
for that I just I'm not seeing that and I completely
disagree with that but as always I want
to know what you guys think I posted a short on this if
you guys look at my shorts I posted a short
on this about 40 people commenting talking about how
this is the worst idea and people even getting mad
at me saying hey man well how dare you even
post something like this I'm like hey bro don't shoot
the messenger don't shoot the messenger
right so but as always I want to know what you
guys think let me know if you guys think this
trade is worth it as well as let me know
in the comments what you guys think they should do about
the CJ Stroud situation
but thank you guys as always for tuning in today on Texans Digest have
a great day have a blessed day I'll see you guys tomorrow
