into what they're trying to accomplish with the
Red Wings this year,

situations, how the team is playing right now.

is a nice distraction from what's
been happening.
And we're going to break that all down
and much more in this episode of Red Wings Digest.

It's been growing very quickly.
And Mark and I thank you so much for your support here on the channel.
But Mark, let's get right into it.
MBN, let's start with him.
he's been outstanding i mean he has been everything
that we thought that he needed to be
coming into this season so far this year eight points
so far in 10 games played he is a plus
10 he is throwing a lot of hits he is one
of the most physical players for his time on ice in not
just rookies the entire national hockey league
so far mark so he's been awesome people have been
talking about him in the comments below we've
been seeing the comments he's playing again like 15
minutes he's making the most of his minutes
and he continues to climb up and up the lineup this
is a guy last season that you know looking
at his production in the AHL you go he's too good for the
AHL he needs to be an impact player
and we knew that he was going to be at some point in the NHL
but Mark we saw him at the end of last season there's
a lot of question marks those question
marks followed us into the summer we got distracted
with some other stuff we were talking about during
the summer of course but what do you make of MBN
so far because he's been good continues to work
his way up the lineup and he's going to continue
to get these opportunities i mean the NHL dominant
every single year he was down there you looked at him
and like you highlighted too good to be down
there he made the jump into the NHL for a set number
of games just last season and the points
never really produced but he never looked out
of place it was just a matter of time and that time
is now because MBN is putting the league on notice this is a young kid
and i want to give a shout out
to this development group
and all the young players coming through it feels like season
after season we've seen with Benny
who's stationed on that second line came in last year as a young
player and dominated found his spot within this team
and is now a second line center which is
insane to say and now MBN is doing exactly
that despite all the negativity around this team with
a first line center former captain still wanting out
this is a team that has a hell of a lot of fun
things happening and it's the young guys something
we've hammered home all off season long is this
team truly does have a lot of guys in the weeds fighting
and MBN is just the first start of that
on the first line one of the most dominant players joining
this Red Wings organization this year
as full-time Dearest i'm so excited on how he's continued to grow
and just going back to the stats
once again this is the guy that's producing
on every aspect that's scoring assist his on ice
production hitting everything this kid is doing is turning heads
and i love that this is happening
So early in his NHL career
Yeah and you also outlined you know
Vinny who's you know for as much as we were
Talking at the end of last season how bored the
Center was on this team you know
He's looking pretty good at center too and he continues
His development and again
MBN to me I said on the channel
Multiple times I didn't like his end of the season
There was nothing really there and you're like
Oh my goodness like what is this player going to be at the
NHL level right is he just another
Really good AHL player but then he
Went to the world championships he looked really good
There and then he comes into this season you're like okay
there he is he has arrived this is the player right
and again he's just playing super well and
if you take a look at how the atlantic division
is shaping up from the start of the season to today
i made the point yesterday the red wings are not out
of it yet like this is a team that despite
so many distractions despite
their own you know uh ownership arrogance whatever word you want to
use malpractice all of that stuff they are not out
of it yeah they have 11 points and i mean
you're just a couple points out of a playoff spot
at this point another guy and i brought up here
on screen a little bit another guy i want
to outline too is Luke Freeman he's been really
good to start this season as well he has nine points
in 10 games pretty crazy to think that
Luke Freeman has less points than MBM right now
but uh he is uh continuing his hot streak too he's
getting a ton of minutes as well
and another guy that Todd McLellan needs to rely on heading into
tonight's game it is uh projected i'll use that word
that MBM will be on the top line with Freeman
and Larkin and then of course uh
by the way Arvidsson has been real good too so uh he's
another really good bright spot
and a nice parting gift from Steve Eiserman the last thing i'll say
too on this very quickly i want to move
on to John Gibson is uh i see some of the comments too
and yeah we did dump on Steve Eiserman
but it's okay to change your opinion sometimes as you
you know get new information
and i think everybody's really opened their eyes to the
fact that hey it's probably an ownership thing here
at this point like people were like it's
probably ownership
but maybe Steve Eiserman is making some bad moves i i have to i have to
believe that there's probably an internal cap
at this point like there's so many puzzling things
happening from uh from the top down now John Gibson mark he left
the last game uh obviously
we know that uh there's some injury troubles
on the uh in the goaltending position for Detroit
Red Wings but today Todd McLellan revealed
that John Gibson will be starting so he's back he got
something in his eye in the last game he had
to leave the last game that opened the door for
Michael Poskova to get his uh first NHL action
in that game he looked pretty good i mean 5-1
winning against Vancouver Canucks
but uh they continued their road trip John Gibson is back
but there's a lot of talk about um you know yes he's
a great goalie not the best numbers this year
i guess he's a good goalie but a lot of fans seem
to want him to be traded hey he's a UFA let's get
what we can for him right now
and a lot of people are looking at the New York Rangers do you think
that they should trade him do you think they should hold
on sign the contract extension
are some of the younger guys ready Trey Augustine had
a brilliant last game in the AHL too he
stopped a lot of shots went to overtime
and he made a big big save so what do you uh what do
you make of this as well i want
to say firstly John Gibson getting into this game going against
Calgary and Vancouver that's two gifted wins
or it should be at least and it's a good way for John
Gibson to get back in the groove he looked good versus Vancouver
of course that game was totally
lopsided in the favor of Detroit
which you love to see with the team looking and fighting to stay in
the Atlantic race but with John Gibson it's interesting I want
to make it very clear I'm
a huge fan of John Gibson going back to his day with the Ducks
when he was an absolute workhorse
he dragged them into playoff games he was on a bad team
and finally got destroyed which I guess
you could say is a bad team yet again
but hey optimism this is a team that's going to end up
making the playoffs John Gibson is super interesting
because again you know the goaltender
of the future is developing
and blossoming right now in the AHL with Trey Augustine and you know
no matter what happens that is who you want
as your number one goaltender Tarasov stepped in and
has been lights out since coming of course dealing
with an injury hence the cost of a call-up but
looking at John Gibson one year left
on that contract goalie contracts and of course contracts
around the NHL continue to rise
so looking at this if you're not going to commit to signing
this guy to an extension you can look at it
in two ways there is of course the goalie market's
a weird one guys like this could be traded
for a first we somehow seen with Tristan Jarry joining
to Edmonton Oilers but there's other goaltenders
that of course go for a little bit less where you
see guys go for thirds fourths whatever it might
be so if you're in the position I think you wait
till Christmas closer to trade deadline
because the big thing here is if you're not going to sign
him this is your rental for the year if he's going
to be your starting goaltender going into the
playoffs you're committed to making the playoffs you make the trades
and still make that push I
like the fact of having a rental for completely free
but if the goalie market's there if there's
a team offering more than you expect like we've seen
with the Edmonton Oilers and Tristan Jarry
I think you really got to look into it
because there's a lot of questions around the goaltending
here and if Tarasov is playing well enough why
not give that kid the reins of it and get some
actual assets for John Gibson yeah
and I think that it's you got to really see how the next
little while goes because right now they're one point out
of the wild card spot and it's way too
early obviously like this division is going
to be on fire for the entire season it's going to be
tight very tight but and the bruins just seem
to never want to die or go away so uh it's going to
be tight till the end so i think you need to see how the next month
or so goes uh and really see
interest around the league as well
because what i think is interesting is the rangers are in a very
unique situation where you can go out
and say hey we know you need a goalie right we know that
would you like john gibson he has better numbers
or you know if you wanted to compare the two you
could and Stanley Cup pedigree
and all that type of stuff to Jordan Binnington who's in a similar
spot right so I think you need to see how the next little
while goes and then make a decision
but you're right like Trey Augustine
is the goaltender of the future I feel like you might
have found something here with Daniil Tarasov
who has been playing very well although small sample
size with the Red Wings specifically but you
also have Michael Poslava who has looked really good
too with the Grand Rapids Griffins
and earned that call up never mind just injuries right so
going to be interesting to see they're still
in the mix despite all this turmoil despite missing
one of their best defensemen as well will it catch up
to them will they trade john gibson
there's going to be a lot of questions to ask down the stretch
but guys let us know how you
feel about everything we discussed today
in the comments below john gibson will start tonight
and mbn has been on absolute fire
