James Coffman will report today the Department
of Homeland Security deports South American
illegal aliens to Africa. The safe third country agreement.
Absolutely epic. The Department of
Homeland Security has deported numerous illegal aliens
from Latin America to the Democratic
Republic of Congo is part of a bilateral agreement
that allows the U.S. to send third
country nationals to African nations
when their home countries refuse repatriation or when
migrants successfully block removal by claiming
their lives would be in danger in their home
countries. This group arrived in the Congo today.
Can I just say? An official from the
Democratic Republic of Congo confirmed
the arrival to the Associated Press, but provided
no further details.
U.S. Attorney Alma David, who represents one of the deportees, told the
Associated Press that the migrants are all from Latin America,
but the Congo is now their home.
I personally think this was an epic move.
If you can't go home and you can't stay here,
we'll pay for you to go elsewhere.
The deportations are part of the Trump administration's
expanded safe third country removal policy.
And for one, I know I definitely feel safer.
What about you?
This approach bypasses all legal maneuvers commonly used by migrants
who persuade immigration judges that returning
to their home country would be unsafe.
The policy also addresses cases where countries such as India, China,
Vietnam, Laos, and others refuse to accept their own nationals
who have left, particularly those with criminal records.
According to reporting, the Trump administration has now
secured agreements with at least seven African nations,
including the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Rwanda,
South Sudan, Uganda, Eswatini, and Equatorial Guinea.
Additional deals are under negotiation
with more than 40 other countries.
Migrants have already been sent to Ghana, Rwanda,
South Sudan, and Uganda under similar arrangements.
Reuters reportedly earlier this week said that Congo was preparing
to accept at least 45 deportees in the initial group,
though the confirmed number that arrived was much smaller,
which means they can send another batch their way.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo government has described
the arrangement as temporary
and has been paid by the U.S. to facilitate this.
The policy was revived after
the Biden administration canceled several similar safe third
country agreements established during Trump's first term in 2021.
One, congressional Democrats are pooping all over themselves
and have criticized the program noting that in February,
the administration had spent roughly $40 million to deport only
a few hundred migrants to third world countries.
Trump administration officials view the strategy as an effective tool
that pressures detained migrants to agree to voluntarily repatriate
to their home countries rather than risk being sent to a distant,
unfamiliar location in Africa.
Again, may I say, absolutely epic.
Good luck on getting home, guys.
