The organization aims to distribute 500 new or gently used winter coats to children in need, while providing a day of family-friendly activities and support for young entrepreneurs.
And welcome back. The annual Coats for Kids community event
is returning next month right here in Detroit.
Their goal to distribute 500 new winter coats to kids in need.
Joining me this morning from Purpose Driven Cares, DeMarco Moore.
Thank you so much for coming on in. Tell me about Purpose Driven Cares.
Thank you so much for having me today.
Purpose Driven Cares, we're Detroit based.
We're our biggest thing, Purpose Driven Cares, is just supporting
the community, doing whatever we can to do for the community.
Last year was our kickoff last year.
We started off with just supporting veterans and just homeless as far
as like with food resources, homes, back to school programs as well.
So this year right now, November 7th, we're Saddling Up.
That's what we call it, our back-to-school Saddling Up.
Saddling Up. I like it.
So on November 7th, we're doing a back-to-school, I mean a coat drive.
Sure.
For our community on Joanne and Seven Mile, that's where I'm from.
Over there, it's a little more in-need community over there.
So we're just asking for help from the local community,
from the local businesses that's around.
We have a lot of businesses that have been pouring in.
We have a lot of sponsors that have been pouring in.
we're just coming out today to spread the word.
So how long has Purpose Driven Cares been in
existence? We've been around for about, I want to say five years.
And why did you feel like there
was a need for this? Did you see that there
was a need in the community that wasn't being met?
Yes, I grew up in the community. So I know the need.
I'm familiar with the need. I see the need
every day because I'm in the community every day.
We're in the community every day as a company,
as a business. Like I said,
we work with patients in the community every day. So we get the first
hand look at what's going on.
So we just try to just pick a situation and see how we can
rectify it in any way. So in choosing the Coat Drive,
is this something that's new for you to
do this year as opposed to last year?
Yes, it is something that's new for us to do this year.
I just thought about it. Like I said,
I've been in the community every day, so
i see a lot of kids who are less fortunate how can people donate
then to the coat drive or do
you have an organization that's donating the coats
to you already uh we have some organizations
that's trying to help us donate some coats
but if you are out there and you want to donate
you can just log
on to our website www.purposedrivencares.com and you can just go right
and are you um encouraging that they bring new coats
or can maybe slightly use because kids grow
up quickly yes we do understand kids grow up we're
not turning down any donations um so if they're used
coats bring them if they're new coats bring them
um we're not we're not turning our heads anywhere
and you have a monetary goal too yes tell me about
that um so it's 500 coats that's our goal our goal
is 500 coats pray we pray to god that we meet
the goal absolutely you know anything after that is a
blessing anything up to that is a blessing
but 500 500 coats is the goal and right now we have
a good deal with coats going on right now for like 20
so 20 dollar donation we'll put a coat on the kid back
so as people come to this location you they just have
a 20 dollar entry fee to come in is that
or is it free for okay because you said 20
and i was thinking it was free oh no no tell me now let's
clear it up the 20 with the 20 dollars it's something
that we just threw out there to um to help get
donations in okay um we found a couple companies
who are working with us as far as price wise
so twenty dollars a coat right now keeps it keeps
the kid warm right now all right so it's not that
you're charging anybody no no no we're not charging anybody to come out
and and get a coat and get a
coat it's all free and you're offering more things
i mean maybe horseback riding tell me about it's
going to be kind of a fun day yeah it's going
to be a fun day we try to make sure that it's just
not oh we're coming out get a coat go right right come out get
a coat have some food sit around
chill play with us um we have we're gonna have
music we're gonna have horseback riding we're
going to have um basketball games
um prizes giveaways we have things going on so we're just
inviting people to come out
and also um and we're inviting kid vendors out oh so if you're a kid
Yeah, I think that's pretty sweet.
So if you're a kid, you have a business.
If you're a parent, your kid has a business,
bring them out, come set up for a spot.
You don't have to pay for anything like that.
You just come on out, pick a spot at the park, set it up, and do you.
So you know this is going to be successful, right?
You're going to have to overdo it then for next year?
Are you already thinking ahead?
Right now, I don't want to think too ahead.
We just want to think right now about this.
So right now, my goal is $500,000.
All right, so tell me again where and when.
November 7th, Camaro Park.
It's over Joanne and Seven Mile area.
Okay.
And it's from 11 to 4.
All right.
We'll put a link on our website at fox2detroit.com.
And we hope to see you guys there.
Donate those coats.
Those kids are going to definitely need it.
$20 a coat.
All right.
But free if you're picking up a coat.
Okay.
We want to make sure we get that out of folks' heads.
We'll be right back.
Thank you so much.
Thank you.
Appreciate it.
