Good evening, I'm Dave Spencer.
This weekend, Michigan has become the center of the political
world, and today, Republican candidates under
the leadership of President Donald Trump converged
in Port Huron for a final rally before those midterms.
Today, President Trump making history
as the first sitting president to visit the lakeside city.
Hundreds of voters lining up
for a chance to hear the president.
They've been there since 11 this morning at the McMorrin
Place Arena. It was packed with Republican supporters
by the time President Trump
Trump took the stage just after 3 p.m.
So, ladies and gentlemen of Michigan,
the golden age of America is upon us.
But you must get out and vote and you have to vote Republican.
I would say everybody in this room is voting.
Anybody going to vote Democrat in this room?
Do we have any takers?
Don't raise your hand if you are.
It would be not a good.
But we've already made unbelievable progress
and now we'll reach new levels of greatness.
That's what we're doing, and that's what we'll continue to do.
We've never done anything like this happened
in the last even less than two years.
So it's my honor to be your president during such
an exciting time in the life of our country.
Trump's Michigan pick for U.S. Senate, Mike Rogers,
also taking the stage before the president.
Rogers using the time to tell people about
his about the man running against him.
Maybe you're not aware, but I'm running against the most radical,
most extreme DSA-affiliated candidate in the country right here.
The DSA says this is where they're going to plant their flag
and they're going to take it from here
and spread it around the rest of the country.
This, yeah, you bet.
This is why we got to send this guy packing.
President Trump also took time to support John James,
his pick to fill the seat
that Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer will vacate in January.
James saying Michigan is ready for change.
I got a little secret I'm going to tell you.
Here's the truth.
President Trump has only been back
in the White House for less than two years.
Jocelyn has been a part of the failures among Democrats
in Lansing that have been there for eight years straight.
Two of those full years under President Biden,
Democrats have the trifecta in Lansing.
They have the power.
They passed their agenda and they are suffering they authored.
It's time for a change.
Now, I've worked closely with President Trump.
That's just some of the many local
Republican figures who were in attendance.
Michigan Senators Matt Hall and Jim Runstead got to address the crowds,
as well as a U.S. Senator, Lisa McClain.
The event ended just a short while ago,
so a lot of movement still in that area.
Fox 2's Camille O'Meary live in downtown Port Huron.
Camille, you heard, what was it like there for the president?
Yeah, so we're right outside the arena.
There were a lot of people who couldn't get in because,
obviously, it was filled to capacity.
So there were people lining up the sidewalks.
There was a large screen so everybody could watch it.
We talked to some voters.
Really, everybody wanted to talk about Trump.
So many people buying merchandise, Make America Great Again.
I even had to correct one woman because she seemed to believe
that Trump was running in this election, and I had to correct her.
So we've talked to some people with some interesting takes on things.
But really, they didn't really want
to talk about Mike Rogers or John James that much.
They really wanted to talk about Trump.
But we did get some people to talk about a few other things.
Take a listen.
It's going to be John James, most likely.
Mike Rogers.
No, John James.
What are the issues that are most important to you right now?
Gas.
That's about it.
You know, I drive Detroit every day, so gas prices.
But besides that, I love Trump.
He's a great guy.
He just bought his hat.
got half off though oh it'll be mike rogers for me
um i like the way i i just like the way he talks
uh the other candidate america's born on christian values
of course that other candidate uh she's
talking about abdul el sayed
who uh obviously spoke yesterday at the democrat rally in detroit
there's also some confusion some people said
they wouldn't vote for him because he wasn't
american and he wasn't born here
but he actually was born in Rochester Hills, Michigan which makes
him just as American as you and I, Dave.
So we'll see what happens on November 3rd. We've got more
insight from voters coming up at 6:30 and then,
of course, at 10 as well. But for now,
we're live in Port Huron. I'll send it back to you.
Camille, how many people were at this watch
party? And did you notice any protesters there as well?
Yeah, I mean, there were some counter
protesters and they didn't want to speak to us.
But we decided, you know, in all fairness, we should
just talk to the Republican supporters today,
because yesterday when we were covering the
Democrat rally, we only covered and talked to Democrats.
So to be fair, but honestly,
we didn't really see any counter protesters last night.
I think I saw like two. Today,
there was many more just holding their signs up
and really wanting people to know that,
you know what, there are other other candidates.
But again, I can't stress enough that everyone
is talking about Trump. Everyone has the posters with Trump,
anti-Trump, the counter protesters.
Nobody was talking about Mike Rogers or John James.
And obviously, that's what the midterm
election is about. So it'll be interesting to see.
We talked to some people who said they don't plan
on voting, even though they do support Trump.
So we'll see. Definitely an interesting election
cycle, to say the least. Yeah, Camille, thank you for that.
I know President Trump did mention that
he wants people to act as if he were on the ballot.
So maybe that message was received.
We appreciate that. We'll check back with you later.
