Good morning, everyone.
First of all, I just want to take this opportunity to thank our city
manager, Karen Gentlemanville,
for being here this morning and for your continued support through
this weekend and always. It's been tremendous.
Thank you for being here. You know, as a dad,
this situation breaks my heart.
I grew up in this community and literally lived less than two miles
from where this incident occurred.
And these acts of violence just cannot continue in our
neighborhoods in our community.
So as we move forward this morning, I just want
you to know how committed we continue to be.
I am Chief Lawrence Rubble with the
Tallahassee Police Department.
I want to provide an update for the events that
occurred on October 24th
at approximately 8 p.m. 11 people were
injured by gunfire.
That's close to a dozen people, their families, and this
community that have been impacted
by the senseless act of violence. Our thoughts
remain with every victim, their loved ones,
as they continue to recover from this tragic event.
From the moment this incident occurred, our officers,
our detectives, they've worked tirelessly
to bring those responsible to justice.
Today, I can announce a significant development in this
investigation. On Sunday, October 25th,
detectives with the Tallahassee Police Department arrested
15-year-old Anthony Rivers III in connection
with Saturday night's shooting. In consultation
with State Attorney Jack Campbell,
Rivers is being charged with 11 counts of attempted second-degree
murder. Rivers was also charged with possession
of a firearm by a delinquent. This arrest is a
significant step forward, but our work is far from over.
Our investigation indicates that a physical
altercation occurred before the shots were fired,
and at this stage, detectives believe the incident
stemmed from a dispute between individuals that are known to each other.
Based on the information
developed so far, none of the injured victims appear
to have been involved as intended targets
or were intended targets.
This remains an active and open investigation. We're continuing to
determine the full circumstances surrounding the shooting
and the involvement of any additional
individuals. Additional arrests are possible.
We remain committed to sharing information with the
public while protecting integrity of this investigation.
I say it all the time. We have
the best people in the world working right here
at the Tallahassee Police Department.
And since Saturday night, that has never been more evident.
In the moments immediately following the
shooting, our officers rushed towards danger to render aid
and protect lives even before the scene
was fully secured. Those actions reflect the courage
and the commitment to service that define
this department, but the work extends well beyond
the officers responsible or responding to these
calls. Our detectives, our crime analysts,
our victim advocates, our civilian personnel, and many,
many others have worked around the clock,
each playing a vital role in this investigation. I
could not be prouder of the men and women of this department.
I also want to say thank the
Tallahassee community for the tremendous outpouring of support
and information since Saturday night
we've received an influx of tips
and the community's willingness to come forward has been
vital to our investigative efforts
but we are not finished if you have information no matter how
insignificant you may think that information
is we want to hear from you our dedicated tip line
remains active at 850-891-4610.
We also encourage anyone with video or digital evidence from the
area around that that might have captured
or that you might have seen to share it through our online
evidence submittal portal.
This arrest represents progress, but we will not stop working until we
fully established what happened, identified everyone involved,
and bring the people to justice.
12 people were injured Saturday night.
12 families had to face
and confront something no family should have to face.
We owe those victims, their families, and this community answers.
And while today's announcement represents significant progress,
our commitment to this investigation, to these victims,
and to the safety of this community remain unchanged.
