I was called to this house for no heat, and found no power to the package unit. It was shorting to ground. Found the short in an unexpected place. #hvac #hvaclife #hvacguy #makita #fieldpiece #trane

Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe technician inspects and repairs an 11-year-old HVAC system. After identifying a two-stage gas valve and a variable speed blower motor, the technician discovers a power issue causing the breaker to trip. By systematically testing the electrical leads and the disconnect box, the short is located and resolved, restoring power to the unit.
How many of these do you see that are still functional?
That's pretty nice.
Gas is on.
That's a 2010, so 11 years old.
If I'm not mistaken,
this is one of those
two-stage gas valves.
But we're about to find out.
That's really tight quarters.
So that is a two-stage gas valve.
I don't have
access to the
house just yet,
so I'm excited.
We got a variable speed blower motor.
No
power.
y'all see that
66 ohms that's
not enough to
make it beep
but that is
definitely
enough
to make it
triple
breaker
here we go
and start
running
or if it's
labeled
man look
at that wire
wrapped
around
the
other
two 23
mega
ohms
one
mega
ohm
670
kilo
ohms
for
here
and
see
see if
my 66
ohms
nothing
i still
got 65
ohms all
right
even
though
that was
showing
some
kilo ohms
to ground
there's
a good
chance
it will
run i'm
not gonna
wrap
that all
the way
around if i
ain't got
to no
crankcase
heater
sometimes these have a little piece
that's as big as a big pin
that sticks in the bottom of it
let me
see
all
right
both
both
poles
are
broken
so i'll
test i
got 26
ohms
to
ground
now
let's
see if i got 26
ohms to ground
nothing nothing
measuring
on the top nothing
just so close
nothing eight ohms five ohms
to ground all right yeah
that'll trip a breaker
if y'all couldn't see
what i was doing um i was testing
the raw power leads and um not
connected to anything they um
show
to
short
the
ground
my
problem
might
be in
here
i do
have a
junction
right
there
get
right
there hard to show what i'm
seeing pull this out and
uh this right here that's
a ground and there's
a
power
wire
hey
how
are
you
in
the
hot
position
let's
test
the
bottom
of
the
breaker
my
short
is
on
this
end
towards
the
air
conditioner
because
of
that
i'll be
honest
i'm not
seeing
anything
on
this
that
would
make it
short
the
ground
nothing
we need
a new
disconnect
one on
my van
that is
but
it's
coming
out
looks
like
that
just
sticks
through
the
wall
and
i
got
right
there
if
you've
wondered why i carried
a hook knife i carry
a hook knife it is just
for this reason
right here hook
knife
is made
for
skinning
wires
look at
these
that
wire
can
actually
slip
and get
here
on the
side you need to try to make sure that sets that screw goes right down
and pins the wire down on
the bottom go
in the breaker
that's in there
to put all that
back together
i am gonna
crack this
open and see if i can't see this
heat exchanger you know what
that may be a stainless heat
exchanger
we got 240
we can we can
now start
putting all
this back
together
and turn
our heat
a little bit tricky
took me a little while
to find the short i
nearly cussed out that
fellow on the riding lawn mower
but uh thanks for watching i'm on to the next
