Video Summary
AI GeneratedA technician services a frozen heat pump system at a commercial restaurant. After thawing the unit and diagnosing a refrigerant leak and a grease-clogged evaporator coil, the technician pumps down the system, addresses poor equipment design and drainage issues, and optimizes the blower motor speed and refrigerant charge to restore proper functionality.
we are at a commercial job
this is a restaurant and this system
was freezing up when i got here
if you see the emergency drain is dripping more than
the regular drain that air handler is a little
bit difficult to get to i'm going
to yeah this is a heat pump
so we're going to thaw it out real
quick i uh i turned it off as soon as i felt some
ice right here see if y'all can see it a little
bit of ice
right there you
see i'm gonna
be jumping
from i'm jumping
from yellow
to blue
this pressure switch is going to keep my condenser fan
from running that's hooked up the way it is
because it almost always runs it almost always runs
on cool in fact she says she never turns
it to
heat
because
i knew
it was
iced up
hooking
up my
gauges
instead
of my
little
probes
design
on these is just horrible trying to get down there to true suction
and i can barely reach it
i started on my business
they were still making
these cubes and uh they
had the option of the
rectangles i always asked for the rectangles
those old dream rectangles are easy to work on
i um i like them judging
by the sounds
the hissing can tell
that it's pretty low
on freon
i'll i also know from past experience with this unit
that the um evaporator coil is beginning to
get clogged with grease so if it's leaking it's time for a new coil
but first i gotta thaw it
out i made
a effort to
divert the water
that makes
this a swamp
and make it flow
to the sides here
looks like looks
like we got ss2
and a pan switch you can
see this is draining
but it ain't draining
i know there's lots
of noise i got this
thing up and running
i finally got it
thawed out close up cooling
a super heat and this
temperature is really close
to freezing so what we
have to navigate to get up here looks like i can take it
and that's got a light right there
getting
cold
up here
it's not
gonna
be easy
together
all
right
we got
the
cold
i got
somebody
who's coming to help me right now i'm trying
to pump this thing down i got to tell you just
getting this off of here i had to put a wrench on it the entire way
and i can only turn it about
that much every time now if you look down here i can't get
that in there but the way this is set
up i
can't
get
the
red
to
absolutely
horrible
design
i'm
back
in
there
yeah
i
might
have
to
bring
it over
there
pan
right
here's
why i
gotta
take off
and put
on the
other
one i
think
excuse
me i think this one's about eight
or nine years old all right now i gotta get this over to you
let
me
get
it i'm
gonna
try
to
bring
it
right
through
here
i
don't
mean
to
shine
this
in
your
eyes i know it's
bright i'm over there
to over here what's
the job i'm gonna
tell you if i
hadn't had jerry with me i'm not sure i would have
been able to do it that was a little rough
burn
this
place
down
a long
time i
used a
lighter
but
that's
putting
your
fingers
right
in the
flame
i
got
about
100
psi
on
it
i
think
we're
good
i
think
we're
good
you
see
that
369
microns
I
still
got a bunch of work to do in the attic
but at least all the hard work is done yes i'm gonna
clean this up a little bit more i ran out
of my straps i wanted to show you this drain would go
all the way over here to this and it had no fall to it
so i'm gonna put me a p-trap right here
and bring it up right here so it has just a little bit of fall
because right now it don't
because that um air handler and the pvc everything
up there is a little bit hard to get to
i decided to leave my p-trap out here all right i got
this thing down to 230 microns
i don't
think i
lost a lot
of gas
after
pumping it
down i see
that but i
am almost
flooding
back
two degrees sub cooling
three degrees superheat
but i'll show you this
system this system has
a sight glass and according to the sight glass
you shouldn't be seeing any bubbles in it so
right now i'm going to go check the filters
filters ain't terrible all right on that one
i ended up having to adjust the speed
on the blower motor i'm sorry i didn't get everything
on video actually this whole video i've got it
timed out i've got over two hours worth of video
so i'm gonna have to cut some things out
but i did get that charge just right i got it to drain
like it's supposed to so hopefully that one does
