AI GeneratedWith one week remaining until the 2026 midterm elections, millions of Americans and Georgians have already cast early ballots. The focus is heavily on Georgia's Senate and gubernatorial races, with candidates from both parties campaigning across the state and high-profile national figures scheduled to visit as voters decide the balance of power in Congress.
603 Now You Decide 2026.
We are exactly one week out from one of the most consequential
midterm elections with U.S. voters deciding
the delicate balance of power in Congress
and countless local races across the country.
So far, more than 27.4 million Americans have
already voted. Nearly 2 million of them are Georgians.
Locally, Fulton, DeKalb, Cobb and
Gwinnett counties have had the highest turnout
so far with over 263,000 early voters just in
Fulton County. Turnout drops a bit in Cherokee,
Forsyth, Clayton and Rockdale counties where a
total of more than 180,000 early voters have cast ballots.
And remember, Friday is the last day for
early voting. Two of the most closely watched
races have all four candidates crisscrossing
the state. Good Day's Alex Whitler
is at the Fox 5 Live desk with the latest from the Senate
and gubernatorial races.
Well, we'll start off with the Senate race. Right now, Democratic
incumbent John Ossoff leads Republican Mike Collins in the polls.
The senator joined gubernatorial
candidate Keisha Lance Bottoms at an event yesterday,
along with Democratic Governors
Association Chair Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear.
Now, they were in Atlanta for a canvas launch
with members of the Communications Workers for America Local 3204.
That labor union represents
workers across several industries, including telecommunications.
In his remarks, Senator
Ossoff addressed just how pivotal
a role Georgia plays in the political spotlight.
What we do for these next eight days will change the course
of Georgia's history, will change the course of American history.
Well, Bottoms echoed a similar message,
reiterating the importance of every single vote.
Thank you so much. And then, of course, my brother,
my friend, our Senator John Ossoff, 300,000 people.
Well, Bottoms and Ossoff's opponents,
businessman Rick Jackson and congressman Mike Collins,
respectively spoke with voters just outside the metro.
Jackson was with supporters last night
in Paulding County, where he had this to say.
My focus is on putting others first, and it has been my entire life,
especially the people who don't have somebody else to turn to.
Mike Collins, meanwhile, was in Jackson,
which many of you know is a city in Butts County.
He says he's seen a surge in momentum at the polls.
We've been out here across this state,
just crisscrossing the state for weeks now, putting
over 2,000 miles on a vehicle
and visiting with thousands of Georgians every week.
We've seen that momentum push now that early voting has started.
Today, President Trump will make stops
in Texas following last weekend's Perry, Georgia
rally with Collins and Jackson.
Then tomorrow, former President Barack Obama
and former Vice President Kamala Harris will
be here in Atlanta.
And you can depend on Fox 5 to bring you complete coverage.
Elise and Caitlin, out.
