To some breaking news now,
Sky Fox is over a scene where police are actively investigating.
This is a freight train burglary in Douglas Park.
This is happening near 18th and Western.
And you can see, look at the packages.
As we zoom in closely, they're just all over the tracks.
We know this is a thing that's been happening.
And in fact, the Cook County Sheriff's Department has
a unit actively working to stop this,
stop people from opening up those trains and stealing packages.
not too long ago they recovered cell phones
for example oddly enough I was just on a bus with them
last week where someone went into just like
this a freight train found aloe all these other
different you know consumer goods that we buy that we wear
and they traced it to a store we're
actually going to have that report hopefully for you later this evening
but this is a major issue
that has continued to be pretty pervasive in our area.
And I remember very starkly that video
of the people stealing the big screen TVs a couple
of years ago.
I mean, and there were dozens of people arriving.
Tia, I'm so anxious to see your story
because I want to know how these thieves are able
to infiltrate these supply chains and find out
which of those rail cars contain the goods
that they want.
Sometimes it's literally just luck of the draw.
um in some cases they have no idea what's going
to be inside um in this case it looks like maybe
they didn't find exactly what they wanted
because a lot of the packages completely tossed out um but
sometimes they do know and the question is how
um and so that's going to be the interesting peg of
our story hopefully we can get
that story uh flipped around today there's a lot of intricate
information and detail into it i can tell you
at least in our case two people were arrested
they were selling this stuff stolen stuff off
of a train like they were selling it at a store like
we're talking about opened up a whole store
with a majority of the store being stolen items from a
train so people are brazen they're bold
and I do want to give hats off to the Cook County Sheriff's
Department because again they have an active unit
that is on the ground trying to prevent this now
can they prevent it all around the clock
no but they have done a very good job of trying to go
after these folks and hopefully interrupt
that chain that you're talking about, which then
overall we'll see these crimes go down. So that's the hope here.
Yeah, because I'm sure it costs the consumer more in the end.
