Only on Fox, a mother wants answers after she says
her three-year-old daughter came
home from daycare with a missing front tooth.
Now the Texas Department of Family
and Protective Services is investigating an allegation of
abuse at Forest Crossing KinderCare, which is over in the Woodlands.
Fox 26's Jillian Hartman joining us live after speaking
with the mother, Jillian.
Yeah, so the mom says that her daughter left
for the daycare with all her teeth but came
home with one missing and a scrape on her chin.
However, the daycare has a different story. So
the mom shared these photos with us of her three-year-old daughter.
Aliyah White says on
October 14th, she helped her daughter brush her teeth before daycare
and noticed nothing wrong.
But when her daughter came home
from Forest Crossing KinderCare in the Woodlands,
White says her front tooth was missing.
Here's what she says her daughter told her.
She just flat out said my teacher broke my tooth
and she just kept saying my teacher broke my tooth and she was pointing
at it and she was like, my teacher threw my tooth in the trash.
I also noticed there was a mark on her chin as well.
Did you reach out to the daycare after you spoke with your daughter?
Yes, I went there the next morning.
They had no story.
They didn't know anything.
She didn't cry, claimed she didn't cry,
didn't notice any blood, nothing.
It doesn't make sense to me.
And I'd like to know what happened to my daughter
because she's traumatized.
She's now in a new daycare.
And when I told her she was going
to the new daycare, she's like, I'm scared.
Now, White says since she got no explanation from the daycare,
she reported her concerns to the Texas Department of Family
and Protective Services the next day.
The department confirms it received an allegation of abuse that day
and is investigating whether abuse or neglect occurred.
Its findings will be turned over to the Health and Human Services
Commission, which licenses and regulates daycares in Texas, Rashi.
Well, Jillian, did the mom take her daughter
to the dentist to get it all checked out?
So the paperwork describes that the tooth
as being completely knocked out of its socket.
So the mom actually handed over the dental records
that she received from the dentist.
So she said that the dentist notes say
the most likely cause was trauma.
The notes also say the dentist informed
the mom of possible damage to the adult tooth
that replaces the baby tooth.
Children typically start losing
their baby teeth around six years old, not three.
So White says she's now worried about
the long-term impact on her daughter.
The dentist said that it took trauma for it to come out
and that she definitely bled.
Of course, she would have cried.
You know, like I also noticed she has a little lisp now.
Like, it affects her eating, it affects how she speaks.
It could affect her long-term, and we won't know.
Now, we reached out to KinderCare.
A spokesperson sent us this statement saying, in part,
we carefully reviewed the claim
that a child lost a tooth while in our care,
even after the child said they lost their tooth at home.
Our internal review, including reviewing child
supervision records and interviewing staff,
found no evidence to support the claim
that the child lost their tooth at our center.
we have proactively shared the concern with state licensing authorities
and are partnering with them
on their review. However,
the mom disputes that and says that her daughter
did not lose her tooth at home,
and now she plans to file a police report. Back to you.
