All right, but first tonight,
Alex Preddy's parents made a rare public comment today after
nine months of grieving and frustration.
They're upset about 275 days of what they call
lingering false narratives about their son and a lack
of transparency from the federal government.
We have team coverage of their first time speaking
to local reporters. Emily Pofall
has more on the family's frustration over what they say
is a lack of transparency and
communication. First, though,
we go to Corin Hoggard live at the memorial to Alex Preddy.
And, Corin, that's a spot that means a lot to this family.
Yeah, Kelsey and Randy,
they tell me that they have been out here a couple of times.
And while it can be pretty emotional, it's also kind
of a bright spot in what's been a miserable year for their family
because this is showing them just how much Alex's life meant
to his friends, to his neighbors, and even to strangers.
Alex was our firstborn son, and he was exceptionally kind and caring.
He was an amazing kid.
He understood right from wrong and did not tolerate bullies.
He was intensely curious and always wanted to do the right thing.
For 37 years, Alex Preddy showed his parents who he was.
For about 12 of them, he focused his sense of justice
and respect on veterans,
serving them at the Minneapolis VA in research
and as a nurse his stethoscope rested near his
parents as they told the world stories they never wanted
to tell about a son who filled them with
pride we want the world to understand
who Alex really was we want our son's killers brought to
justice once and for all nine months ago they watched
on TV with the rest of the world and saw
immigration agents shoot
and kill Alex as he was face down on the ground and they've wrestled
with the emotion of visiting the place where he took his last breath.
We have been there a couple
of times. A collection of art
and mementos at the scene showed them what their son means to
Minnesotans. So did a veteran's gift of a burial flag.
But most of all, it's been the letters
lifting them up. They've read every word in more than 2,000 letters
and learned new reasons to be
proud of the man they raised. Nothing will bring Alex back.
But the outpouring, the cards,
the letters, the messages, the gifts we've received, they do help.
They show that there are good people in this world.
Michael and Susan Preddy live in Colorado,
so they don't get out here physically very often,
but they say virtually they get updates just about every day
from caretakers who post on social media
and also archive everything
that gets brought out here as a tribute to Alex.
Live in Minneapolis, Corin Hoggard, Fox 9.
All right. Thank you, Corin.
Fox 9 first reported on the stall
in information sharing two weeks ago between investigative agencies.
State investigators still don't have the gun used to shoot Alex Preddy,
among other key evidence.
Fox 9's Emily Pofall is live and at Hennepin County Court tonight.
Emily, it sounds like federal investigators aren't really communicating
with the state or Alex Preddy's family.
Yeah, in one of the most memorable moments
in the press conference today,
Alex Preddy's father says that the day
of the shooting they did not get any call or notification
from the federal government
and they haven't gotten any call from the feds in the nine months
since. One from the federal government called us on that horrible day
but they did go on TV to tell
lies about Alex.
No one from the federal government has called us since.
Alex Preddy's parents
repeatedly called out U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche
and U.S. Attorney for Minnesota Daniel
Rosen, accusing them of shielding
the federal agents who shot and killed
Preddy during Metro's surge.
But what we have been treated to is cruelty.
Cruelty from Dan Rosen in the U.S. Attorney's Office
who has stonewalled us for nine months, refusing to share a single
update of any kind. Federal authorities barred state investigators
from entering and gathering evidence
at the shooting scenes of Renee Good,
Alex Preddy, and Julio Sosa Solis. The state BCA
and Hennepin County sued, and after negotiations,
the feds agreed to share information. But in court
filings this month, state officials say the feds cut them off again,
still withholding key evidence
including the gun used to shoot Preddy,
the agent's cell phones, and their recorded statements.
The federal government is arguing its decision
to not disclose law enforcement information
is up to its discretion.
Preddy's family is calling on the DOJ to release the names of the
agents involved and all evidence related to Alex's case.
And today we are here begging for
the Department of Justice to do what is right to hold the men
who murdered our son accountable for
what they did. The U.S. Attorney's Office wouldn't answer
our questions tonight. A DOJ spokesperson
did send us a statement responding specifically
to the Preddy's family's concerns about communication
saying, in part, as is standard practice,
communications with family members, if any,
come at a later stage of a case, such as indictment,
initial appearance, plea, trial, or sentencing.
In Minneapolis, Emily Pofall, Fox 9.
All right, thanks, Emily, and that's the latest
on the investigation into Alex Preddy.
