Everyone chases making some big income online, I think you should start with the first $100! In this video, I walk step by step through print on demand with Printify.
We build a real product from scratch for my cold brew brand, Alto. I design a custom mug with AI, connect it to Etsy, set the price, and publish it live. Then we do the math on how many sales it takes to make your first $100 online. The answer is only seven customers. I also show the two paths I would use to find those first seven buyers. Grab your free Printify account at the link below and build along with me. Tell me in the comments what niche product you plan to make first!

------------------- Clips channel @jonlawclips
I do NOT sell any products of my own. Watch out for scams.
$10,000 a month is a nice target.
It's what everyone goes for. But let's just start with
$100. Just $100. No passive income. Just $100.
The first $100 that you make online from something
that you create. Believe it or not,
that is still a really difficult thing to do. And it's by and
far the most critical component of that, say,
ramp up to some aspirational number. If you can
sell $100 of something that you can create.
You can probably sell the next hundred, the next
thousand, the next million,
but you have to crack the economics of the first hundred dollars. So in
this video, we're looking at one
of the most popular side hustles out there to do just that.
We're going to go step by step through the product,
the listing, the process, and we'll see how many
sales it will take you to hit that first hundred.
That's going to be the video. We're going to start
out by level setting and then we're going to jump
into my computer for a walkthrough it's going to
be a fun one let's go also i've been saying
in recent videos i'm kind of sick right now so my
voice sounds off forgive me i am on the mend now
as far as the general landscape of side hustles i
think you really want something
that can scale without you doing something like ride sharing
or delivering food or picking up another job
or shift is still a really hard thing to do that's
a lot of time and a lot of effort.
And if you absolutely need the cash short term,
sure, great, go do that.
But there's other side hustles
where I never wanna use the term passive income.
Nothing about them is passive,
but the work is not distributed evenly.
And you can get vastly more than say one hour output
out of one hour of input or one hour of work over time
because you're setting up a system that can generate sales.
So the side hustle process we're walking through
in this video is print on demand.
that's a very simple sales cycle
to understand right let's say you go on etsy and you buy
something right well someone behind that who sold it
to you they probably were using a print on
demand supplier let's say Printify
and when you click order Printify not them printed it they
shipped it to you and then that seller made
the difference between what you paid and what it cost
to produce and that differs from the old kind
of e-commerce model where you have to purchase
all of the inventory up front in the store
so we're going to walk through that process of
setting up a product on Printify that you can
then sell on Etsy on eBay on Amazon on all kind of the
e-commerce distributors out there
and i've gone through the process in other videos i really want
to reinforce this point this is very important on how to approach it
when you have a target like
making your first hundred dollars online
the reason being just about everyone approaches it
in the wrong way they approach it
and like oh i want to create the next Nike i want to create this
like super general big kind of brand
that everyone's gonna buy something of and great if
you can do that but the probability of success there
is like 0.0001 right you're not setting
yourself up for success rather the way to do it
this is what i've gone through in much more detail
in other videos is to pick
a very very niche underserved community out there and then serve
them with very specific products
and then market to that extremely niche community and yeah you're
not going to make a million dollars
but the chance that you make ten dollars or a hundred dollars or
a thousand dollars or ten thousand dollars
is much much much much higher and then you just rinse and
repeat and you do that again and again and again
but we will link the other videos around here
somewhere in the description
so you can watch those for a full deep dive into that strategy
i don't want to just glaze over that because again
that is very important critical part of
the process but i do want to focus this video just on the walkthrough
and demos on my computer
so go watch those and now if you've never heard of Printify
which is how we're doing this this
is what the website looks like they have about 1300 products
so you customize them you design
the product so to speak and they're the ones
who actually make it and then ship it to your customer
they have print partners all over the US
and Europe so shipping is usually cheap and fast
and then like i said it plugs right into your Etsy
your Shopify your TikTok shop and a whole
bunch of other platforms out there
so now we're going to get into my computer if you want to
follow along and just build with me step by step
while we're doing it and you want to support the
channel this video is sponsored by Printify
and for that reason you can grab a free Printify
account at the link in the description
and i've been talking about these guys and using them
personally i think literally since i was 13 years old
so by the end of this video you can have your
first product set up too and thanks Printify
for writing those three accounts okay so here we are
inside the Printify dashboard this is a demo account
that i set up we can go ahead and just
jump straight into creating our first product.
Now what to create ties into what I recommend
around strategy, which is niched down into something
that you know well, that has a defined
audience you know how to sell into.
So what I'm going to use for the product I'm creating here is
the cold brew brand that we've been building
on this channel for several months. It looks like
this. It's cold brew concentrate that you can make eight cups
of cold brew out of. And we'll talk
more in a few minutes about how I would actually go ahead
and sell this product but first we're
inside of Printify I'm just going to click create product here
as mentioned there's something like
1300 products in the store so a lot to look through there
and let's click view catalog
get a look inside all of it here you can see all
the products that are available so if we wanted
to search for example t-shirt there's going
to be a lot of different t-shirts that's 23 pages
of t-shirts available let's say we wanted
to go something like posters as well similar deal you
have a lot of posters available
but let's jump back here what we want for our cold brew brand
is a mug basically something to drink cold brew out
of so here we can see some of the top
sellers there these are all a good price
and good quality as well so i think let's go ahead with
this ceramic mug that starts at five dollars
which will give us a lot of room for margin
and now here we can see the graphics that we'll want
to design for this but we're not going to do
that ourselves we're going to do it with AI
and what we want to do here is connect with someone
who loves cold brew very niche thing
but we're going to provide value to them by creating the
product specifically for that audience regardless
of how small it is so i'm going to give it this
minimalist line art illustration of a tall iced coffee glass
with ice cubes and a straw let's go
ahead and see what it can create here
and then we're going to build out the remainder of the
graphic you can use external tools to do this as well
but Printify has gotten a lot better with
their interior graphics lately as well i don't love
this i'm going to go ahead and regenerate
okay this i like a little bit cleaner so let's go ahead
and drop this onto the mug on one side i
kind of want it to be still minimalist
so we'll make this a little bit smaller and i'll drop it
like this onto one side of the mug
and then what i want to do on another side of the mug is add
text so let's do something just bold to the point like
this and then we'll delete the rest of this
and i'll go my blood type is cold brew
and we're going to arc this up okay so now we have our
little custom graphic it's like my blood type
is cold brew to connect with people who want
something to show how much in fact they love cold brew
for example people who buy our cold brew not
that i actually sell cold brew
so we have all of this i want to size that down a little bit more
center it in the mug here this looks good to me i'll go ahead
and click save now there's a lot
more there you can play around
with there's templates there's graphics there's a lot if you
want to explore but for now let's just get more onto
the distribution side of things and there's
a whole creative and design world there
that you can go very deep into so next we created the
product that was easy now we need to connect
our store i'm going to click connect and then connect
to etsy here now the two i'd recommend are etsy
or tiktok shop as for why i've made videos about
that prior that's a whole long story
and i can give you a bunch of numbers to back it up they
put a link somewhere around if you want to do a deep dive there.
But for now, just trust Etsy or
TikTok shop is going to be the way to go to start out
And so right here, I'm going to go ahead and
grant access to my Etsy accounts
And one of the great things about Printify is they have a direct
connection into Etsy, fully native.
So every time someone orders on Etsy, just like these other
platforms, they handle everything.
You don't have to touch anything manually to make the printing,
the shipping, manufacturing, et cetera, work
So now I'm going to go ahead and click edit price
on this something else that's really cool
that you can do is personalize content so if someone
wanted a mug that said their name blood type is cold brew
then you can do that by clicking on
personalization here we're not going to get too deep into that now
so you just click enable
personalization and then they could go through
a whole process that ties into Etsy that's a whole
another video for itself but it is pretty cool
if you want to take that approach for us let's just
go ahead and edit and add Alto is the name of the cold brew brands
and go Alto cold brew coffee mug
and we'll call it my blood type is cold brew.
So we have all our tags set up. We'll do standard
worldwide shipping, local delivery in two to five days.
That looks good. And the advantage of
niching down is that you have basically no competitors
or fewer competitors and you have
a more valuable product
because it connects stronger to a specific persona or ICP type of
person customer whatever you want to call it
so for example if we were selling a generic mug for
you can go buy a lot of mugs
and that's basically a commodity right you just want the cheapest mug
at that kind of quality level
but because we're selling something that maybe no one else sells
that's really targeted toward cold brew toward
cold brew lovers we might be able to sell this
let's say for $23 and if we sell it for $23 we're making $15 in profit
or a margin of 64 cents and
that's still a win-win for the customer for myself
and for the manufacturer so all that said let's go
ahead and publish and there we go it's published it
is live on Etsy we are literally done it was
that easy and you can do the same thing for TikTok shop
for Amazon for all your other platforms now
do keep in mind if you have not set up your Etsy
or TikTok shop stores to date that is a process
you have to set up the accounts you have to create the store
but that should be an exercise in
creativity should be fun but just keep in mind
that is a process that we're not showing on screen
here today so these are some of the graphics
that Printify created as well so you're going to want
to go ahead and save some of these you know illustrate what
the product looks like we have
product image one product two product three
and we can do a lot of fun things with that i can go
for example, and say, make some cool videos with this mug,
then I can upload those images as
references and I can go ahead
and get some actual videos like for social media made about them. And
that is how I want to bridge into the next subject,
which is how to get to that first $100. Now,
how many of these do we have to sell to hit $100?
Let's open up a calculator. We know we're selling
for $23 at a 64% margin, meaning we'll make $14.72.
So if we want to make $100, we'll divide
that by 14.72. We need to sell seven units.
If we sell seven units, we make over a hundred bucks,
which means we need to find seven customers,
not a million customers, not a hundred thousand
customers. We need to find our first seven customers.
And there's that adage out there
about, you know, a thousand true fans.
That's a really true, very powerful thing. And so this
gets us, when you think about it,
nearly 1% of the way there, 1% of the way to a business that
can be around for a very long time.
They can be very successful. So this matters a lot more than
it sounds like. Seven customers is a lot and we are going to find that.
And the beauty again of
a very niche product is that it gives us a few advantages.
Number one, if there's any niche
community that already exists for that group,
that's who we want to go through first, right?
If it's a Facebook group, if it's a Reddit community,
if it's just a private kind of like
website or discord, whatever it may be, go there,
strike a deal with that group or start messaging
in the group. And that's where you want to advertise your product.
That's option number one.
Option number two is create social media content that's super niche.
And it doesn't need to get
100,000 views or a million views to make a bunch of money, right?
This is why the TikTok shop and
Printify connection is so valuable.
You just need to find the hundred people because if those hundred
people love cold brew and you can reach them
with content that is specifically about cold brew,
even if those videos only get a hundred views,
the conversions on that are going to be
great. You might have five,
10 plus percent of people who see the thing, buy it because it's
so specific and so just purpose-made for them.
And we've gone deeper and out on other videos as well of,
okay, how about you go to the
community, right?
And then just strike a deal off the bat
of making units for that community.
There's a lot of ways to kind of hone in,
to optimize, so to speak, your approach within
those two general pathways.
But for now, I just want to illustrate what those two pathways are.
And that's how I personally would go get those first seven customers.
once you have the seven customers you're
in the arena you have a shot on goal now you make more
products you find the next seven you keep rinsing
and repeating what got you those seven
customers and over time you can have very legitimate business
and now i want to end this
video on our product that's come to life here you can see
my blood type cold brew in here as well
there has never been a better time to create products
to bring them to life just like this
then to go out there and hustle to get your first few sales
your first hundred bucks and then keep
going at it from there i'm going to end the video
on that note that is Printify and that is making
the first hundred dollars on demand okay
so there we go that's the whole process that i wanted to
impart the other part of that if you didn't watch
those videos of kind of the hundred dollar
strategy how to actually materially with a high probability of success
and get something out of
this go watch those it's super important
and reality check of course nothing is guaranteed
to work you can't approach it like that some designs
are going to flop some things are not
going to work and again i would never approach it
as like oh i'm trying to create the next
whatever big brands that you want
to emulate i'd say niche down provide value to a specific market
and then and while designs flop
and things don't work the downside and this is i think the beauty
of print on demand is effectively zero you can go
test something throw out 10 products on TikTok
shop that go through the you know the strategy
that we described you can make a hundred TikTok
videos about them maybe they don't work
but your net cost for figuring out that all of that doesn't
work is nearly zero it's very very low
so my challenge to you after watching this video is
go just try it out go make a product go follow
the hundred dollar strategy and make your first
hundred bucks that's my wish
to you i hope it works out i hope this video helped you
in that pursuit I appreciate you being here.
