The Carolina Hurricanes are back
at home after a Western Canadian stretch
and one in St. Louis that produced some very, very positive results.
The Hurricanes now head home to face the always dangerous
Boston Bruins, but with a big name coming back into the lineup,
the possibilities are now endless
for the Hurricanes to take a nice big win away from
the Bruins welcome to Hurricanes Digest I'm Jeff
Testanaro I invite you all to like share comment
and subscribe click that subscribe button I appreciate all
of you always have the push to
2600 is going awesome let's get that up
also we're over on the socials did you know that
i bet you didn't we're over on x
at canes digest click follow for more over there
i post a lot of stuff over there too
so head on in and let's talk about it over there as well
talking about the man who was back in practice yesterday
in regular form skating with martin
nook and jarvis taylor hall can make
a difference against boston tonight without being the guy who
has to be on the score sheet having taylor hall back is huge
because for this hurricanes lineup
The extra edge could be the pass
that puts somebody in position to finish.
Hall has four assists across his last seven meetings with the Bruins.
That is a small sample across multiple seasons,
so it doesn't really predict tonight, but
it gives us a reason to watch his playmaking alongside his scoring,
plus it's a revenge
game for him.
It's always nice when Taylor Hall plays the Bruins.
Hall has been activated from injured reserve after missing five games
with an upper body injury at Monday's practice, he said.
I think I'll be in tomorrow, barring anything unexpected.
So his return is expected with the final lineup still to confirm.
When I get that, I'll let you know.
This matchup in Raleigh with Boston visiting the Lenovo Center
is always a big one going all the way back
to the team's time in hartford before getting hurt
Hall had five points in the last five appearances
that's pretty darn good that includes the
Washington game where his night ended early uh he uh he
was his this was there was offense building
before the interruption um Hall did come back
on the ice for a power play but then
left immediately again after
that overall he has three goals two assists in eight games those
numbers give Carolina another productive forward
to bring back into a lineup that already has
several ways to threaten
and take you out completely here's what i'm watching can Hall
draw pressure move the puck
and find the teammate arriving into space sometimes that extra pass
is what turns an ordinary possession into a very dangerous chance uh
and his practice combination
gives us plenty to look at it's a pretty
interesting place to look um you know Hall
skated with Jarvis
and Martinuk on Monday uh practice lines can change but if that group
stays together which they usually
do Rod doesn't like to change a lot of things up
Boston has another combination to account
for behind Carolina's other attacking threats you
still have the Aho line with Carrier
and Svech you still have Stankoven's group adding Ehlers
in there now Hall could help another line sustain
a lot of pressure for Jarvis the opportunity is
finding space while Hall has the puck
if a defender steps towards Hall Jarvis can become
the next option you now have to account for Jarvis
and Hall at the same time which is pretty scary
can they make Boston adjust before the defense gets set
that connection is where things get
excited and then you add
in this man mr marty party martin brings another part of the equation
the work that keeps the shift alive the recovery along
the wall the support from a teammate under
pressure the battle that gives Carolina another
possession more rebounds more attack watch where
Jarvis goes after Hall gets control
because he will watch what Jarvis does then watch whether
Martinuk helps keep the puck
when the first chance disappears Marty's very good at that
this line is looking pretty pretty tough win it back make
the next pass find the open player
that's the potential that is the potential here
that we're looking at we still need to see the
chemistry in the game but this gives Carolina
something worth testing something worth you know
looking at there's another opportunity
on the power play Carolina is converting 25.5 point
percent eighth in the league that's already
a strong starting point the most used five-man unit
has scored seven goals together Hall's return
gives another you know gives the other coaching
staff another option to freak out
and try to contain him good luck with that he took part in
the second unit drills Monday
although that doesn't guarantee his exact assignment against
Boston think about what another pass option can
do you know help on the entry give pressure
give a pressure teammate an outlet change
the angles before the penalty kill can reset those
are small plays that can create the next shot
and Taylor Hall is very good at creating a second
chance um you know the possession the possessions you have
to kind of judge it does Carolina get
established move the puck and create a clean look
that tells us more than simply checking you know
whether Hall collects the puck or points,
Hall is very good at creating more than one chance.
If the next unit can sustain the threat,
Boston has more work to do.
You've got to make them work throughout the penalty.
The Carolina power play is very, very scary.
It puts teams on their toes
because at one point you have, say,
Ehlers, Aho, Svechnikov flying at you,
and then the second power play comes out as, you know,
let's say Jarvis, Kapanen, and Hall, or Martinuk, or whoever.
It must be really intimidating for other teams to look at
because they're a scary team.
Boston is a serious test, though.
This is a matchup between teams near the top
with both looking to keep their momentum going.
Carolina's workload card shows rested options in goal.
it doesn't confirm the starter
but fatigue shouldn't be a driving decision since they've had
a little home cooking maybe they went over to Bojangles
and got a biscuit that's what i would
do that's exactly what i would do um you know you got
to protect the structure the hurricanes have
allowed 6.2 higher danger shots per game seventh few
est seventh fewest in the league uh the structure
still matters hall's return adds to the attack
but carolina needs disciplined puck decisions
against boston a successful return means finding teammates
in dangerous spots extending offensive
drives and helping carolina spend more time making
boston think about it making them think long and
hard about what they're going to do when they're
on the ice that helps carolina spend more time
making boston defend
and exploiting their weaknesses hall doesn't have to carry the lineup
he has the opportunity to make the players around him more dangerous
because that's what Taylor Hall
does. Look at the great work he's done with Stan Coven
and Blake adding Hall to that line was um
it was a gift, it was a godsend, it
was just you know everything just came together we all know
how line two played them together
and i look forward to them coming back together very soon
um you know who wins tonight i'm gonna go Carolina i'm sure most
of you are gonna go
with Carolina too. Boston is close to the top of the Atlantic
but what are you gonna do um if Hall
returns and helps create those extra looks
that's just more great stuff for the Hurricanes as well
this is going to be a very very spirited contest it's gonna
be a very very tough contest Boston
is always a very physical team
and this is going to be one of the deciding factors i think for what
they do next uh for the Hurricanes little reminder we're over
on our socials we're over on X
at Canes Digest click uh follow for more over there
as well you'll be glad you did i promise
you to that so Boston in town tonight to face
the Hurricanes another uh legendary heritage type of
matchup um i always get excited for these because i hate Boston
um all the way back to the Whaler
days um Boston very very tough team this year it's going
to be very very exciting game it's going to
be back and forth but the Kings are going to walk through it
and get through it just fine i know
that especially with Taylor coming back Jankowski uh did practice
as well uh no timetable set for
his return but I expect that to be very very soon
um no word on Jordan Staal so Jordan should be
back pretty soon too if anything else comes down I'll
be the first to let you know until then
for Hurricanes Digest I'm Jeff Testinero
let's go Canes beat the Bruins baby
