a developing story. It's one that we've been tracking.
This is out in the Bronx. So we just
got this video right here.
Just stop it just for a second so I can set this up, Gab, if I can.
Okay, so this video, these are FDNY, the fire marshal.
They are responding here. It's a deadly
overnight fire in the Bronx.
It's left a boy dead and four members of his family fighting for their
lives. We're also looking outside of the structure here,
which is up on our live view five, so we
can see just sort of a wider shot of the building here.
Photographer Roy is out there this morning.
So this is the actual building where this happened.
And it happened in the Bronx. A boy between 12 and
16 died at Jacoby Hospital.
Another boy in that range is in grave condition. The new information
that we learned this morning is that this happened
on the 11th floor of the Patterson houses. As you
can see the boarded up window there
and investigators confirming to us this morning
that a lithium ion battery inside the apartment could
be responsible for this fire in fact they
are leaning very much that way
so let's go back to that video that we had at the very beginning
these this is the FDNY the fire marshal we
were actually there as they entered into the apartment
let's let's go back just a little bit if we can Gab
on the video we'll bring me down we'll bring
the audio up um kind of take people inside
this uh situation here as it was unfolding this literally
happened in the last five minutes that's why it's coming
into us um just a little bit raw so go ahead
yeah all right
so that there is as
far as our cameras
were allowed uh
firefighters
pulled
five people, including three boys
from a smoke-filled apartment. This is the 11th floor
of the Patterson houses.
The fire appears to have started in the kitchen. Again, investigators
finding that lithium-ion battery,
and we do believe that it is the culprit in this case.
A 15-year-old boy, two adults, a 37-year-old man,
and a 33-year-old woman in critical condition
this morning. We just got word
also that we think Mayor Mamdani will be here in just a little while,
And he is going to be speaking outside this apartment.
Obviously, this is a tragic situation.
New York City's lithium ion batteries actually
on pace to outpace last year's record of 282
battery fires so far this year compared
to 292 through all of last year.
So it looks like we're on pace to blow right by that number.
So we're going to keep track of what's happening there.
if Mr. Mamdani, the mayor, comes in a little bit before that,
we will let you know what's
happening. We did talk to some people out there.
We are going to let you hear from them in just a
little while. I actually just got a text
from the photographer there who was getting some of that
video. He says that off camera,
some residents were a little concerned about the response time.
So that is some of the rumbling that's happening out there.
Certainly a bigger situation.
