A new drug drop-off box was unveiled
at Smith College in Northampton today.
22 News reporter Gabriela Villas-Boas joins us live in studio
with how all community members can take advantage of this addition.
That's right. Smith College has installed a new drug drop-off box.
The box may be used not only by students,
but also by members of the community.
Local law enforcement joined faculty
and administrators at Smith College today
for the ribbon cutting of their new drug drop-off box.
The box may be used to dispose of any old or unused medication.
Many police stations have these boxes as well.
However, campus administration says this creates
an extra layer of security for the campus and the community,
where those who may not feel comfortable going to dispose
of their medication at a police station now have an alternative.
This creates a 24/7 access that is going to improve campus safety
and I think the safety of the community as well.
health officials tells us that having
a safe place where students can dispose of
their old medication at their convenience is invaluable. They say that
their main goal is harm reduction and this gets something that can be
extremely harmful out of harm's way.
The drug drop off box is now officially
open and can be located
at the Smith College Public Safety Office on West
Street. Working for you. I'm Gabriella Villas Boas 22 News
