It's Undenialable At This Point...| Carolina Hurricanes News and Update
Oct 29, 2026
Another big game, another big outcome,
another monster effort by the Carolina Hurricanes.
This pushes the Hurricanes to the best record
in the entire National Hockey League.
They took the Bruins down, they took a tough team down,
and they did it with the same philosophy
they always have.
Next man up.
But is there one player
who's been pulling the Hurricanes through this injury-rattled time?

reminder we're over on our socials on X
at Canes Digest click follow for more over there the
hurricanes keep on changing their lineup
because they have to but one thing has stayed consistent
when Pyotr Kochekov starts carolina wins eight
starts eight victories the latest the 2-1 win
last night over Boston and with Carolina working through injuries
and players returning at
different times that stability in goal has been a driving force.
Pyotr has stopped 14 of 15 shots
against the Bruins. Carolina limited his workload
but a quiet night could still come down to one
important save and he has some serious important saves
when Boston was crashing that net. When you
only score twice there's very little room for your goalie to work
and to give something back
there's very little room for error on your goaltender's part
but Pyotr rose to the occasion
again the victory puts him alongside Frederick Anderson
for the longest winning streak by a
hurricanes goalie to begin the season i hope freddie's watching
from over in edmonton that's
an impressive start under any circumstance doing it
while the lineup around him keeps adjusting
makes it especially valuable look through
the starts those are close wins games with plenty
of offensive support and the shutout
in St. Louis different challenges same results Carolina keeps
getting points when he gets
in that net Piotr's explanation well it was the only way Piotr
Checkov can put it my focus is more about
the quality of my game end quote thank you Piotr
that is exactly where you want his attention prepare
for the next shot make the next decision
and let the record flow and flow
and flow that approach gives Carolina something dependable
while other parts of the lineup remain completely
unsettled we don't know who's in and out well
yeah we don't know really who's in and out anymore
um i was not expecting Jankowski last night even
though apparently the lineup came out later
on with Hall leaving the ice i just hope everybody
comes back very very soon
and we need to keep the injury picture accurate stall sideline hall
another setback Jarvis is out there Jankowski came
back last night against Boston these absences have
changed throughout the stretch
but Carolina has repeatedly had to adjust to it missing stall
affects job jobs available down the middle missing
a hall removes another offensive weapon
those responsibilities still have to get covered
and the combinations handling them need to and
they need time to settle they can't just well you
apparently can't just plug and play because that's
why our system runs Hall was expected to return against Boston
then he left that morning skate
Rod Brind'Amour said he had tweaked something else
and expected him to be out for a little
thanks Rod another adjustment right before
a difficult opponent that's where the dependable
goaltender becomes so important a new combination can have
an imperfect shift without that shift
automatically deciding the game Piotr gives Carolina
a chance to survive in those moments
make the save get the whistle rest the group keep
the game close enough for the next good shift to
matter that buys the lineup time time
and time is exactly what they need he cannot take Stahl's
assignment or replace Hall's offense
but he can help keep those absences from becoming lost points
by his amazing goaltending play there there
is a comeback story too wrapped in all of this we love
comeback stories in Raleigh Peter appeared
in just nine regular season games last season now he has
already won eight starts this season after
his own you know interrupted year his availability is
making a huge difference i didn't see him coming back
this hot to be honest with you his save chart
right to the right of my head
which would be to the left of you watching um shows different
workloads across the victories he stopped all 24 in St Louis
then made 14 saves against Boston
save totals alone don't tell you how well someone's played
but these games show different
ways he's helped Carolina finish
with the win Peter said again i'm happy that i'm on this team
and I'm happy to be able to play.
After spending so much time unavailable,
getting back into the crease
clearly 100% means something to him
and it's just very nice to see.
Rod Brendamore highlighted the timing after St. Louis.
He had a couple of big saves when you need it.
Wonderful soundbites from our team.
That is the point though.
A save in a tight game can preserve the opportunity
for Carolina's next goal to change everything healthy available
and contributing every time
he gets the opportunity that is a valuable combination
on this team especially since
everybody's banged up St Louis required
a shutout performance Boston required protecting a narrow
lead now the job is to rest and prepare for the next start
which is coming up very very soon i
the payoff is in the standings
like i said before best record
in the NHL Carolina is collecting
points while working towards
a more complete lineup they're winning now i can't imagine what's
gonna look like when everybody's healthy uh Pieter
to start has helped make that possible the players
in front well they deserve credit too gotta give everybody
their flowers against Boston the penalty
killers helped protect the lead late Pieter supplied
the saves behind him that partnership
is how you close out games like this and Sebastian Aho supplied
the winning goal which was absolutely
pretty sure his back was the Swayman
when he fired that backhand shot in that was absolutely
outstanding um i lost my head
when that happened uh the finishers still have to finish Pieter's
contribution helps ensure that one big goal can
be enough Columbus is next on the schedule
Carolina's challenge is to keep that structure keep
that support whoever gets the next start
is going to have to really pull together
with so many days rest i'm gonna guess it's Pieter
Pieter has been a driving force
because he gives this group a dependable foundation he has had
help and Boston had a couple of fortunate escapes
that shot off the post really was something else
but his timely saves keep giving Carolina opportunities
to turn its work into victories
so has Pyotr become Carolina's most important player through
the stretch i think he's got a
strong case for it i think there's a strong case
to say that he's been um the most important player
down the stretch eight starts eight wins stability
when a lineup is needed is he your Hurricanes MVP
so far or does the team's defense structure deserve equal credit
um there's a strong case for
Pyotr to get his flowers
and i really think this guy deserves all the credit in the world yes
they're playing a they're playing
a group game they're playing a team game they always play a
game but Pyotr has been lights out reminder we're over
on the socials on X at Canes Digest head
over there and click follow for more today Columbus
is up next i'm not saying it's gonna be
a terribly hard game i do expect Pyotr to be back
in that with so many days off but we'll see
hopefully Hall will be back it's nice having Janko back
on the ice it's nice having Jarvis back on the
ice i really hope we see Taylor Hall
on that ice against Columbus if anything else comes down
i'll be the first to let you know until
then for Hurricanes Digest, I'm Jeff Testinaro, let's go Canes
