AI GeneratedThe narrator visits three distinct sandwich shops—For Heaven's Steaks, Jimmy's Deli, and Barmy Burger—to sample a variety of hearty options. From classic steak and roast beef to unique Banh Mi-burger hybrids, the review focuses on meat quality, bread texture, and overall value across these different culinary styles.
Wow, did you hear that crunch?
Now that is how you start a sandwich. Today I'm hitting up three
sandwich spots to see what they've got to offer.
We head off to For Heaven's Stakes, then Jimmy's
Dally before finishing up at Barney Burger.
Three spots, three very different sandwiches
and plenty to get stuck into.
Okay, I'm in Clayton at For Heaven Steaks, and look at this.
I've got myself a couple of big sandwiches.
I've got the classic steak there, and I've got the Italian.
Now, I think they're both kind of similar.
I think this one has a salami on it,
and this one's got some peppers on it.
But anyway, we'll find out as we eat.
One of them is $20, and the other one was $23.
I think you can double them up on the menu as well,
but they look pretty good.
And this is the Italian one.
Look at that, the steak comes out and it smells good,
it's got the egg there, it's got some cheese,
some salami, I think the salami is covered
by the cheese there, you probably can't see it,
and then some peppers, some lettuce,
nice fresh French style baguette. Yeah, let's get into it.
I like the egg with the steak,
it's a little bit like a breakfast sandwich,
but this is classic old school, old school sandwich.
I'm just gonna try that steak by itself.
It's cooked nicely and it's got a fair bit of flavour.
It's salted a fair bit actually.
It's very salty but these peppers
and the lettuce balance it out with the egg. Let's
see if there's
a salami piece there.
There is. I think
that's what makes it Italian so
I don't know if that's the whole
difference of it but it's quite nice.
The meat might be pork
and it feels more like a like a meat style than a steak
so what I'm going to do is just
to see what the difference is because
that meat is a little bit different.
And I can see on this one it's more like
that steak type of meat see how it's medium cooked.
So I think the meat is the difference between the Italian
and the normal one because that's more like
a bit more minced even though it's
not doesn't fall apart like a hamburger type it's a bit more
minced. All right let's try
this um the original
that also has a salami
so there you go.
The difference between the two is the meat,
that's like a pork mince, that's an actual steak,
and the steak is very juicy.
It's delicious, similar with the egg and the cheese,
the taste of it and the peppers, very similar,
just the only difference
is that meat.
And the bread, I don't know where they source their bread,
but it's awesome, it's like a French baguette,
nice, fresh, crispy, similar to what you would get
from a banh mi place, but like a nice fresh baked roll,
like very fresh,
not dry at all.
And the place here is quite cool.
It's nice, you can watch the game.
If you haven't tried, get down to Four Heavens Steak
in Clayton and order yourself a sandwich.
I'll probably get the double next time.
So yeah, off to the next place.
Jimmy's Deli in Dareville, and I've been meaning
to come back to this place for more than a year
because last time I came, I actually lost my footage
and lost my microphone, and I couldn't film it
and show it to you guys.
Anyway, I've got two massive sandwiches.
The first one, what I got was a premium roast beef,
Which looks like that.
Now that's $23 it's 200 grams premium roast beef with gravy
and cooked onion and probably some
gravy sauce yeah as you can see
so smells good it comes on that nice ciabatta style bread
and they cut it for you which is quite handy.
Now the juices are in the bottom so just be careful
you are going to get a little bit messy
when eating this and I think there's some cheese
Oh yeah, that's how I like it, nice and messy.
That gives me the Sunday roast feeling, that gravy and the meat.
It's quite delicious, very soft and
tender. It eats easily, it eats easily.
Oh yeah, with this bread,
this bread is so soft and easy to eat.
I thought it'd be a little bit harder actually,
the bread, but yeah, the only thing is you get the
juices on the bottom from the gravy.
Oh and those onions,
I'm making a mess, those onions are
delicious. So the flavour I'm getting is like
a Sunday roast, it's got sweetness from the onion.
And the gravy kind of covers it if it's a little bit savoury.
Quite a delicious sandwich and look, loaded with meat for $23.
Like, this is quality, quality style meat.
The other thing they do here is they have this famous half a kilo
Katz's Deli type of pastrami sandwich challenge,
which a lot of people have finished
and you get your photo put on the wall.
The thing with that is I actually went to Katz's Deli in New York.
Trying the pastrami by itself is fantastic.
Trying the bread and the pickles
with just enough pastrami is fantastic.
But what they do in Katz's, and I think they do it here,
is they overload it, which is what they're doing is right,
the right thing.
They're doing a tribute to it.
They overload it with pastrami.
So for me, the reason I didn't get that sandwich
is because it's just too much meat for me.
But if you want to give it a go, yeah,
get your picture on the wall, order the...
Katz's famous deli sandwiches, I think it's about $35 to $40.
Now, let's get on to the other sandwich I got here,
which is the meatball sub.
I love a good meatball.
And as you can see there, it's got nice big meatball pieces.
I would say one or two types of cheese, potentially Parmesan cheese,
because I can smell it, and it's a very strong smell.
And it's got that pepper, and I'm guessing some of that Italian sauce
to make it an Italian meatball.
I might just put this pepper on the side. I will have it.
Look at that, cheesy, meaty, full of flavour,
full of that whole Italian type of sauce and it smells
good and the bread is actually quite nice.
I thought it was brioche bread when I first saw it
but looking at it now it's quite crispy,
quite like a french baguette type
of roll. That meatball
is fresh, the sauce and the cheese
is like you're eating Italian spaghetti bowl and I'm gonna try
that another bite with the chilli.
Now this is pickled I guess,
20 bucks for this.
That's got spice, I would say six out of ten,
but it's not too bad, but it blends well with the
with the roll. I don't know what else I could say,
but it's quite nice, fresh meat, good sandwich,
20 bucks, come to Jimmy's Deli in Yarraville and give it a go.
I wanted to try a unique sandwich
and this came on my radar,
it's called Barmy Burger in Glenroy, I saw it on Instagram and
I ordered a couple of them.
So this is the pork karaage and it's pretty loaded.
And it comes on a nice fresh roll,
as you can see, and it's got the usual
banh mi ingredients.
I can smell it already, I can smell Chinese spice on this, which is
quite unique. It's got some sort of sauce there,
it's got lettuce, it's got the cucumbers,
the carrot, the usual. Yeah, bring it in mate.
And the other one that I've got is the burger
beef one, which is $17.50, so it should be like a beef patty.
Yeah, beef patty with
burger sauce what it looks like
and again banh mi ingredients and that one was $17.50
so there's two things to this place they do banh mi burgers
so the actual burger what it looks like
a burger with banh mi flavors
and then they do not to confuse you the rolls with burger
ingredients so that's what makes it a little bit unique
and um yeah as you can see it's
different than a traditional banh mi
however both smell good both look pretty good
Hear the crunch
on that bread?
Let's give this one a go.
It's a little bit sweet.
I think that's
like hoisin sauce.
I did ask for spice but I haven't felt too much spice.
The pork piece is
quite nice.
Look at that chunk of pork there as you can see and very tender.
Okay the other thing I
think I'm noticing is pork crackle.
The pork crackle you get in the bag at places at the
Vietnamese bakeries
and things like that.
Definitely tastes like a banh mi.
Mayo there as you can see.
Pork crackle, the usual ingredients there.
Potentially sweet chilli sauce here, from what I can see,
and then the normal hoisin sauce.
So, $15.50.
Not bad, not bad, but I'm interested to try the beef burger next.
All right, like I mentioned, I've got the other, the banh mi burger,
and this is what I got excited about,
because it's got a burger patty with the cheese on top.
Some type of sauce, normal banh mi ingredients,
but as you can see there, it's got an egg.
It's almost like a burger with the lot, and this one was $17.50.
Comes on that fresh, nice banh mi roll, and it's quite heavy, actually.
Look at that. You can see the ingredients inside as much as you can.
It's got a bit of pate from the looks of it on the bottom,
and that, I think it's mayonnaise,
but maybe Vietnamese-style mayonnaise, so let's give this a go.
All right,
let me take another bite
so I can have a piece
of the meat and the egg.
Oh yeah, I like this one.
It is different.
You can taste the beef straight away with the egg
and the ingredients from the,
well, the sauce is quite nice,
but the ingredients from the banh mi,
the banh mi ingredients blend very well.
It still feels like
a burger, even
though it is a banh mi.
Definitely delicious, delicious, unique thing to try.
So give it a go if you're in the area in Glenroy,
banh mi burger.
