Twelve years in prison, followed by preventive detention.
That is the sentence handed down to Frank S.
He is accused of drugging
and raping women over a period of several years and filming the acts.
Several of the victims appeared
as joint plaintiffs behind closed doors.
The organization Terre des Femmes is fighting
on their behalf before the criminal court in Berlin.
Many of the victims
in this case didn't even
know they had been raped.
The perpetrator had
spiked their drinks
with drugs.
The verdict took into account 22 rapes of 14 women.
After reviewing Frank S.'s video recordings,
the police believe he drugged and raped a total of 58 women.
This is another reason why the subsequent preventive detention
is so important for the victims.
What is very important for me
and for my client is the insurance acquisition that has been discussed.
Because the danger,
at least as we are standing here today, is very clear.
This series of rapes is considered
the largest case involving
so-called chemical subjugation
to date at the Berlin Regional Court.
German laws against sexual violence were tightened only recently,
for example regarding the
use of date rape drugs or the recording of the crimes on video.
