It was a deadly attack that had meticulous preparation,
according to France's anti-terrorism prosecutor's office.
A 39-year-old known as Kevin T is suspected
of driving through the Paris suburb of Trappes
last Friday and shooting at passers-by with a submachine gun.
Now authorities say he has acknowledged that it was racially motivated
and that he said he felt no remorse.
He admitted that he had specifically
targeted individuals, to quote him,
of Muslim, African or North African background
and that he had chosen the location for his actions
because, to quote him again,
Trapp is a hotbed for Islamists.
However, he disputed any terrorist intent,
viewing his actions as legitimate.
On Thursday, public prosecutor Olivia Christen outlined in detail
the suspect's level of preparation,
saying Kevin T had paid off his debts, closed his social media accounts
and hidden his phone and computer before the attack.
Inside his booby-trapped flat, authorities said they found weapons
including a magazine, two pairs of brass knuckles,
a steel bayonet and a silencer,
alongside three gas cylinders previously announced.
As well as several books, including a copy of the Koran,
the Bible and Mein Kampf,
Adolf Hitler's manifesto.
Kevin T also told authorities he
was not a member of any political party,
but they said they found stickers
in his home featuring the National Rally logo.
30 bore the phrase long live france rn proud
to be french 99 with the words 100% french long
live france and 98 inscribed with support
for law enforcement he indicated that he had personally
designed the stickers discovered at his home
and that he had ordered them to be manufactured via
amazon more than a year ago kristen said kevin t had
a history of psychological and psychiatric
problems and that initial blood tests had revealed
the presence of cannabis, cocaine
and antidepressants.
