Well, ahead of Friday night football this week,
local high school athletes are turning
in some standout performances across the DMV,
and we love being able to recognize them.
We do it this time of the week
and talk about the top athletes is the Washington Suns, Noah
Ferguson.
Man, another week has already flown by.
Noah, it's good to see you as always.
Who are we celebrating this week?
We'll start with football.
Yeah, that's right.
Playoffs are right around the corner,
so no better time to be covering high school football.
I'll start in Virginia with Christian Wyatt from South Lakes
at over 250 yards and five total touchdowns for South Lakes
and a big win over Madison last week.
The Concord District is one of the top districts in the area.
And week after week, there's a lot of big games.
And South Lakes won a big one against Madison
last week thanks to their senior quarterback.
In D.C., Darius Knight wins for the second time this season,
had four touchdowns at running back for Dunbar.
and Jackson Waddy from Gonzaga had an interception against Good Counsel
and over in Maryland uh Wilt
Cameron from Blake had a nice 30-yard touchdown
as they beat Paint Branch in a big rivalry win
and then Matthew Larson from Sherwood's leading
a team that's had a lot of injuries so far this year
to a win over Damascus so an impressive win on that front
so five impressive standouts this week
for football all right congratulations to all
of the football players let's switch gears now and go
from the field to the court and talk a little volleyball
who stood out yeah in volleyball have
to start over at Flint Hill where Hunter Ross needed just three kills
to become the all-time
leader in kills at Flint Hill
which is a dominant program year after year she needed three and she
got 27 against Colgan
so uh beat the record pretty good there last week Anna Georgevich from
Richard Montgomery is a libero
and has led Richard Montgomery to another strong regular season and
Then in Prince George's County,
Naya Tucker from Oxon Hill has also led Oxon Hill, which
is another premier program in PG to a strong season.
So those are our players of the week for volleyball.
All right.
We cannot forget about our soccer players out there.
It's a great time of year for soccer.
Who did you find as far as soccer standouts?
Yeah, that's right.
Playoffs are now underway in the area for soccer.
And Hunter Parler was a big standout from Walter Johnson this week.
He was struggling a little bit early in the season.
I talked to his coach, but he's really come on late in the year.
They had a nice conversation,
and he's really picked up his play going into the playoffs.
And staying in Montgomery County,
Freya Gold is only a sophomore from Seneca Valley,
but already has four hat tricks this year.
So very impressive.
She had her fourth against Rockville last week.
Jordan Randall is only a freshman from CH Flowers,
but had the game winner last week.
And in D.C., Pia Vasquez from Washington International
is a goal-scoring machine.
And Charlie Waller is the defending WCAC Player of the Year.
So, so much talent in this area.
And we're so looking forward to the playoffs
and continuing to cover them and to do it with you guys.
So, thanks again for having me.
And it's been a lot of fun featuring these standout athletes.
Listen, it's been a pleasure talking about them for sure.
And shout out to the sophomore and the freshman there
and the sophomore with four hat tricks already.
Noah, before we let you go,
I know you were also working on a feature that you guys did
on the female high school football coach here in the DMV.
already got a win under her belt. That's pretty exciting.
Yeah, that's right. Rachel Worsham
became the first woman to lead a boys varsity football program.
So I spent some time with them
a few weeks ago and we talked about the process
of her building up this program. Thomas Jefferson
is an elite magnet school that does a lot of academics.
So it's a very unique program and
she's a very unique head coach.
So got to spend some time with her and it was a lot of fun. So
yeah it was a great story that's great she played
with the DC Divas for a long time uh here in in DC
folks might remember her from uh
from there noah thanks very much i encourage people to go to the
Washington Sun for your i mean for all your coverage
but obviously celebrating our high
school athletes and coaches here across
the DMV thanks Noah see you next week see you next week
