Our top story this half hour,
new details tonight after a deadly string of shootings
in Northeast D.C. ending with police opening fire on a suspect.
One man is dead, another in the hospital.
Fox House Homa Bash, live in the newsroom tonight with the latest.
Homa.
Candidate police say the man who was shot by an officer is the one
who shot and killed another person just minutes before.
That suspect now facing a long list of charges,
including murder, and he is still in the hospital at this hour.
This happened around 5 this morning
on Minnesota Avenue in northeast D.C.
When police got on scene, they found a man near
a bus stop with a bullet wound and a gunman who had fled.
Then, moments later, about 19 minutes later,
actually, a call came in for someone firing a weapon.
In a parking lot nearby, when officers raced over
and got out of their vehicles,
they say the suspect shot his gun in the direction
of another person coming out of a store,
and that is when an officer fired
his patrol rifle, hitting the suspect.
About 20 minutes later, there was a call
that came out for an individual waving a firearm
in a parking lot in the 3900 block of Minnesota Avenue.
When officers arrived on the scene as they were exiting their vehicle,
they saw a suspect who was actually pointing and then fired a round
at another individual who was there.
One of our officers discharged his firearm, striking that suspect.
Police say they did recover the suspect's weapon from the scene,
the gun scene right here.
So again, this is now a homicide investigation.
Much of that area was shut down this morning from about 5 until 11.
No officers were injured and at this point,
no identities have been released.
It is still not clear what led to the original shooting
and if that victim and suspect even knew each other.
So still many questions as this investigation continues. Kenneth.
