Okay, so to make the northbound beanie,
we are going to be using Knit Picks Wool of the Andes.
And this is what it looks like when it's in its hank form.
You're going to need almost the whole ball.
You'll have a little tiny bit left over.
But we're going to use with that a 8
millimeter US 11 16 inch circular. So
this is a bulky weight yarn
and we're going to use some nice big needles to give
this slouchy beanie, its ability to slouch.
And then you'll just need a stitch marker to keep
track of your rounds, scissors, needles, all that good stuff.
I'll link to this stuff in the
description if you like the look of this yarn
I want to try these needles. These are my favorite
to use. But get the pattern down below in the description
and we'll get started. First hit
that save button so you can come back
to this pattern in case you can't make it today.
And hit the like, subscribe, notification bell
so that you never miss out when a new free pattern is released.
Now let's go make this beanie.
Okay, I'm going to be making the smallest size of this beanie.
There are three sizes, so be sure to check the description for the size
that you want to make and adjust your stitches accordingly.
But for the small size, we are going to cast on 54 stitches.
And I'm just going to do a long tail cast on.
That's what's on this one, so you can see how that looks.
It's got enough stretch and
You know, it works for me. It's easy to do.
Otherwise you can use whatever cast on you like.
But we're going to go ahead and cast on,
or I'm going to cast on, 54 stitches
and then I'll come back and we'll start round one.
Okay, I just finished my cast on. Now I
am ready to work in the round.
I'm going to grab a stitch marker and I'm going to
make sure that my stitches are not twisted before I start my round.
So I want to make sure that all of these guys are facing inwards,
so I know I have no twisted stitches,
and then I'm ready to go.
So for this round and the nine after, so rounds one through ten,
we're going to be making the brim,
and it's going to be a simple knit one,
purl two pattern repeat.
So for ten rounds we are going to knit one, purl two, piece there,
So first knit one, I'm going to pull that nice
and tight to bring it close so that I don't have a big gap.
And then purl two.
Knit one, purl two.
So you're just going to keep on doing that for 10 rounds
and then we will come back at the beginning
of round 11 to start the next section of the beanie.
So go ahead and keep on going
and I will see you on round 11.
Okay here I am on my last stitch of round 10. Now I'm
ready to start my next section which is this broken rib section.
So to begin round 11
We're going to do a three stitch repeat.
So we were doing knit, purl, purl, now we're going to do
knit, knit, purl. So just those three stitches around,
knit, knit, purl, and then we'll do kind of a special
stitch next. So keep on going with your knit, knit,
and purl, and then I'll show you row 12, or round 12.
Okay, I am at my very last knit, knit,
purl, and now we're ready for round 12,
which is super special. You are just gonna knit,
fooled you. So we're knitting all the way around, so for
Rounds 13 through 18, you're repeating these two rounds,
so 11 and 12 back and forth, so
knit, knit, purl, and then just knit.
So 13 through 18, repeat 11 and 12,
and then we'll come back for round 19, but I'll let
you go do this on your own, and I'll see you in a little bit.
Okay, here's the very last knit of round 18.
Now I'm ready for round 19.
So that is going to be this textured section right here.
So for round 19, we're again going to do a three stitch repeat.
It's going to be a knit one,
then with the yarn in front, we're going to slip one.
So that's all you're going to do. You're
not going to work anything. Put that back behind.
So keep it kind of loose.
Don't like tighten everything down after you do the slip. And then
another knit one. So again, we're going to knit one,
move the yarn to the front, grab it and slip
it, and then move the yarn back and then knit one.
So you're going to do that all the way around
and then we'll come back for round 20.
This one. Make sure you don't just go knit, slide, knit, slide.
It's knit, slide, knit, knit, slide, knit.
So say that as you go so you don't forget
to do that second knit before you slide.
So I'll see you right at the end of this round.
Okay here I am on my last slide
and my last knit and then for round 20 we
are just going to purl all the way around.
So we did those knits all the way around now we're going
to purl all the way around.
So we're gonna do these two rows back
and forth three more times after this till we get to round
26. So you'll do the knit, slide, knit,
or knit, slip, knit, and then purl
for a total of four times
and then we'll come back at the end of this because I'm not gonna
do this whole beanie all over.
I'm going to do just a little bit until we get to where the
crown is because if you'll notice we're kind of repeating what we did.
So we're doing the
textured, the broken rib, the textured, the broken rib again.
So a lot of just repeating
the stuff that you've already done.
So I'm going to come back at the end of doing this section
and we'll talk about the rest of the beanie.
Okay I'm back and I actually did a whole section
I'm gonna let's go backwards so that doesn't fall off.
I actually did a whole other section of my broken
rib so that way we could move on to the crown
but let me go over what you're going to do.
Very simply you're going to repeat
these two sections one more time so another
Eight rows and eight, not rows,
eight rounds and eight rounds, and then one more section
of the broken rib, so another eight rounds of that,
so we've got 24 more rounds of stuff
after, I'm losing all my stuff over here,
don't fall off, so 24 more rounds technically
after this first section, so I did, I'm going to pretend that this
Broken rib is this broken rib up here
so that way we can move on to the crown. So for
So for...
round numbers and all that good stuff look at the pattern
in the description and it will walk you through it.
But the crown is super
simple. We are basically going
to do two rounds of knitting two together.
So, we're going to decrease very quickly.
So, to knit two together, you take your two stitches,
come from the left, insert in, and knit off.
I like to give myself room.
I try not to pull too hard because doing it again on the next round,
it can get a little difficult to get into.
So, don't make them too tight.
So, I'm going to just do that all
the way around twice.
And then after that, we're going to cut our tail off and we're going
to run it through the remaining stitches and pull it closed.
So you'll see that we have just two rounds here,
our knit two togethers that are coming here.
And then we just closed off that hole,
and it's nice and tight, so it's not any problem.
Throw a pom-pom on there if you want,
or not, depending on how you like it.
And you can also, like, leave off, you know,
some of this to make it more of a fitted beanie,
so you can adjust it.
But this pattern is super simple.
It's very easy to practice all of your stitches.
If you're brand new to knitting,
doing those knits and purls over and over again
Again, with a little bit of.
You know, fancy with our little slip in the front,
but I would love to see what you make.
Some striped or self-striping yarn would be cool.
Tweed, variegated, this works really well with anything,
and because it's bulky, you're
going to finish it in a weekend.
So show me what you make.
My socials are down below,
so make sure you tag me and show me what you have made.
But until next time, I am Deja with Knit and Crochet Ever After,
