Waiting out the winds

What's this mean for fishing?
I don't know much.
You ask Captain Dillon.
All right.
Well, yeah, well, there he is.
As long as I'm asking.
No, but Captain Dillon, this has got
to be frustrating for you guys because you had the
small craft advisories for five days,
and then you think it's winding down and it's
going to be choppy again on Saturday and Sunday.
I mean ever since that hurricane kind of came close to us
and passed by it seems like the wind
has not shut off and Dave I have to say
these weather reports are starting to get a little
depressing for us offshore fishermen
because it's been a while since we've been out there deep and
been able to stretch our legs and and make those long runs
but fingers crossed we got a little
weather window coming up this week
so I'm trying to remain positive but the wait has been killing
me let me tell you that. Have you not been out?
Have you guys really not been out?
We've been getting out there here and there
but mostly near shore so with this east wind what
allows us to do is we're able to get out near shore
but the further west you go the more
exponentially rough it gets
so these east wind patterns at least we're able to get out there a
little bit but we're not able to get out very far from shore
which has been a little frustrating but
we again got a little weather window opening up
so we're looking forward to that.
Okay all right all right well let's get
to it what's what we do catching inshore?
Inshore, that's a positive thing.
Now, we have been enjoying some inshore fishing, Russell,
around these weather windows
and finding those wind-protected shorelines
and even fishing from shore and wade fishing.
You can find areas that the fishing is going really well.
Plus, we see a lot of these fish
really push back into the upper bay waters,
specifically snook, tarpon.
They really push back into those bayous,
those creeks, those rivers,
making them accessible even if it's really windy.
Plus, this time of year,
we start to see the sheep's head pick
up around the bridges, shorelines,
any of those sea walls, rock piles, so that makes
it really easily accessible even when it's windy out as well.
Plus the flounder fishing lately has been incredible around our area.
We're really seeing the flounder start to pick up
and take off much better than it has
been the last four or five years, which is exciting.
They are closed right now, but it is fun catching and releasing them.
We also have the trout action really going well
and should only get better as that water
temperature continues to cool down.
Redfish around the area too,
this is still kind of peak redfish time, a lot of concentrations
of those redfish.
Look for the birds, the bait, the oyster bars,
you'll be able to find some of those fun to
catch redfish and fun to chase around as well.
We are still seeing plenty of sharks inshore too,
and that's about it on the inshore side
of things, Russell.
Okay, let's do a nearshore and what, if you ever do get offshore again.
Yes, near shore and offshore. Right now, this weekend,
end of this weekend, start of this work week, looks like one
of those weather windows where we'll be able to get out there.
This time of year, the fishing is really good near shore and offshore.
It's all about trying to capitalize on those weather windows.
So being locals, being in town, you got to really watch the weather
and capitalize. Make hay while the sun is shining,
if you will, in between these little weather patterns.
Because those fish are just like you
and I. And when the weather gets nice, they get excited,
they get out there and they're going to be able to fish.
there and feed really heavily near shore right now
the mackerel run is really
really thick a lot of mackerel around
and we're starting to see some kingfish
trickle in more and more it's gonna get better
and better hogfish is picked up
we should be able to get plenty
of big fat red grouper once we're back offshore
the pelagic bites being good mangroves we see
a lot of mutton snapper and
yellowtails too so we're excited to get out there
and go catch him but don't
forget Russell what's that Dylan
If you're too busy to go fishing, you're just too darn busy.
So we look forward to capitalizing this week.
All right.
Hey, good to see you.
Take care.
We'll talk soon, okay?
