Our high five sports game of the week takes us to Troop County tonight.
It's a showdown between the Griffin Bears and the LaGrange Grangers.
Let's get out to Fox 5 Sports.
Lexi Bowden live with a look at the big matchup tonight.
Lexi.
Ready?
Yeah, took the drive down to
La Grange tonight for a heavyweight
clash between Griffin and La Grange,
and this one is basically a
de facto region championship.
Because if La Grange wins tonight,
they clinched their first
region title since 2006.
So we're going to have highlights
coming up later on high five.
It's going to be a good game here,
but first just want to talk a little
bit about what the school has to offer.
I'm here with 7th year athletic
director Kareem Donay and Kareem,
Just talk about, you know,
the energy around tonight and also
Look, a lot of tradition here at La Grange,
especially for La Grange Athletics.
You know, an opportunity to clinch
the first region title, like you said, in 20 years.
So, you know, the community is excited.
Our Granger Nation is excited.
The kids, it's been a great week of school.
And, you know, we're excited
for what we can put out there today, for sure, yeah.
And a lot of great energy, too.
I mean, we're two hours before kickoff,
and you can see some of the students starting to trickle in
in their Halloween costumes, as well as Halloween is tomorrow.
And I wanted to bring up the fine arts program
and what else there is outside of football as well.
I know you guys always put on a huge production
in the spring, but can you guys talk a little bit
about what the program has going on right now?
Yeah, so I'm Randy Kemper. I'm the theater teacher.
And one of the things that's really exciting about what we
do here at LaGrange is our kids are involved across the board.
As you see, we have band members and cheerleaders and football players,
all of whom are very involved in the fine arts. This is Brandy Turner,
our chorus teacher, and Jarrett Farrell, our band director.
And one of the things that makes this place
so special is we work together to schedule
and make sure that our kids can do as many things as possible,
whether it's sports or arts or Green Power or being involved
at the local theater, Lafayette Society for the Performing Arts.
There are so many things that we as a community have to offer,
and we just want to make sure that these kids have
as many opportunities to get involved as possible.
Yeah, well that is incredible
and I'm sure as we hear the Halloween music start behind
Behind us, they're going to want to see a win tonight,
but the Griffin Bears, a really tough matchup, they're going
to try to win tonight to keep their region title hopes alive.
Well, coming up later on in the 6 p.m. news,
we'll have interviews with both of the head coaches,
starting off with LaGrange head coach Matt Napier.
I'll have much more coming, but for now,
Lexi Bowden from LaGrange High School.
Looks like a lot of fun out there. Lexi, thanks.
All right.
