How Detroit figures into the Harry Houdini story

Have I ever mentioned that I used to want to be a magician? And every wannabe magician out there knows the name Harry Houdini. I mean, you probably know it. It's a household name by now. Even though he's been gone for a hundred years. But hey, have you heard about his Detroit connection? Check this out. He was just a master of publicity. I mean, he knew how to stage a publicity stunt. He had relationships with the local media. It's very interesting that he became a household name because he had a lot of contemporaries that were just as successful as him. He made escapology a big deal amongst magicians. He never really found success until he started doing escapes. On October 22nd, he was in Montreal. And he ran into a gentleman that wanted to meet him backstage. And he said, I heard that you have super strength for your body. I heard you can take blows to the stomach. Before he even you know got himself up and positioned himself, the guy hit him a few times. From that, he had pain. But long story short, take a train now from Montreal to Detroit. They had called for... a doctor and Houdini was just like, we're going on kind of thing. He did the one show on the 24th and then collapsed backstage at the Garrett Theatre in Detroit. They took him to the hospital and operated on him a couple times, but the poison in his system had gone too bad and he ended up passing away on... October 31st. Houdini was fascinated with the afterlife. After he lost his mom, he wanted to communicate with her. He had found people that were mediums and things that were doing this, but he found out it was just all smoke and mirrors. They were taking people's money and it was fraudulent. He made part of his show exposing mediums. Now, him being so obsessed with that, he told his wife, like on a dying bed over in Detroit at the Grace Hospital, If I can come back, here's the code word that I'll say and there'll be a pair of handcuffs that I'll be able to open. They've been hosting this seance yearly and this year is the 100-year anniversary. It being the 100th year, do you think that this could be the year that he finally makes contact?
