Hey guys, it's Alla here. Welcome to my channel.
Today I'm making a very traditional Latvian dessert.
It might sound crazy, it's a bread soup.
It's actually made out of rye bread.
And you can get it in organic shops
or anywhere where they might sell it.
Maybe Russian shops or Lithuanian and so on.
And I'll show you how we eat it there.
It's quite a cheap dessert, but it's very nice,
very filling and something different to try.
Okay, so the ingredients we're going to be needing are the following.
Now, I've got a different selection of dried fruits here.
You can use anything you like, but my suggestion would
be using about 30 grams of different type of berries or fruits.
So, I've got raisins, cranberry.
Before we, um...
Prunes and apricots and some walnuts here.
Then I've got 65 grams of sugar, sour cream,
cinnamon, now that's optional as well.
And here you can see rye bread, you see it's brown
and it's about 250 grams of that and 2 pints of water.
Okay, so first of all, we're going to put our water to boil,
and I'm going to toast the bread.
So we put that in the oven for 15 minutes
at 180 degrees, which is gas mark 4,
and then we take it out and put it into our soup.
So I took my bread out of the oven,
and I broke it into small pieces and placed it into our boiling water.
I'm going to leave it now for half an hour to boil, and once it's done,
I'm going to add my sugar and my fruit and cinnamon
and let it boil for another 5 minutes.
Okay, you can see the soup has been cooking for half an hour
and it has to be this kind of consistency.
Water is evaporated and the bread is inside.
Now we're just adding our sugar.
Mix that in.
And I'm just going to add all the fruits.
You can cut them into smaller pieces if you like. I like them big.
Okay, and now we're going to boil
this for another 10 minutes, 5 to 10 minutes.
Okay, my soup is done.
I'm going to decorate it in a glass how it's served in Latvia.
And then I'm going to put sour cream on top with cinnamon.
I'll show you now how I do it.
Okay, look how pretty it looks. Very colourful.
Now, it's not the most appetising dessert,
but trust me, it's one of these things.
That I used to eat a lot, and it's a very cheap dessert,
but you either love it or you hate it.
I love it, my sister hates it,
so really you just have to try it and you might fall in love with it.
And it's very healthy, it's got your vitamins,
it's got all the fruit, and it's got dry bread.
So yeah guys, I hope you try this, let me know if you have.
I'm looking forward to any comments
and pictures that you guys take for me.
It makes me really happy,
so subscribe to my channel and I'll see you soon. Bye!
DJ.
