Something else big that's happening is the fact
that we are just days away from election day.
Lots of big races that are top of mind for L.A. voters,
including, of course, the L.A. mayoral race.
So to talk more about that,
I want to bring in my colleague now, Nick Garcia.
And Nick, you are in downtown Los Angeles.
Tell us about what it's been like out there today.
Outside of City Hall. I've got to say, Coco,
there aren't as many people out here as you typically would expect
because it's a Saturday and also Halloween,
but that has not stopped the candidates for mayor.
Of course, current mayor Karen Bass and council member Nithya Raman
from staying out of the campaign trail, making those last minute pushes
and vying for the votes of so many undecided voters across the city.
We'll go to some video of Mayor Bass earlier today.
She was at a labor rally, really speaking to a group of union workers,
different unions, of course, represented there,
and touting that she is the labor candidate,
of course, making several jabs towards her opponent, Nithya Raman.
I've got to say that the latest polling from UC Berkeley
A dead heat. I mean, these two are tied 40% to 40%.
19% of voters still undecided here.
We'll go to some video now of Council Member Nithya Raman,
who was at a block party in Encino earlier today,
a Halloween block party, as you can tell from the footage.
She, along with Supervisor Lindsay Horvath,
who we know has endorsed Nithya Raman for mayor, I believe.
Mayor Bass also making a few jabs at the mayor
and pointing to how she says she would serve the community better,
the city better, I should say. Among those top issues, of course,
these came up for both Bass and Rahman today, but also in that polling.
homelessness affordability and cost of living public safety
and also LA's aging infrastructure
which of course we've seen in the headlines
and here on our airwaves over the past several months
we've had several sewer line excuse me water main breaks
and stuff like that so a lot of
A lot of people are concerned about
the condition of our roads here in the city.
Mayor Bass really making the push that in order
to address infrastructure, there need
to be jobs.
Good paying jobs. So leaning into that labor angle.
Councilmember Rahman pushing for a change, you know,
saying the past four years she claims Karen Bass has failed the city.
Certainly Nithya Rahman on the city council.
So it's a very difficult push because she was certainly part
of the city government as well for the past four years.
Both of them making their final pushes to voters.
One interesting thing, Coco, that I'll point out. The polling
At least Mayor Bass picking up a lot of likely voters,
at least in polling from September's poll,
which showed Rahman with a significant,
I think it was like 11 point lead, double digit lead.
The polling says that Mayor Bass has picked up a lot
of those more conservative Spencer Pratt voters,
people who went for Spencer Pratt in the primary,
many of those now leaning towards Mayor Bass.
But it's a toss up. I mean, we will see what happens on Tuesday.
It's definitely a toss-up,
and we will have to see what happens for sure.
That's a race that really is being watched across the country as well.
So, Nick Garcia, thank you
so much for that live report from downtown Los Angeles.
We appreciate you.
