Look at that. How do you think about all that stuff?
Yeah, I just live in the present.
Back to the NFL, where the Arizona Cardinals' safety
Buda Baker addressed trade rumors while in costume.
Arizona takes on the Dallas Cowboys tomorrow.
The trade deadline is November 10th.
And a quick clarification before we go.
The Congressional Cemetery's Dia de los Muertos runs
from 11 to 3 in the afternoon tomorrow.
I know they're really hoping for a lot of folks there.
We have more news for you online at Fox5DC.com,
and the news at 11 starts right now.
Right now on Fox 5 News at 11, a new lawsuit just days ahead
of a key deadline for President Trump's triumphal arch.
How D.C. and Virginia are teaming up now
to try to halt the massive project.
Plus, a team shot along with two others in Silver Spring.
What police are revealing tonight about the triple shooting,
Fox 5 News at 11 starts right now.
Off the top tonight on this Halloween,
one hour left of Halloween, you need some layers
if you still have late night plans to trick or treat,
maybe hit a bar, or if you plan
to get up early tomorrow morning,
you're taking a live look across our Fox 5 Skycam network.
Jen joins us now with the first check of your holiday forecast.
Pretty good weather for the kids to trick-or-treat tonight.
A little chilly, but certainly could be much worse.
Fantastic. Actually, really perfect out there today.
We didn't get any rainfall.
Temperatures are in the 50s and the 60s.
Now, as we look ahead for tomorrow, we'll start off with some clouds.
We'll get some sunshine out there.
The big kids are still out there partying right now.
There's our camera right now in Leonardtown.
That line is extending.
Apparently, everybody was watching on Fox 5.
They're like, wait a minute.
We need to go to the clubs in Leonardtown.
Yes, everybody's got their costumes on.
Well, for tonight, we've got big change on the way.
We had our last sunset tonight.
That's going to be in the 6 p.m. hour until 2027.
Tomorrow, we have a sunset at 5.07 p.m.
The clocks go back tonight at 2 a.m.
We're going to go back to 1 a.m.
So you get an extra hour of sleep.
Now out here, we look in Leonardtown, they're going to need
an extra hour of sleep the way these people are partying,
lining up to go hang out and have a good time with their friends
while the kids are in bed. Winds right now are very light.
We see tonight those overnight lows will fall into the 40s
for most areas. And as we look at the satellite radar, it's very quiet.
We just have lots of clouds around.
Northeasterly winds locked us in with a cloud cover.
And the high pressure ridge that we've been talking about
and keeping us nice and dry, it is still.
Still in control.
It's going to stay that way.
But as we look ahead for tomorrow, we start off with a cloud cover.
And then that sunshine will start to come back
as we go throughout your afternoon.
Still going to be a little cool outside
with those temperatures in the 60s.
But after yesterday, when we had those temperatures in the 70s,
everything feels a little bit cool outside.
So we'll look at our future, Cass.
Clouds around for tomorrow.
But we do have a chance for rainfall.
We'll talk more about that.
A warm-up and your Election Day forecast in just a few minutes, Sydney.
All right, developing right now, three people,
including a teen we know was shot overnight
during a gathering in Silver Spring.
Police, they are still trying to figure out now what exactly
led up to that shooting, and they're trying
to find whoever's responsible. As you can see here,
large tire marks, they've been left behind at the scene.
At a parking lot on Bournefield Way,
about two this morning, police say they found
those three people shot. We're told two of them
suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The third person is now in stable condition.
Still no word, though, on if any suspects have been caught.
I am a member of the National Capital Planning Commission,
which is the final step in the review process.
And the president has indicated that as soon
as the National Capital Planning Commission or NCPC votes,
that they're going to immediately begin excavation
and work on the arch.
But the district's complaint more broadly
is that the district is harmed in a number of ways.
I think most notably with regard to transportation impacts.
From my perspective, as a member of NCPC,
I'm supposed to make a decision without being
fully informed through the process which Congress set up,
which is called the Commemorative
Memorial Act.
It's a process that starts with congressional action
that is extensive in reviewing alternatives,
both in design as well as location.
None of that has happened.
And so I'm being forced to make an uninformed decision.
All right, as you heard there,
I spoke with D.C. Council Chairman Phil Mendelsohn earlier
tonight about a new legal fight
that's brewing over President Trump's proposed triumphal
arch. Mendelsohn is, of course, a member,
as you heard there, of the National Capital
Planning Commission, which is set to review final site
and building plans on Thursday.
Critics say the project could threaten historic landmarks
and disrupt the area. Now, several
lawsuits are trying to stop it before construction begins.
Our Regina Arita is live now in Southwest
with everything you need to know.
Well, President Donald Trump says
his proposed Triumphal Arch would serve both as a tourist
attraction and a military complex that would store drones
and ammunition. And of course,
that's adding to the controversy.
Now, the arch would be directly across from Arlington Cemetery
and located near a busy traffic circle
that is now in the center of multiple lawsuits.
But tonight, Virginia and D.C. filed
a joint federal lawsuit against the National Park Service
and the Department of Interior...
To block construction,
the lawsuit states the administration did not go through the
proper approval.
It also warns that two to three years
of construction could shut down parts of Memorial Circle,
reduce Memorial Bridge to just two westbound lanes,
and bring major construction traffic to the area.
In the past, the president has claimed it would mark
America's 250th anniversary to celebrate the nation's history
and create a new landmark in the capital.
Most recently, he has defended the project by saying
the structure could also support military operations.
But at the heart of this legal battle
is whether he needs congressional approval.
That he does need express approval from Congress
to be able to build this sort of monument,
especially at this sort of height.
He does need express approval from Congress.
This is not the ballroom, you know, where the construction is smaller.
It's attached to the White House.
This is a big, pun intended, deal.
This is an enormous arch.
It's 250 feet.
It will have major effects.
On the sight lines in D.C. and in Virginia.
And the recent filing also argues the arch would block a historic view
between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington House,
a view designed to symbolize the reunification of the North
and South after the Civil War.
It also comes just one day after
a federal judge questioned the administration's timeline,
raising concerns about why the project appears to be moving so quickly.
And it's not confirmed whether a federal judge will halt the project
before the Capital Planning Commission's vote,
which is scheduled on November 5th.
Back to you.
All right. Now to some other top stories we
are tracking for you tonight. One person has died.
Six people are injured after
a targeted shooting inside of a Spirit Halloween
in Northern California.
Officers say shots were fired inside of a store on Fairfield late last
night. That is less than 40 miles southwest of Sacramento.
Three victims we know are in
the hospital and remain in critical condition. Investigators say the
shooting was tied to an incident involving a suspect there.
And a deadly shooting inside
of a Waldorf bar remains under investigation now.
A private security guard shot and killed
a 41-year-old Pierre Strong inside of the cut bar and restaurant.
Detectives say Strong got into an argument
with another man and allegedly stabbed him.
That person is expected to survive.
Strong was pronounced dead, though, in the parking lot.
Investigators say they are planning to present the case to prosecutors.
A man is dead after he was shot inside of a home in Capitol Heights.
Prince George's County Police say it happened around 4.30 this morning.
Investigators, we know they are still working on determining a motive.
No suspect information has been released at this hour.
Senator Mark Warner, along with several
other Democrats in the Commonwealth,
rallied out today in Sterling at the Loudon Heritage Farm Museum.
The 71-year-old Democrat is seeking
his third Senate term now and said this week
it'll be his final campaign for Congress.
Warner faces a challenge from Republican political newcomer
and retired Army Major General Burt Misusawa.
Remember, gas in Virginia was $2.81 a gallon before the war started.
We have a majority, or we have some
of my Republican friends who will grow a backbone.
We can stop the war.
Early voting in the Commonwealth wrapped up today.
Election day, of course, is Tuesday.
And all eyes now are on the battleground states
so close to the midterms.
There's a bit of drama brewing
in Michigan where Democrat Abdul El-Sayed and former GOP
Congressman Mike Rogers are locked in a very tight Senate race.
Some Democrats are worried that a blow up between El-Sayed
and Congresswoman Haley Stevens,
a Democrat who lost to El-Sayed in the primary,
could actually risk their chance at the seat.
Donald Trump is not himself the disease
of our politics, he's the worst symptom of the
disease of our politics.
Yeah.
The disease is the system that allows corporations,
millionaires, special interests
to buy and sell politicians in ways
that leave them rigging the system against us.
And here's the thing, if you do one more call,
one more text before you go to bed, just make
sure you think about, okay, this is not for me anymore.
This is bigger than Christie and I, this is even bigger than Michigan.
And this is about the future of the country.
Remember, we're going to have election coverage
for you all throughout the day Tuesday,
but our special coverage that begins at 7 p.m. on Fox 5 and Fox Local.
We will walk you through everything you need to know.
Meanwhile, another legal battle over the future
of the Kennedy Center is also heating up in
federal court. Democratic Congresswoman Joyce Beattie has filed
a brief now opposing renewed
efforts to close the historic venue for two years.
She accuses officials of concealing key evidence
to mask financial mismanagement.
Beattie claims trustees were never shown assessments from their
own construction manager, showing closure was not necessary.
She is now asking a judge to
keep renovations blocked and bar any attempts to demolish the landmark.
Trump, they're taking questions
at a Halloween party at Mar-a-Lago tonight.
The president held a flurry of virtual rallies today,
campaigning for Republican candidates,
of course, again, just three days ahead of Election Day.
The president reversed a cancellation
and now plans to hold back-to-back campaign rallies
in Iowa and Kansas tomorrow.
He canceled those,
saying that he wanted to do tele-rallies, but is now going.
Coming up, still runners lace up early and some even in costumes,
how people gave back for a very good cause
in Prince George's County right when we come back.
And Pope Leo welcomes college players from America at the Vatican.
His remarks before that big doubleheader
in Rome right after this quick break.
I turned around.
Thank you so much to our viewers here on Fox 5
for joining after the game and to our viewers
on Fox Local for staying with us.
France, we know, has deployed 70,000 police officers
with a new wave of protests there.
Authorities now estimate more than 300,000 people hit the
streets for a third straight weekend.
Lots of groups taking a stand over the education
system there, along with inflation.
Similar clashes have been held in other European cities.
And police in London have arrested dozens
of people linked to a banned pro-Palestinian group
outside of the U.S. embassy there.
Last year, we know the U.K. banned Palestine Action Group.
The rallies come as the U.S. Supreme Court weighs a case
to overturn Palestine Action's designation as a terrorist group.
Growing up on the south side of Chicago, we oftentimes heard,
Go Irish!
But as you all know, Prevost graduated from Villanova.
So the Pope doesn't
take sides.
Prevost has another opinion, but we won't do that now.
The first American Pope greeting men's and women's players there.
From his alma mater, Villanova, and also from Notre Dame,
both teams are set to tip off near the Vatican this weekend.
The doubleheader takes place about a half-hour drive from the Vatican.
That is so neat.
All right, turning now to weather,
a live look from our Fox 5 Skycam at National Harbor.
Jen joins us now with the final forecast of Halloween.
We'll
Six minutes left of your holiday,
but I think some folks are going to stay out a bit later.
They're just thinking about leaving their house right now.
be
They just got their costumes on,
and they're like, okay, all the kids are in bed.
right
Well, the good news is, Sydney,
for those of you who are going to be going out tonight,
you get that extra hour.
You know we fall back at 2 a.m., and then we go back to 1 a.m.
But for tonight, we had our last 6 p.m. sunset.
back.
Tomorrow?
Get ready for this 5 0 7 p.m. So let's talk more about
the weather headlines for tonight. Yes,
we're going to be cloudy and we'll start off
the morning with the clouds, but then we're going to
get that sunshine outside and it's still going
to be one of those cooler days with highs in the
sixties. We look at rain chances coming back this week,
but not until the middle to the end of the
week where we see any rainfall.
So we will continue with this dry spell. Now, if you're
looking for a party right now,
why don't you head on over to Leonardtown? Because they have been
We've been lining up people in costumes and
And, of course, enjoying the good times tonight and the good weather.
We had clouds around, and luckily we weren't too cool.
We didn't have any rainfall.
It certainly was ideal for a Halloween.
As we look at our temperature right now, 56 degrees.
Our winds are light, and our dew points are in the 40s.
And tomorrow morning, yeah, there will be a chill in the air.
But as we go into this week, we've got a nice little warm-up,
and those 70s are coming back.
We just have to wait a couple more days.
Our temperature, 46 degrees in Gaithersburg, 47 degrees in Colorado.
Pepper, and you notice that we're a lot cooler than we
were this time yesterday when we had
that frontal system that came through.
Now, as we go through tomorrow, high pressure is in control
for us. High pressure ridge will continue to dominate us.
And yeah, we've had a couple fronts
come through, but with that ridge in place,
it just wasn't enough to break down and bring us
any rainfall. And it's getting a little dusty outside,
but I don't think anybody's upset that
we are in a nice little dry stretch.
For tomorrow morning, clouds to start, then that sunshine comes
Comes back tomorrow afternoon.
High of 65 degrees.
High pressure will continue to be dominating us
as we go through this week.
And as we jump ahead, November 3rd is Tuesday.
That's Election Day.
So we don't have any weather excuses
to keep us from going to the polls on Tuesday.
And then we look ahead as we go into Wednesday and Thursday.
That is when we start to see rain chances returning.
Late Wednesday into Thursday,
it will linger as we go into your Friday and Saturday
and even potentially even into Sunday.
So, again,
And, of course, we need to change things up.
We've enjoyed this nice spell.
Tonight, these are your lows,
39 degrees in Frederick, 46 degrees out of Dulles,
and then 51 for a low in Quantico.
And then for tomorrow afternoon, we're going to get up to 65 degrees.
It's very close to seasonable for this time of the year.
Clouds to start.
Sunshine comes back.
But if you were looking for something to do tomorrow,
it would be a good time to go check out the leaf peeping.
We're seeing a lot of areas right now with high color to the west,
especially right along I-81.
and Loudoun County.
Now, we talk about the weather pattern.
Now, we know that we've had warm temperatures,
and now we're in this cool side, but we will
see that ridging setting up, and with that,
temperatures will continue to climb, and then
we've got those rain chances that will return by the end of the week.
So for tomorrow, 65, and then we look ahead for Tuesday,
66, the 70s return as we roll
into your Tuesday and Wednesday,
and then Thursday and Friday, rain chances around,
and then cooling off for next Sunday,
but of course, with this nice weather.
We cannot complain about it.
We're just happy the kids had a nice Halloween, Sydney.
That we are.
And don't forget.
And don't forget.
Change.
Change the batteries in the smoke detector and sleep in a little later.
Yes, and we'll enjoy that.
Jen, thank you.
We're going to try.
All right.
Folks got a few extra steps this morning.
Shining a light on housing insecurity along the Anacostia River.
United Communities Against Poverty hosted its annual Walk
in Their Shoes 5K at Bladensburg Waterfront Park.
The proceeds there, they go to the local community,
specifically for folks experiencing homelessness and food insecurity.
We're leading some of the highest numbers in our county
for homelessness and people experiencing food instability.
Organizers say the 5K is rooted in the belief
that everyone deserves a pathway to stability.
Participants could also contribute to a community food drive on site.
All right, up next at 11, a local landmark celebrating spooky season,
the weekend event that's about more than just candy.
We'll be right back.
Movie fans and fitness freaks enjoyed a haunted light
and fog show in northwest D.C. today.
The famous steps featured in the horror flick
The Exorcist transformed tonight for one night only.
The stairway located on 36th
and Prospect Street just blocks away from Georgetown.
And our newest Fox 5 photojournalist,
Jade, walked all the way up those steps.
Good for her.
All right, some people really enjoy Halloween.
Check out this haunted house in Bethesda.
Folks on Lincoln Street got to enjoy all
the sights and sounds this weekend.
We're told the homeowners there, they love to share spooky season
with the neighbors and all of the trick-or-treaters.
Coming up, a Maryland student earns a top prize
by sticking around for the final moments,
what he's saying about the Terps' latest showdown
right after this quick break.
The Golden State Valkyries won their first championship
in their second season tonight in the Bay Area.
Golden State defeating Maryland's own Angel Reese
in the Atlanta Dream in Game 7.
Final score 68-63.
Kayla Charles, a Prince George's County native with Golden State,
helped her team secure that title.
I started working a second job
and I had to take out a lot of student loans to pay for it,
but I'm very glad I won and it helped a lot.
This is such a great story.
A Maryland senior won free tuition for a semester tonight
by sticking around for the whole game between Illinois.
The Terps falling in the final moments there in College Park.
Final score 20-17.
The Terps hit the road against Purdue next weekend.
Coming up, Halloween all across the globe.
We're going to take you overseas to one event with some furry friends.
Stay with us.
Just cause I'm leaving, it don't mean it.
I won't be right by you.
About things we could do together,
and we've been saying, and this is why we think we're
doing as well as we are in Detroit right now,
because we're here because we care about education.
We care about literacy, we care about putting shop back in schools
and getting kids connected
to the skilled trades.
So we're talking about those things that we know matter.
We're trying to stay away from all of the.
Vicious fighting that happens in an election year.
And by the way, both parties are guilty
of this. This isn't one party or another.
What we're saying is, could we tamp that down a little
bit? Could we get to a place where we have a better Detroit,
a better Michigan, and a better
future for our kids? I think yes,
and those are the kind of conversations we've had.
We'll go last two questions, Sam, and then did you have a follow up?
Yeah. Okay, we'll go Sam and then- And I would love to hear the
reverend's thoughts on this as well.
I mean, this US Senate race has brought up
Hard conversations about complicated relationships
between Southeast Michigan's black community
and Arab American community.
Do you feel those groups walk away more divided after
this US Senate race?
Well, I mean, I'll be honest with you.
My hope is that regardless of what happens
on this other side of this election, that
Abdul has a opportunity.
He has the opportunity to show leadership
to help bring this community together between
Deer Park and Detroit.
