World News Report Today: We are currently experiencing substantial **solar activity** resulting in increased **geomagnetic activity**. This has led to some breathtaking displays of the **aurora**, visible in many locations. The recent surge in activity is related to **space weather** events potentially influencing the **magnetic field** and is unrelated to the **solarwinds** **cyber attack**.

James Kaufman, World News Report today.
Ladies and gentlemen, we finally got hit by those solar winds.
It was, well, last night, central time here in the U.S.,
and we've been being hit now for over 24 hours.
We're going to go to our KP indexes,
which kind of give us a combination of the solar winds
and plasma in the planet
at any given three-hour period.
Each bar represents a three-hour period.
We're going to go to our estimated planetary KP index,
the updated index used by NASA and NOAA,
and we see that onset of a geomagnetic disturbance late yesterday.
And by late yesterday, it's going
to be from about 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. yesterday afternoon, essentially.
Now, after that, we had quite a few hours here,
18 hours of a geomagnetic disturbance.
Plus, of course, the three hours we had prior to that.
Now, if we take a look at the college index,
it picked up a geomagnetic storm during at least 12 hours of today.
But we don't see that.
We just see a disturbance on the estimated planetary index.
I do know that solar winds reached just above 900 kilometers
per second, which is a very, very good solar wind, a strong solar wind.
Now, in the last few hours, we've had three hours
of a geomagnetic storm, and this is going to be a G1 geomagnetic storm,
a very strong G1 geomagnetic storm, slipped back into disturbance,
and we've just been printed, the 10 o'clock print that came out
was a G1 geomagnetic storm again, and that does match really well up to
The six hours of G1 geomagnetic struggle we see
on the Boulder KP index.
So we have been in the geomagnetic storm
for the last three hours and for at least six hours in the
last 24 hours. Taking a look at ACE,
we're still having that plasma situation that occurred during
the geomagnetic disturbance here.
The very high plasma markings almost up or up to around
100 centimeters cubed
and it occurred again this time about an hour earlier than it has been
occurring but it's been short-lived.
It didn't last the six hours that it's actually been lasting.
We can see that the temperature jumps up
to reflect the plasma jump here. Now we're looking
You can hear that SolarWinds after they've gone up.
I'm going to pull something up.
It gives you a little bit more information.
We've got a couple of readings above 900 kilometers per second
and one or two just below 1,000 kilometers per second.
All right, this is how it plays out.
You can see on the 11th, we had our plasma situation.
We had it again, even with the onset of solar winds here.
It went from below 400 kilometers per second.
Up to over 900 kilometers per second.
Another spike just recently here,
along with the plasma and temperature spike.
And we saw a temperature spike here with our plasma and the stragglers.
The highest wind speeds occurred
while that plasma was hitting us.
This event does not look like all the other events.
All the other events have been longer.
It might show back up, this is where we are currently,
but right now it looks like it
only lasted about two hours, when it has been lasting quite some time.
You can see the temperature here also raising up.
We jump back at plasma here,
see plasma going up over a hundred kilometers per second, at
least twice here, and we'll see temperatures,
see them rising for those moments as well.
So now temperatures are elevated all together
with the solar winds plus the plasma events.
So we're not quite sure what those are at this point. I'm not.
All right this is a seven day look at our Discovery satellite
and you can see these
crazy lines that occur during
these time periods we're having our plasma events.
Now, all these events, we had plasma reach about 100 centimeters cubed,
but during this last event
that was very short in life, we didn't see that happen.
So there was something with these heavy
solar winds that batted that plasma down.
We're still having some sort of an event.
You can see these strange lines here versus a regular plasma.
Line up, if you will, strange lines here and here.
Those are going to be right there at the beginning of the day
and lasting for about six to eight hours.
Here, it looks like we are not seeing the same thing happen
for the first day, but we are seeing the solar winds.
Now, here, solar winds are only about 750 kilometers per second.
Whereas we had a reading of 914
and some higher readings.
All right it's just a short view of what we were looking at.
See that we have those solar winds pop up right below 100 kilometers
per second during that last
three hour period where we did end up having a geomagnetic g1 storm.
This is the cause right here.
And we have seen no plasma whatsoever.
Plasma is running at 2 and 3 centimeters cubed.
So the solar winds have taken out the plasma event,
whatever it might be.
I still have no explanation whatsoever for that event.
And checking out the Space Weather Prediction Center,
we spent over a million dollars upgrading this thing for NOAA,
and today was the 12th it had plasma.
Well about four times higher than it was up here.
Starting the day to run 10 centimeters cubed and
they run eight.
It was up between two and three
and we had solar winds which is pretty scary.
And then jumping over here to our solar winds we see
that they started the day off.
About 300, 325, or in fact,
they started off at about 475, and they have them bumping
up to about 350, or in fact,
they went over 900 kilometers per second.
They have that forecast nowhere in the future either.
So I don't know where these people are or what's going on with NOAA,
NASA, and the ESA.
But they're completely useless.
All these predictions are useless.
And everything but the data itself is useless.
If you want to clear some government jobs,
I would start at NOAA and NASA.
God bless, folks.
