Welcome back.
Loathing of Donald Trump's...
Trump's a massive increase in local property taxes.
That could well prove the postscript of this 2026 local election
in which every single candidate with a D next to their name
is expected by the numbers crunchers to win handily.
Panel, that includes all judicial races
and even the contest for county treasurer
where the completely dysfunctional Carla Wyatt,
subject of three criminal arrests,
is expected to slide through.
In other words,
A rising blue tide raises all boats.
Is that an accurate statement, Tamar Bell?
Yes, that is an accurate, unfortunate statement
because I am not supporting, you don't even want to see my ballot.
A lot of Democratic candidates, I don't go by.
Whether you have a D or R, whether you're serving the people
or serving yourself or making stupid-ass mistakes.
So therefore, I am not going to be surprised
Come Tuesday night, all of the Harris County Democratic candidates win.
Bill, is this a great argument
for taking judges out of the electoral process?
I think we're only like six
or seven states now still elect judges in partisan elections.
That's how bad of an idea it is.
And when you talk to judges, they hate it.
They'll tell you, we don't like this because at a minimum,
it gives the appearance of impropriety.
They've got to go out and raise money to raise their races.
But here's the thing I want to say.
If I had to guess right now, I would guess that Carla Wyatt
and Beau French are both going to be elected in this election.
And that tells you how bad the two-party system is.
Yeah, I mean, imagine if you put Chris Tritico and Lana, your wife.
And Bill King on a committee to go see which young attorneys,
older attorneys have the disposition to be judges.
Y'all could probably pick out some pretty,
come to terms on something like that.
Yeah, I would be in favor of doing that,
although I wouldn't want to work that hard.
It's going to be hard.
I have never been in favor of the partisan election of judges.
I am not in favor of the gubernatorial appointment solely of judges.
If we'd had that, Greg Abbott would
have appointed every judge in Texas.
And so I wouldn't be in favor of that.
But I am in favor of a system where we have nonpartisan election
of judges in their own election.
And people always say, well, only people voting on them are lawyers.
Fine with me.
At least we know who they are.
That's why
That's a better system.
Bob, you know, I'm just gobsmacked that.
Harris County residents accept
a 41% three-year increase in property taxes,
and they're not even cognizant they're going to vote Democrat anyway.
Well, this is a clear example of voters just aren't paying attention
to what's going on in their own backyard.
Thank you.
This is going to be a horrible night
for affordability of housing in Harris County.
It's going to be a horrible night for public safety.
When you look at all these judicial candidates
that are going to just sweep in
because they've got a D next to their name,
not because they're good judges,
and it's just not going to be a good thing
for Harris County in the future,
and it's why people continue to flee this county
and move out into the rural districts.
All right, Charles, jump in here.
I mean, I think Bob's right.
I think it's not going to be a good day for Harris County.
I think it hasn't been for a number of years,
and there were some kind of ebbs and flows in,
you know, 18 and I think 20 or 22 and 24,
where we had some wins at the courthouse.
But generally speaking,
I think it's going to be a tough one for Republicans.
And I think the biggest hope is that we can stave off some
of the losses in the House districts
that we know are kind of closer split than some of the others.
And I think we might be able to,
but in terms of the county races, I just...
I don't know which of any of them are going
to be able to kind of break through from the
Republican side, break through that Democratic hold.
And even in the Collar Wyatt race, I just,
Mark Cowart, he's a great candidate, he's run a
great campaign, even had a press conference with her victims.
And I don't know that that's going to be enough
to break through to voters because people
are just so tuned in on voting on who their party is.
We're going to come back to this.
We're going to come back to this.
You know, it's an important topic.
Up next, who's handing over immigrants by the thousands.
To ICE. Here's a clue. It's certainly
not the Houston Police Department.
