Family disputes motive in fatal Buford Highway shooting

Tonight, we hear from the family of the victim in a deadly shooting on Buford Highway. It happened near a restaurant where the victim, Pablo Gutierrez Gallegos, worked. Fox 5's Tara Jabbour is at the live desk. Tara, what did the family say? Well, Christopher, I spoke to two of his children, and they told me they are, of course, devastated, especially because Pablo has a four-year-old daughter. Dylan Lopez and Brenda Balderas are still trying to process losing their stepdad, Pablo Gutierrez Gallegos. According to police, Daniel Roman Cortez shot and killed Gallegos while he was at his job on Buford Highway. He was very hardworking. He would work at least like seven days a week. He wasn't that really that type of guy to Get into arguments or start drama or anything like that. He was always pretty quiet. According to police, the suspect told police he shot Gallegos because he was having an affair with his wife. His kids say that is not true. His wife was working with my stepdad. Thank you so much for being here today, and thank you so much for being here today. Basically, the only thing he would really send her or talk to her about would be the schedule or things about work. Gallegos leaves behind a wife and a four-year-old daughter. She's holding on as hard as she can. We're doing a prayer for him the next seven days, and she's definitely seeing how it's affecting us and how it's affecting my sister, so she's trying to hold on. It hurts because, you know, like... You know, it's the father of my four-year-old little sister and now that she got to wake up and and not, you know, be able to see her dad. The family says they can't believe their dad is gone. They say the suspect will never feel the pain that they feel. He took away someone that we can't bring back. Like, he took my mom's husband. He took the provider like that now falls on us, you know, to be there for my mom at such a young age. It's like very difficult. And the suspect, Daniel Roman Cortez, is facing several charges, including murder and aggravated assault. If you'd like to support the family, we have information on our website, fox5atlanta.com.
