This Report Reveals Padres MASTER Plan...
Nov 2, 2026
The Padres deadline talks are heating up
as this article reveals the Padres master plans
and possible targets they're looking at. Who are they?
Are they any good? Should we be excited?
Or are we like, hey, these suck.
Why are you bringing it up? Let's talk about it.
Hi, welcome back to another episode of Padres Digest
with your host, Andrew. Today we have
some trade stuff. Like I said, trade deadline is on Monday.
I'm going to be pushing out as
much content as humanly possible.
And there is a stream on Monday where we're going to be,
be looking at trade stuff all day
so that'll hopefully be fun or miserable i don't know we'll
find out uh before we get too deep into the video please subscribe
as always follow us on x instagram
facebook padres digest and of course have
a good day i didn't have anything else to add so i hope
you have a good day okay let's just jump
into this so i was going to do a different video but
then i saw kevin ac dropped
an article padres have some money some relievers and some prospects to
So basically, he goes over the Padres.
projected plan obviously he's not in the front office
so he doesn't know everything
but he's a Padres reporter so he probably knows better than most of us
so let's just jump directly into it
Obviously, I'm not going to read the article one for one.
I had my best friend, Claude, and I went through it,
and we made these for you.
So, what's changed?
Miller trade chance, off the table.
Per Kevin Acey, seemingly entirely extinguished
as San Diego sits one game out of a wildcard spot.
Morajon, though, is still murky.
Free agent after the season,
expected to command closer caliber money,
would net less than Miller,
but top relievers are at a premium right now.
We just saw Camilo Duval got traded to the Pirates,
so that'll be interesting.
Trading him would leave a severe hole
in a Preller-built bullpen.
Absolutely it would.
But if the return is good enough
that we won't miss him,
because Jason Adam will come back.
We do have a lot of lefties,
and I know people don't trust
Yukimatsu Iwani Peralta that much, but...
I'll keep saying it.
They're solid relievers.
They're not more a horn, more a home level, but they're still good.
You know what I mean?
But how'd they pay for it?
Farm system has no ludicrous caliber headliner to lead a deal.
This time, Ethan Salas is not untouchable,
but he's not expected to be moved.
Likely means dealing from the MLB roster strength.
Probably one of four lefty relievers could echo last July's deal,
which is six draft
picks the Baltimore for Ramon Laureano and Ryan O'Hearn.
Stamens take.
Manager says the current 26-man group is who we need to win it all.
I don't know if that's true or not, but Preller made five trades
and added six players at last year's
deadline without adding any payroll.
No blockbuster expected.
This looks like a roster-plugging deadline, not a shakeup,
which honestly I'm okay with.
I don't really want to sell our farm anymore for big rentals,
and I've been saying it for weeks now
that if we're going to trade people,
I want people with talent and control.
And there'll be some names that are listed.
Some of them I don't agree with, but, you know, Kevin Acey said so.
We'll report on them.
I can speak.
The real needs, a mid-rotation starter
and a left-handed bat per Kevin Acey.
Payroll room does exist, but that leeway is said not to be great.
So.
Take with that, as you will.
So here are the rotation targets that Kevin Acey listed.
I've talked about a few of these before.
Reid Detmers, Jose Soriano, I've talked about a lot recently.
But they're both people who will have control through 2026,
or sorry, 2028, but they'll probably cost a lot.
Jose Soriano got scratched from his start today
in preparation for the deadline,
so maybe that means something to you.
But yeah, cheap remaining salary plus control through 2028.
Competition is fierce per Acey.
403 on ERA undersells solid stuff on a rebuilding adjacent Angel staff.
Long control window means top
of the line prospect ask for a red Detmers.
Soriano, same Angel sweepstakes as Detmers,
rock bottom salary and long control.
329 ERA is the best mark of any name on this board.
Padres would be bidding against the entire league here.
So I previously thought they wouldn't be super expensive, but.
Like I've said before, the problem with starters
is that they're always going to have ludicrous
contracts, ludicrous trades.
So they're probably going to be a little too expensive for us now.
So that sucks because I really did want Reed Detmers, but that's OK.
Next, though, we talked about before,
but Casey Mize, been a while since I talked about
him, but he's a 270 ERA and he's getting paid one point six million.
And yeah, he's probably going to be, they say premium.
I don't know if he's as premium, but I think he is pretty expensive.
He is only a rental, of course.
He'll be a free agent next year.
But Scooball's rotation running mate,
270 points, the real stuff.
Just 1.6, like we said.
Detroit will likely extract a big prospect price
regardless for Casey Mize.
So they definitely want to get back to contention
and they definitely want to get some good players out of it.
So it makes sense.
I just don't know if I really want...
Like, I like Casey Mize, but honestly,
I think I would rather sign him as a free agent
than go for him now.
But even then, free agency is a risk
because he'll be 30 years old when we are able to see him.
I don't know. We'll have to see, right?
Nick Lodolo is an interesting name.
He's having a very down year at 460 ERA,
but the stuff hasn't disappeared.
He owns the Padres historically with a 201 ERA and four career starts.
One more year of control after 2026, a real buy low swing.
So right now he sucks, but he has been very, very good,
very solid, I guess is the way to say it.
And he does have some control.
So he won't probably cost as much as the other three.
But I don't think he'll be cheap, because I don't think
the Reds want to sell him too badly.
But, I mean, we talked about
Hunter Green maybe being available, but
I think the Reds probably won't
sell him, but they might, might
sell Nick Lodolo. So, we'll see.
I don't hate the move, but we'll see if it's
possible.
Now, finally, Robbie Ray,
a lot of Giants and rival talk because they're pretty bad
and we want a lot of like the rivals players.
So like Robbie Ray or Rise, Jake McCarthy, Mickey Moniak.
So the Giants and the Rockies really have players
that could benefit from leaving and
coming to us.
But he is owed $7.4 million,
but a 308 ERA still rolling in his 33, age 33 season with
San Francisco.
Giants reportedly willing to eat a portion to boost interest.
Cost moderate.
I think Robbie Ray is good,
but I also don't think the underlying numbers are really great for him.
But you can't really argue with the results.
And I feel like the Giants would probably give us the rival tax
and make us pay more than it would probably
be worth paying to get Robbie Ray.
So I get the idea. I just don't think he's amazing. Worth it.
But maybe I'm wrong.
You guys can give me your opinions on that.
Next, we have some batters.
Not as many, so don't worry too much.
This is going to be an 80-minute video.
Luis Arise.
You know who Luis Arise is.
MLB batting average, leader, elite bat-to-ball skill.
He's only a second baseman.
San Diego has plenty there.
But, you know, we would make room for Luis Arise.
Awkward roster fit is the real obstacle, not the talent.
It would be awkward.
It's possible, but it would be awkward.
We'd have to figure out what to do with Jake Cronenworth.
But.
You know, he's a rental. We know what he does. We know what he can do.
You know, he was not great last year,
but he's turned it around this year.
If it's cheap, I wouldn't mind it,
but I don't think it's going to be cheap.
And I don't think the Giants want to give him to us.
But we'll see. I don't know.
Jaron Duran I've talked about before,
and people kind of gave me crap for it.
I think if we're ever going to get Jaron Duran,
buying low now would be the best time to do it.
But Preller has been borderline obsessed
with him for years, per Kevin Nacy.
Red Sox finally seem serious about making him available.
Down year at 589 OPS is a real red flag right now.
So his stats look pretty poor.
We've talked about it before.
He's like a 215 average.
I think he has like 15 home runs, something like that.
So he's not playing great this year,
but he does have good defense.
He does have really good speed.
So I think it's worth the risk
because you know how good he can be.
Again, as long as he's not too expensive.
The Red Sox ask for too much.
No.
And then finally, J.J. Bledet,
who I did not know was on anyone's radar,
but 813 OPS with 19 home runs would genuinely make the Padres better.
Six for 23 with two doubles and two home runs against San Diego
these past two seasons, and he's controlled through 2028,
so the likely return is premium, or the return likely runs premium.
So he would definitely cost a lot.
He's cheap, and he would have plenty of control.
So it'd be cool,
but I don't know how much the Reds would be willing to...
Ask for that we could really take on.
You know what I mean?
I think it costs probably a little too much.
Also in the mix though,
Mickey Moniak we talked about before,
but the Padres are very much alive on him,
but they're far from the only team pestering Colorado,
but he'll have some control and some money owed,
but he's also a big name.
We talked about a lot before.
So cool.
These are the names I talked about,
but how is the Padres urgency going into the trade deadline?
So why the urgency is lower than you think.
Since June 30th there has been 5.11 runs per
game which is seventh
the MLB 788 OPS ranks fourth full season uh runs per game is 22nd
OPS 25th so our offense has been getting a lot better
but it's still not great overall but
We're trending upwards, let's put it that way.
The returning arms.
Jeremiah Estrada is already back off the injured list.
Musgrove and Pavetta are both expected to be back
to the rotation this month.
And Jason Adam is expected by season's end
completing the high leverage foursome,
which is a weird way to say it, but it makes sense.
Stamets' philosophy, though.
He says that, like we said,
we have everyone we already need to win.
And the front office genuinely believes
internal options are closer to true
than the season stats suggest.
The case for patience.
The hot stretch since June 30th came without making a single trade.
Internal turnaround already looks like a real upgrade on paper.
This reads like a roster plugging deadline, not a must add at any cost.
One, the approach.
The Padres have leaned on two starters plus an 11-man bullpen recently,
refreshing arms and keeping pitchers in favorable matchups.
So basically what it seems like to...
recap it is this shouldn't be a big deadline like we're used
to it should be a small deadline
if we're gonna make a big splash it sounds like it's with people
who have control like a bladay
or a detmers or maybe even the ran again uh
but we shouldn't expect any huge splashes so i
100% never thought this was going to happen,
but this definitely means no Tariq Skubal,
probably no Kevin Gausman.
I do like that,
because I don't want us to sell the farm for a rental.
I want control and talent.
And I might make another video
with a bunch of other players I've talked about,
but we have a good list of players
that I think could work well for the Padres.
If they were to make these moves, but even then,
if we were to stand pat, I don't think it's the
end of the world. We just got to hope that the people
who come back from injury are still good.
AKA Nick Pivetta and Joe Musgrove and hopefully Jason Adams.
So, and Miguel Andujar, who's also
got to come back at some point. David Morgan's got
to come back at some point. So basically
we have a lot of injuries and a lot of talent on the injury list.
So, I still think we need starters,
but it's not the end of the world if we don't get anybody.
That's kind of the vibe I'm getting right now.
But what do you guys think?
Let me know.
Do you guys think we should still sell,
or do you think buying is a bad idea?
Do you think we should sell to buy,
so sell more at home to get good players, or do you
think we should stand pat?
You let me know.
Again, stream on Monday, so join me
and we'll talk about a bunch of stuff and look at trades
and all that, but yeah.
