Video Summary
AI GeneratedBryce Turang has emerged as a powerhouse for the 2026 World Series champion Milwaukee Brewers. Once viewed primarily as a defensive specialist, Turang's offensive explosion has earned him a spot as a National League MVP finalist alongside Shohei Ohtani and Pete Crow-Armstrong, while he also secured his second career Gold Glove.
Bryce Terang just proved everyone wrong in a huge way,
and those are the people that
thought he was a defensive-only second baseman,
because after being announced as a finalist
for National League MVP,
really speaks to how much of an offensive explosion he had
in this 2026 season.
Let's break all of that down on today's episode of Brewers Digest.
I'm your host, Taylor Brettel, and I got you covered
on everything you need to know about
Bryce Terang and your 2026 World Series champion Milwaukee Brewers.
Still a sweet sentence multiple days later.
Adar Breistering was just announced...
as a finalist for the National League MVP
alongside Cubs outfielder Pete Crow Armstrong
and Dodgers designated hitter slash pitcher
for the first half of the season, Shohei Ohtani.
Really huge company when you think
of those two names for Bryce Terang to be a part of.
So we're going to take a look at what got Terang in that spot.
First, we'll show the graphic
that Major League Baseball put out there showing the finalist
for the National League MVP.
You have Pete Crow Armstrong, who should win it.
Then you have Shohei Ohtani and Bryce Terang there.
Could Terrain get as high as second?
I'm not sure because it'll be interesting
to see how much they really weigh Otani season
with how much time that he missed.
But we know that Bryce Terang
is in the top three nonetheless, really exciting for him.
But what was also exciting is what we have
to talk about what he also just achieved.
This is fully winning the award.
He won the gold glove for second base in National League.
Bryce Terang's second gold glove of his career.
He also won a platinum glove in 2024, which people cannot forget about.
Bryce Terang just continues to add hardware to his career.
And he only just completed year.
year four in Major League Baseball.
Again, as that reminder, he won the gold and platinum
glove in 2024. And then in 2025,
even though he didn't win any of the fielding awards for
baseball, he was also still a finalist for the gold glove.
So his down year of fielding.
Had him top three at his position in the National League.
Just really speaks to the levels
of what Bryce Turing can bring to the Milwaukee Brewers
on the defensive side of the ball.
But what has gotten him to the MVP talks?
Well, it could still be this fielding.
We're going to stick on the fielding side
for just one more bit, because when you look
at the defensive run saved in the defensive war,
that is really good for Bryce Turing.
Here are the defensive runs saved among all players
in Major League Baseball this season.
Bryce Terang ranked second in that category with 23.
The one above him was William Brehu,
who had a very comfortable lead at 28.
But you see Bryce Terang, I mean, just look
at it compared to the National League in general.
He's surrounded by so many AL names.
Bryce Terang sitting up there alone to represent the National League.
You also go to war, defensive war.
Bryce String has a 2.9, which
is the second highest in Major League Baseball
and the highest in the National League.
You see Walls up there, shortstop for the Rays,
who you saw on the last list.
Rafaela for the Red Sox, Abreu again for the Red Sox.
So there's some big...
Fielder names up here that Terang is surrounded by.
The top of the National League in both of those.
And I know there's a lot of other defensive categories you can look at.
Outs above average is a big one as well.
It's just going to depend on how, you know,
how all these people that are able to vote,
how much they weigh each of these specific fielding metrics
and how important they are
to them to cast a vote for a Platinum Glove or for an MVP.
A lot of the MVP is definitely offensive based.
But when you think of Terang's defensive season,
you know that was a big reason why he is up
there as an MVP.
So those are things to take into account.
What I want to take into account for you guys
is a question that I have for you guys.
Bryce String is a top what fielder in Major League Baseball?
Do you say he is the best fielder?
He is top one.
Is he top 3, 5, 10, 15?
I don't really know where to put him
because you definitely have to compare a lot of players.
But this is an interesting question that I wanted to rise.
And there's all these different positions.
I think catcher's the hardest position to field,
but you never really talk about them
being a platinum glover.
I know Cal Raleigh did get one,
I believe, the year that Terrain got one.
An outfielder is so much different than an infielder
and so much different than just
that catcher position alone that it is always hard
to weigh fielders because you have to
look at kind of some of these metrics on where you can compare them.
But then again, an outfielder is covering more ground.
Some people find that more impressive than other positions.
I get all of that.
So I'm just asking you the broad question,
where do you put Bryce Terang?
I'm not going to answer this question.
I'm going to leave it up to you guys.
But I.
We'll put him in one of the numbers that I have up here,
a.k.a. I do have him top 15.
I'll give you that.
This would definitely have to be a lot of comparing and contrasting,
and it's hard across the different positions.
Hence why the gold glove, they have one for every single position.
For both leagues and like the MVP or just one guy
for the whole league in each of the national and American League.
This is why the gold glove has a proposition
because sometimes it's hard to compare and contrast
but it's exciting that we're able to talk about a question like
this to really show how good Bryce Terang has been and Bryce Terang has
also just been having a good week in general.
This is from Todd from Todd McLeese on X. He says
Pretty good week for Bryce Turing.
On Wednesday, he won the World Series.
On Friday, he celebrated the World Series
in a parade with the entire state of Wisconsin
and definitely the entire city of Milwaukee.
On Saturday, he had an SNL appearance, which,
you know, his acting skills, I'll say they're
pretty good, not going to lie.
And then Sunday, win a gold glove.
This was posted after Turing won the gold glove.
Now you have to talk about an MVP.
We're going to take a look at his 2023 season
and just show how he has progressed all
the way up to this 2026 season.
So you go to 2023 and we're going to bring
this up on the big screen for you guys right here.
If it can load for just a second.
There we go.
I'm actually just going to bring all of them up.
We will make it easier for you.
You can just really look.
at the climb that Bryce Terang has had in his career.
And the big thing, I mean, the offensive climb is unreal.
We'll take it season by season so you can get a better picture
of what the metrics look like.
But you can look at some of the important things.
The average, on-base, slug, OPS.
What I notice a lot is just the power that really showed up.
In 2023 and 2024, kind of just be a base hit machine.
He'd get on base and he'd steal a lot of bases.
Don't get me wrong.
26 stolen bases in 2023.
50 in 2024, but now we change a little bit more to a power player.
You go to a slugging percentage both above 400 in 2025 and 26.
His home run number is at 18 and 21,
but this year, 21 homers, 37 doubles,
three triples, 100 runs driven in.
What an impressive season for Bryce Terang.
An OPS over 800 in his career.
OPS sits at 727, so it shows how drastic that season was.
Drastic in a good way for Bryce Terang.
But we look at, those are his 2020.
2023 season numbers and you can be looking
at that and not really knowing what you're
going to have with this young kid,
but you jump all the way to 2026 and there are some
very impressive metrics here.
You can see kind of the top percentages that he sat in in the league.
I'll put that on the left side for you.
Look at all of that green.
I mean, obviously the fielding as you see at the bottom,
there is going to be the one
that he dominates in the most.
But look at the bat.
I mean, we are going to take this just back to 2025.
You can see the hitting stats are kind of on that lower half there.
The average on-base slugging OPS.
You can see a lot of green there.
Take this just back to 2025.
And a lot of green is there as well.
But the big jump really offensively came from 2024 to 2025.
Because look at this chart in 2024.
Looks way different.
Not in the fielding categories, but in the hitting categories.
He's worked on his swing.
He's had all these different approaches.
He choked up a lot, even
though he was still able to have power while choking up a lot,
showed that he added some muscle in the offseason as well.
It's been a very impressive turnaround for Bryce Terang.
And then also just how he hits the baseball.
I mean, he is a guy that hits it everywhere across
the field, so it's really hard.
I know that the shift is kind of edited now.
It's not really banned in my mind because you can play to the bag.
Durang's not really a guy they can truly shift on.
He only really pulls when he hits the ball over the fence
because he turns on it and
gets around to it.
But he pulls 37% of the time,
hits it to the opposite field 33% of the time, and hits it
center 30% of the time.
That makes him really hard to field against
and why his batting average has definitely
climbed over these past couple of seasons.
So you can see the green ones go for a hit,
the gray ones go for an out, and the gold
ones are for homers.
That is what a spray chart looks like.
A pretty impressive one, to say the least, for Bryce Terang.
And that's why he's had so much success
and put himself in these talks for an MVP.
A very exciting year for Bryce Terang.
Definitely earned to get that final out
in the World Series with everything he's contributed
to the Milwaukee Brewers, just to this organization.
He's a guy that we're going to have to be talking about.
Will the Brewers re-sign him?
This is going to be a guy that...
Especially with his MVP finalist, could cost a pretty penny.
Some guys are going to have to stay.
Some are going to have to go from the Milwaukee Brewers 2026 team.
It's going to be tough to see.
And for many years down the road, the Brewers have some very top.
Top infield prospect, they are heavy in that category.
So does Terang last or do they let him walk
and hope that the guys can take his place?
Terang would be one of those guys
I would really like the Brewers to re-sign
because being second base,
he could be a cheaper guy to give an extension
in comparison to guys like outfielders and such.
He already signed Churrio to that extension
before he even played a game.
Cooper Pratt's there for the future.
Luis Lara's there for the future.
Hoping that Bryce Terang could really be the next one
up in line.
There'll be a lot to track on that,
But we saw a lot of...
A lot of contract talks will be happening
over these next couple of days.
More for guys like William Contreras, who we will see next season.
That was a big piece of news today for the Brewers.
So if you want to stay up to date on all of that and all
these awards that the Milwaukee Brewers could be winning,
make sure to follow the channel at Brewers Digest.
I've seen all the support throughout the season.
I hope to see it throughout the offseason
because even though they won the World Series,
that is hopefully not the last Major League Baseball game.
We hope that there will be baseball in 2027.
Now we're going to be talking about so much more.
But we're talking about Bryce String today.
Definitely got to clap it up for him.
What a career he has had with the Brewers.
I mean, one of the top picks that they had.
He stayed with the organization the whole time,
and he's really proven to be a centerpiece of this Brewers' future.
Hoping to lock him up for the next couple years down the road.
He's not gone this offseason.
Don't mean to be talking like that, but when you see numbers this big.
You know, a lot of teams will have eyes on him,
especially at a second base position
that, in my opinion, is kind of the thinnest
it's been in a good while.
It feels like Turing is comfortably
the best second baseman in baseball,
especially with this MVP finalist.
But that's all I got for this episode of Brewers Digest.
I appreciate you tuning in.
As always, we're going to be talking about
a lot more Brewers.
There's a lot more award finalists
and hopefully award winners
in the Milwaukee Brewers organization,
so you don't want to go anywhere.
Stay tuned for some of those videos
coming up in the future.
But as always, let's go, crew.
And so nice to say, 2026 World Series champions
and top three MVP finisher in Bryce Ture.
