Welcome everybody.
In case you couldn't tell, it's election day.
You decide. You decide. You
truly decide. You do. And thanks for deciding to watch us this morning.
So let's kick off our
election coverage at this hour with Gigi live
at the L.A. County Registrar's Office in Norwalk
with more on how you can cast your ballot today.
There's still plenty of time.
Ballot boxes and polls are open until 8 p.m. today. We're in front
of the Los Angeles County Registrar Recorder's Office here
on Imperial Highway in Norwalk
and there has been a steady stream of folks using
the ballot box right here just dropping off their
ballot and they're also lining up to vote in person
and we've seen a line going pretty much
all day. Never super long but business
so I would say is brisk and as of October 30th
The Los Angeles County Registrar Recorder said they're seeing already
higher turnout for this election than similar elections in the past.
Already by October the 30th, they had over a million votes cast.
And that represents about 17% of the voters.
Now this morning, we spent all morning talking to voters
and they were really excited.
Some people here to set an example for their grandkids,
grandma, I voted.
Now you guys have to go out and vote.
Other folks had specific issues that call to them.
We spoke to several people
who were really interested in the judges that.
We're up for nomination between judges and justices.
We saw about 24 choices there,
so plenty to pick from and plenty to study.
So I've been voting ever since 65,
and I haven't missed not one, because I know how
important it is.
If you want some changes, nobody make the changes but you, the people.
What do you tell people who say, I don't have time,
my vote doesn't count, it doesn't
matter?
No, I encourage every individual that I come in contact with, vote.
You must vote in order to make changes.
Because what we did and what we went through back
in Louisiana, back in the 50s and 60s
is why we have what we have now.
And I went through a lot back there, deep,
deep segregation, and I'm so happy to come
and vote and encourage anybody that I come
into contact to vote, please vote.
I actually heard that from a lot of voters.
If you don't vote, you can't complain
that no changes were made
or that things aren't going the way you would like them to go. So
we talked about
Plenty of time to get those ballots in.
429 officials secured drop boxes in LA County alone.
Your ballot must be in the box by 8 p.m.
You can also still mail it.
We recommend walking it into your post office,
have the clerk postmark it,
just so that they know you got it in on time.
They must be postmarked today.
And of course, you can always vote in person
at any vote center.
Remember, a lot of you might remember the days
where we were assigned a polling place.
Usually it was an elementary,
school or maybe a senior community center
in our neighborhood that doesn't exist anymore
you live in LA County so
you can stop anywhere bringing it back here live check out how busy it is
folks you've got folks in line
and then you've got folks
also in line with their cars to do a little drive-by by the ballot box right there
Business is brisk. It's been steady since about
4.30 this morning when we arrived here.
Lots of folks and a lot of folks voting in person,
a lot of first-time voters.
So again, you have till 8 p.m.
Should you arrive at a polling place and the line is really long,
as long as you're in line by 8 p.m.,
you will be allowed to cast your vote and it will count.
So get in line and as long as you're in line by 8, you're good to go.
Good luck.
Reporting live, I'm Gigi Gracia.
Back to you.
No excuses, right?
No excuses. All right, Gigi. Thank you.
In the Los Angeles mayor's race, incumbent Karen Bass
and city council member Nithya Raman are locked in a dead heat.
And Mario is live in Baldwin Hills
with that part of our coverage. Mario.
Hi Sandra, you know Gigi was just talking about the line where she
is and if you are in line by 8 p.m. you can still cast your ballot.
Well, we're thinking that that'll be the case here. Just take a look
at how long the line is at this sports complex in Baldwin Hills.
We've had a steady flow of people here all morning.
They opened at 7 o'clock like all the polls here across the state.
There have been people here that have been dropping off their ballot.
I have mine here, nine pages.
There is a lot to fill out, but a lot of people
that we've been speaking to, they want to
cast their ballot in person.
They feel more comfortable.
Comfortable waiting until election day
because there's a lot of information to go over and
there's more information that could come out.
But one of the biggest races here in Los Angeles is for mayor.
So let's start with city councilwoman Nithya Raman.
She wants to make L.A. more affordable.
She's proposing to triple housing construction
by cutting red tape and allowing more homes
in existing neighborhoods.
She wants to expand unarmed crisis response teams
and bring back Hollywood jobs by speeding
up film permits.
And we saw her out in Silver Lake voting earlier this morning.
Mayor Karen Bass seeking four more years,
pointing to her record on homelessness and
housing, her Inside Safe program,
which we've covered extensively, moved thousands of people
from encampments into temporary housing and public safety.
When it comes to that topic,
she wants to increase LAPD staff into 9,500 officers, but
she's faced criticism over the Palisades fire response,
city finances, and the latest UC
Berkeley LA Times poll shows that both candidates
are at 40% support among likely voters and
about 19% polled were
still undecided.
So we talked to voters here throughout the morning in Baldwin Hills.
Here's what a few have to say about the races.
Mayor, governor, homeland security, taxes, homeowners insurance
that's going through the roof, homelessness, a lot.
Prop 45.
I just, I hope it passes.
Yeah, and tell me a little bit about why.
Why?
Just, I care about the environment.
The gas is too high.
You know, I mean, it's hard to get back and forth to work.
You know, I might think about riding a bike.
Bye.
Yeah. Now, if we come back out here live again, this is the line.
It's the longest that we've seen here in Baldwin Hills. I want
to ask someone here at the end of the line, what brought you out?
What issues brought you out? Let me start with that.
Well, it's honestly very important to vote. This election is...
I can't explain how important it really
is that our voices are heard and this is the
way to do it.
We have the right to vote.
We should exercise that right every single time.
And you just said, I wish I would have done my mail-in ballot because-
Yeah.
I'm a little late to work now, but my boss understands.
Yeah, I had the opportunity, I procrastinated, however, I'm here.
I knew I needed to do it.
It's my obligation.
Do you feel more comfortable waiting until election day?
Honestly, life happens, I just kind of,
things got in the way, you know, just, but nonetheless,
I definitely, I feel good, it's a beautiful day,
it's not raining, anything, so it should
be a good voting day.
Okay, so I've got my ballot as well,
a lot of people waited until the last minute for
for now, we'll send it back to you,
this is the latest here in Baldwin Hills.
It's okay, I procrastinate for everything, literally everything.
Me too.
Uh-huh.
The only way to get it done.
is to wait until last minute.
All right, thank you, Mario.
So L.A. mayoral candidate Nithya Raman casted her ballot this morning.
We have Brooke Thomas live from Silver Lake with more on that.
Good morning.
Hey there, here.
I'm also with, well, I'm with would-be voters.
You know, if so many people didn't take advantage of our options
when it comes to,
are you guys headed to vote?
Can I talk to you? It's been pretty easy to vote today.
Can I grab you really quickly?
They don't wanna talk. They're going in.
But there are two people voting and I saw two
people go in. It's so interesting
because Mario is seeing lines, Gigi's seeing a lot
of people and I'm not seeing a lot of people at all.
But again, that could be a good sign.
That could mean people took advantage of early
voting. We've seen our early voting numbers.
That can also mean that people are taking
advantage of just being able to drive up to a ballot box
and drop your completed ballot
in.
I want to show you what happened earlier this morning
when we talked to councilwoman
Nithya Raman right after she cast her ballot
for herself in front of her entire family.
It's overwhelming.
It's just I feel so lucky.
My parents and in-laws have been here
on and off helping with childcare throughout the
entire campaign.
My father and father-in-law have personally knocked on probably...
A thousand doors.
My dad is everyone's favorite canvasser.
The number of voters I meet across Los Angeles
who said they met my dad at a tabling booth
or at their door is just so...
I feel so lucky to have a family that has supported this vision
and they're in it because
They know that Los Angeles deserves a city that works for everyone.
And they're out here fighting for that.
They may not be full time residents of LA,
but they believe in that vision and they're fighting for it.
Hey, you know what? Just as we were listening
to the councilwoman right there, we got a very
enthusiastic voter walk off and I just knew that he was headed to vote.
He's dressed in this bear
suit and of course, my first question is,
I'm sorry, what's with the outfit? But he had an
answer for me. I'm the California bear.
This was my Halloween costume from a couple days ago,
so I thought I would just reuse it today.
It's a talker, get people talking, maybe
remind people to get out there and vote, right?
That's right. And voting should be
a joyful experience. It shouldn't have to be life or death as it is.
These past few elections.
You want to share what's important to you on the ballot today?
I'm voting obviously for the governor
for hopefully to get control of the Senate.
Obviously in California,
it's not as critical as it is in other states, but I still want
to be out here and make sure that my voice
is heard for all of these important issues.
Do you want to share who you're supporting for mayor?
That's obviously the big talker out there.
Nithya.
You are.
You are.
Tell me why.
She's my representative here in the city council.
I like what she's done.
I like her views.
I'm not a big fan of what Karen Bass has
been doing for the past six years, so
I'm looking for a change.
And are you gonna be wearing this all day or just for the-
I can't- It's a talker,
you never know, right? It's super comfortable.
Yeah, okay, you remind people to get out there and vote.
That's right. Yeah, all right,
well, what's your name? Tim.
Tim, I appreciate you, Tim, thank you. All right, cool, thank you.
Now I'll send thanks back to you all in the studio.
I'm gonna let Tim go cast his ballot.
That's right, in a bear suit and everything.
Yeah.
The California bear suit, not just any bear suit.
The California bear.
That's right.
All right, there it is.
Thank you so much, Brooke.
The battle for L.A. mayor has been a pretty contentious race. It
really comes down to two very different messages.
You just heard Tim right there talk about it.
You have Mayor Karen Bass,
who is making the case she deserves more time to continue the work she
began, while Nithya Raman is saying Los Angeles needs
a change in leadership and that the city
cannot afford more of the same.
So in the final hours, both candidates were going directly
After one another's records,
Nithya Raman positioning herself as the change.
She was at a rally at UCLA yesterday
and she told supporters the city doesn't deliver
and that she's promising that things will change because promises have
been broken with Karen Bass pointing to city services
and saying things are worse now than they were four years ago.
Her message is Los Angeles needs more transparency,
more affordability and a different approach at City Hall.
This city has broken its promises to the people of Los Angeles over
and over again by every metric.
If you look at city services,
we are doing worse now than we were four years ago under
the leadership of this mayor.
I wanna bring change to this broken status quo.
But Mayor Bass is pushing back,
arguing that experience matters and that she deserves the
opportunity to continue her work.
She's questioning whether Raman has the experience
or the record to lead the city.
Bass took aim at Raman's claims about reducing homelessness
in her council district and her record on building affordable housing.
Saying she reduced homelessness in her district by 50%
when that is not true.
Building the least amount of affordable housing out
of the 15 people on the council.
So, what are voters weighing today?
It's not just the personality contest here.
There are some real big issues, right?
So, we're talking homelessness,
whether the city is making enough progress, affordable housing,
the cost of living, city services, how well City Hall is functioning,
public trust, and transparency around LADWP utility bills
and the future of LAPD Chief Jim McDonald.
Former candidate Spencer Pratt has weighed in.
He's posting this.
He posted this about a couple hours ago.
L.A. mayor race is all bad,
but there are some things to look forward to.
If Bass loses, that commie witch will finally face accountability
for the Palisades.
If Nithya loses, it'll rid us of those smug dorks like Fravio, finally.
See, I'm a reservoir half-full kind of guy.
All right. Meantime, a historic first for voters in Huntington Park.
So today the city holds its
first ever district-based city council election.
Three of the city's five new council districts
are on the ballot. Districts two, four, and five.
It's a major change from the city's at-large system
with voters now choosing members from their own districts.
The new five-district map
was approved this year following a community redistricting process.
All right, in the race for governor,
Democrat Javier Becerra and Republican Steve Hilton
are vying to succeed Governor Gavin Newsom.
Becerra casting his vote this morning in Sacramento.
As you see right there, the Democratic candidate served
as Secretary of Health and Human Services
in the Biden administration.
Becerra is the former California Attorney General
and U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary.
He's campaigning on affordability
and the need to address rising everyday expenses.
Hilton, a former Fox News host,
is promising lower taxes, cheaper gasoline,
and a different direction for California.
Hilton is seeking to become the first Republican elected governor
of California since Arnold Schwarzenegger.
And here's a look at some of the propositions we'll be voting on today.
Prop 1 would allow the state to sell $11.2 billion
in bonds to fund various affordable housing programs.
Prop 39 would require voters to show government-issued ID at the polls.
Prop 40 would require Californians whose net worth exceeds $1 billion
to pay a one-time 5% tax.
Prop 44 would require community clinics that serve low-income patients
to spend 90% of their annual revenue on patient care.
To read more about the propositions,
go to foxla.com or download the Fox Local app.
Lyft is trying to make sure transportation
doesn't keep voters from the polls.
The company is offering half-off rides to voting centers
and official drop boxes all across Southern California today.
Just punch in the code VOTE26 into your app.
You'll save up to $10 on your rideshare, bike, or scooter.
The offer is good all day until 10 p.m.
All right, here's a live look
at the ballot processing center in the city of industry.
They are busy at work.
Processing all those ballots,
the first official count will come after the polls close,
and it'll come at 8:30 tonight, the first wave of official numbers.
Stay with us. We'll be right back.
Justin Timberlake may soon share long-awaited parts
of his life with fans.
The singer is reportedly preparing a tell-all docuseries
that revisits some of the biggest controversies of his career.
The four-part series is expected to feature Janet Jackson
and address past relationship dramas with Britney Spears.
According to sources,
it's expected to stream later this year on Apple TV.
So we'll learn about the wardrobe malfunction.
Action!
We were talking about this earlier,
because it's a four-part docu-series,
so you know they're going to put, not the most boring stuff,
but maybe the tamest stuff first, so you have something to tease to,
and we're thinking the Britney Spears part,
that's the juiciest, is going to be the last, yeah, part four.
I don't know, there's a lot of questions there.
Did you read her autobiography?
No, that's what I did.
For her memoir?
No, I didn't.
Yeah.
I read it.
There's one pretty major revelation that she talks about.
Okay.
Which is that she, and if you haven't seen the, or read the book.
I mean, I think you can say it.
Yeah, that she had an abortion.
Oh.
And that Justin Timberlake was the father.
So, you know, whether he's going to address that,
whether he wants to address that.
Did he know?
I don't I don't I think so. Okay.
I think that's what she says in the book. Sorry.
Now I'm like very interested. How old was she when that happened?
No. Oh, it was when they were dating. Yeah. They were young.
But they're obviously both like very high profile figures.
Yeah. So who knows if he's going to talk about that or not.
But wow. That's one of the big ones. Okay.
Yeah. Now I'm going to talk about this.
A woman's thoughts on cleaning workout equipment. Viral.
We have the lighting is beautiful,
the branding is impeccable and the price is a premium,
like we all know how expensive it is.
And then the class ends and you're handed this
tiny little square of a wipe to prepare
the machine for the next paying client.
So when I started really thinking about this,
I mean, I don't go to a restaurant and wash
the dishes for the next table or my hairdresser doesn't hand me a broom
to clean up and sweep up the hair
and disinfect the brushes after my haircut.
Why is the cleanliness of an expensive studio dependent
on how thoroughly the woman before
me felt like wiping?
Okay, wait, this is actually a good point.
Good.
Also, I was doing this yesterday afternoon
and always thinking the same thing because
not everyone wipes the same.
Okay.
Oh, so there's so many different services that you're choosing to.
What are you wiping?
Yes, exactly.
With the two little towels.
Yeah.
You know what?
They never wipe the handles and they never wipe.
I do.
Well, I watch other people.
I would want to get on the machine after a Roxy.
Yeah, that's right.
What do you call it?
The springs.
Yeah, the springs.
The handles of the springs.
I do.
Those are the ones that you touch the most.
That's right.
That's right.
I just want you to know I do.
I believe you.
But also, I see other people.
She's always the last one to leave class.
I am, actually.
And then we give you two little squares.
Yes, and that's not enough.
That's not enough.
Also, let me just add, when I'm looking at the floor,
And I notice it's dusty.
There is no reason that they don't
do a Swiffer wipe in between the classes.
And I'm telling you, it's not even in between the classes.
I don't even think they do it every day.
No.
Because there's a buildup of loose hair.
People are shedding.
Oh, yeah.
There's dust.
And then why don't you Swiffer?
The same place where people are putting their sweat towels
or their water bottles or their cell phones or whatever it is.
Yeah.
I think about this, too, whenever I'm in a sweat yoga class, right?
Like a hot yoga.
That's a whole different thing.
Oh, yeah.
You're slipping.
You are slipping on other people's sweat
when you're putting your stuff away.
It's gross.
No, thank you.
It's gross.
Wow.
And at least they're taking a mop
and they're mopping it up in between the classes.
They don't do that during Pilates.
Yes.
I will add, though.
At least these wipes, like, you use and you throw out.
I need more than two, though.
Right.
Do you know those places where you, like, they spray it,
and then they have, like, this disgusting rag?
Yeah.
God knows when it was washed.
Yeah, like certain gyms.
Right.
Oh, yeah.
And then you just use that same thing over and over, over and over.
Yeah.
You know what I also think?
Anytime you're taking a workout class, burn some sage.
And clean it out, clean the air out after every class is over.
Like an air purifier.
Yeah, that thing makes me run all the time.
You should actually have an air purifier.
Yeah, because you're breathing during your class.
Right.
Everyone's dirty.
Yeah, get a Dyson.
Get an air purifier.
It's the very least you could do.
Honestly, now you know what I'm saying.
Because you're charging me 40 bucks per class.
Yeah.
Yeah, this girl had a good point.
They need professional cleaning between each class.
I liked her hair, too.
I know, she looks good.
Yeah.
Yeah, she did.
Oh, it's me.
Sorry.
Country singer Jesse James Decker didn't hesitate
when a fellow passenger crossed the line on a recent flight.
In a viral Instagram video, a 38-year-old was spotted holding her nose
and pulling out a spray bottle after a stranger rested a bare foot.
I don't know if I believe it right in her arm.
I don't believe this, there's no way.
I don't believe this.
The offender quickly yanked his foot away.
She gave it a direct spray.
I don't think that this actually happened.
Also, who starts filming before they do this?
Thank you.
Well, I mean, she was if it had happened for a while,
you pull out your phone.
I don't believe this.
I think this is probably your husband.
Yeah.
Flooding the comments.
And no one's going to pull their foot away that fast.
You're going to be like, wait, what was that?
I know.
But also, like who?
I'm sorry, but who in their right mind would put
their bare foot in somebody else's airspace like that?
That's disgusting.
I just, you know, I believe that people will go on a flight
and they'll take their shoes off.
But I don't believe in the idea that people
are putting their bare feet up on other people's
headrests like that.
Well, I think they would put it at the edge,
but not fully through to the other
side.
That was a weird shot.
You have to really work.
What?
That was an interesting shot.
Oh.
From behind your head.
Oh.
Oh, right there.
Say hello.
Yeah, you'd have to squeeze your foot to get to the other side.
To put it through.
I think, yeah, they put it at the edge, right, the end of your armrest.
Yeah, that takes a lot of time.
You know what's really disgusting?
Kind of a different topic,
but when people go to the lavatory barefoot or with socks.
Wait a second.
Oh, that's disgusting.
You mean like the bathroom, the airplane bathroom?
You've seen people do that before.
No, thanks.
Thanks.
See, and you make fun of me
because I flush my toilet with the handle, with my hand.
Well, you're supposed to do other things with the handle.
I could be doing other things like this.
Next time we fly together, I'm going to put my foot on your foot rack.
We've never flown together.
Yeah.
The next time.
The next time we do it.
I'm starting to speak now.
Halloween is in the rear of your mirror.
Earmuffs, Amanda, sorry.
Thanksgiving is coming up.
That's right, and that means
a 25 year tradition at the Grove is also almost
here and about to reach a milestone.
Wow, this year's
a big one,
25 years of the annual Christmas at the Grove happening at the Grove.
And our next guest Lance Bass is hosting this big 25 quarter century.
Thanks for being here this morning.
Almost as old as me now.
Yes, that's right.
How long have you been doing that?
Is this my fourth or fifth year?
I think so, right?
I keep bringing it back.
Thanks, Rick.
Good job.
No, it's so much fun.
I mean, if you know me, you know I love the holidays.
I love my Halloween.
But, you know, Christmas is also, you know,
right there on the top of my list.
So it's nice to come back
and celebrate the 25th anniversary of Christmas at the Grove.
It's a big one.
So are we going bigger and better than before?
Of course.
It always gets bigger every year.
This year, I mean, we have some incredible musicians coming out.
I saw that.
I mean, Nicole Scherzinger, Jason Mraz.
And we have some really good surprise guests
this year that they don't want me to talk about.
I don't know why, because they are some big names.
But I guess they want to leave a little surprise for you.
A little magic.
It's probably the biggest holiday celebration we have here.
It is.
Like our Rockefeller people come from all over the country to see this.
I mean, thousands of people gather at the grove.
It is such a beautiful sight.
It snows, Santa's there, Mrs. Claus is there.
It is such a fun, it really just kind of gets you.
In that mood.
We've been out there before and it's true,
the crowds when they show up, the energy,
the enthusiasm, everyone's ready to get their shopping on too.
Even last year, it rained a little bit
and people, they did not even care.
They just pretended it was snow.
That's right.
I'm surprised that they fit in all these people.
You know what I mean?
It's like they pack it in there.
It is a celebration that everyone that goes,
even if you're in the very back, you're having
the best time ever.
Right.
What's your favorite part of it?
I mean, besides being on stage, I just I love bringing my family to it.
It was the it was the first event I brought
my kids to when they were just one.
So the first time we got him out of the house,
it was during the COVID years.
So it was I just love that memory of being able to finally have
them out of the house and they met Santa for the first time.
So I kind of get into that age where they really can.
Enjoy and kind of understand it.
I mean, they are holiday kids because,
you know, Baba loves the holidays.
But, you know, now that they're five, they just turned five,
this will be the first holidays they kind of remember, right?
That's right.
I remember as a kid, like five
is when I started really remembering those holidays.
So this now has to make it magical.
You've got to really bring it now.
Yeah, exactly.
Is the elf on the shelf in your household?
We do.
We do elf on the shelf, although my kids touch them a lot
and their magic disappears.
It's okay.
It's okay.
They have gloves for that, you know.
But we have Will Ferrell as our elf on the shelf.
So he's, you know, he's our guy.
How quickly do you transition, though?
Because we were talking about, you heard us talking about...
Carols and stuff like that.
Does it start?
Look, I have rules.
Halloween, October 1st.
You can't go before that.
I go all out for Halloween.
The decorations are coming down today.
We'll slowly start getting Christmas up.
I have to go to New York a lot this month,
but I'll be putting up a few trees this year.
A few?
What's a few?
This year, it'll probably be about seven.
I know.
There used to be almost 40.
Big, small, all different, right?
There used to be how many?
Almost 40.
What?
Yeah, but I've retired.
I imagine.
I do, yeah, I have a good-
You have elves.
Have friends come over.
We have a night, we do this thing
every year called a charcuterie
Christmas.
So everyone brings a charcuterie
board into the competition.
So a lot of people come and
help me decorate before that.
Okay, who wins the competition
every year?
I don't get to enter because that
would be unfair.
That's not fair. But my friend
last year did a charcuterie,
which was Rihanna.
It was in the shape of Rihanna.
It was absolutely incredible.
That's hilarious.
And it definitely won.
Okay, so you've been here before,
and I think, maybe not the last
Last time you were here, but we talked about
your Halloween book, which I have to say,
I read this Halloween book to my son every night.
I love that.
And he looks forward to it.
He loves it.
The Trick or Treat on Scary Street.
There we are.
Look at that.
He loves it.
He loves the ghost.
The ghost.
Yes.
Yes.
Do you have a holiday book out now?
I do.
You know, I wrote a follow up of Scary Street,
my publisher was like, actually, can we do
Christmas next?
I said, yes, we can.
And there's a cute little black cat that's in Scary Street,
and my kids just love this cat.
And it's not even a main character in the first book, but I was like,
okay, what if we spin a Christmas book off of that character?
I like that.
So that is Mrs. Claus, actually, becomes Santa's cat.
Claws, as in claws.
As in claws.
She's a very mischievous cat.
Yeah, scary Halloween cat that just has Christmas in her heart,
and you will see Santa bestows
a nice green eye with her,
and so she gets to read the Santa's naughty and nice list.
It's a really fun character.
And it's out right now?
It is out now.
Yeah.
Legend of Mrs. Claus, and I mean,
I'm just so excited about it, because now, this is
my favorite thing I've written,
because now they're developing a TV show after it.
No way.
Oh my gosh.
Congratulations.
It's gonna be really fun.
She's become a fun character.
The writing easy, does it come easy to you?
Like coming up with the character or coming up with the storyline?
It comes so natural when I'm writing.
I did not know, until I had kids,
I didn't know I had this in me to write children's books.
And this is all I think about these days.
Really?
I like writing music.
You like your mind races in your life.
Right.
But this, I'm just very creative.
And my kids are huge inspirations.
Yeah.
Have they given you feedback or character development?
They give me feedback all the time.
And they said, we want to be elves in the book.
So I made them elves in the book.
And they did suggest that their friends at school are on the nice list.
So you'll see the scroll of the nice kids.
And it's all of their friends from school and their playgroups.
Well, the elves.
Your illustrations look beautiful.
They are, they're great.
They look really nice.
Yeah.
They did an incredible,
incredible job.
All the illustrators I use are from
France, actually.
Nice, okay.
Something about French artists.
They're just great.
I love working with them.
So now, you're a father.
The holidays have to hit
differently for you now,
especially with the kids.
Do you have your own traditions
that you started with your kids?
Nothing that I've really
Kind of started, it's passing on.
I love my parents, they love the holidays.
So going to all the fancy neighborhoods
and looking at all the decorations that
really, I love that opening the one present the night before.
Of course.
It's all those little traditions,
it's always like getting the same pajamas the night before.
Yeah.
Putting out your milk and cookies and again,
the milk is out for Mrs. Claus by the way.
Nice.
By the way, cats are lactose intolerant sometimes.
Be careful with that.
Yeah.
I learned that too.
I'm sure your parents get really excited for this too,
now that you have these little
ones too.
They do.
So do you bring them into town?
Do you go to their house?
My parents are professional grandparents.
They are just the best.
They live in Mississippi, and so we get to travel there a good bit.
The kids, twice a year,
they spend a week with the grandparents like it's their camp.
They get to go into the woods and search for dinosaurs and dragons,
and they have a magical,
magical town with my grandparents.
That's what it's all about, truly.
Yeah.
Family and traditions.
Yeah.
I've experienced something different, I mean,
it's so different over there, right?
It is, well, you know, one set of their grandparents lives
in Miami Beach, and the other lives
in the country, Mississippi, so they get- Yeah,
how did you work out, like, who gets
the, which holiday?
Because we're trying,
me and my husband are trying to figure this out, too.
Well, the good thing is, half my family is Jewish,
and half are Christian, so, you know,
we get Hanukkah with one family,
and then we get Christmas time with my side of the
family, which we all celebrate every, you know, every holiday.
I hope your kids know how good they have it.
I hope they do, I hope they do.
I have it good too, though.
I have to say.
And then you recently moved, right?
I did, yeah.
I stay in the Valley, though.
So, yes, you know, I've
You're a Valley boy.
I've lived all over L.A. for almost 30 years now.
And yeah, now we're kind of...
We've moved into our next chapter with the kids.
They're now going to real school now,
and we needed a little bit of a yard.
I had no yard, so now we found a house that they could run in.
You have more space, but you're 40 trees.
Exactly.
Like the way you grew up, you know what I mean?
Exactly.
Like backyard and just living that dream, Lance.
Run around, get lost.
I love it.
It's fantastic.
You're giving them what they need.
I try, I try.

Always great to be here, guys.
Happy holidays.
Happy holidays.
Holidays.
That's the first time I said it this season.
Yeah!
Welcome back to GDLA+.
Listen, we've been looking forward to this.
We all love ice cream.
We all love handles.
Yeah, we do.
Have you had handles?
Yes.
Yes, I sure have.
Good.
Okay, so they were named the number one ice cream on the planet.
What?
Yes, by National Geographic.
And today they dropped off three.
Flavors, pie-inspired flavors for us to try, okay?
For Thanksgiving.
So we are going to try, let's find the deep dish apple pie first.
Who's that one?
I think it's the first one.
This is the first one, yeah.
Okay, let's try.
I need a sugar rush.
Okay.
Mmm.
This is great.
Truly.
Ooh.
Pile of mode, right?
It does taste like apple pie.
Apple pie.
There's crust.
Yeah, there's crust.
Humble, cinnamon crunch.
I can taste the apple.
Mm-hmm.
It's, like, not too hard, you know what I mean?
Not too hard, not too soft.
We're going to move on to the banana cream pie.
Okay, fine.
Okay, hold on.
Which I'm assuming is this.
I don't love banana-flavored things.
This has marshmallow and sugar cookie gems.
Oh, heck yeah.
We're good?
Mm-hmm.
I'm a little...
Okay.
Okay.
Have you ever had the...
This is good, actually.
And I'm not a banana girl.
...banana pudding from Magnolia Bakery?
Mm-hmm.
It tastes like the frozen version of that.
Oh, this is good.
This is actually really good.
It is good.
And I'm not a banana girl.
Mm-hmm.
Me too.
Okay.
Wow.
They nailed it on this one.
I'm just trying to, like, it was very cold.
Hold on.
How do you cleanse your palate?
Lastly, we have the French silk pie.
I can get down with this.
Yes.
So this has butterfudge ice cream,
graham crackers, and chocolate chips.
Butterfudge, okay.
Okay.
Mm-hmm.
Well, which is your favorite?
This one.
Mm-hmm.
Although I'm kind of torn between the chocolate and the apple.
Me too.
I kind of like the chocolate and banana.
Wow.
Who are you?
I don't know.
This is delicious.
Oh my gosh.
Well, one of each.
Thank you, Handel.
So thank you so much.
That was a nice treat.
Yeah.
Now we'll take a break so we can eat.
Aren't you glad you watched us eat just now?
It gives them.
Wow, the chocolate's really good.
It is rich.
Maybe this one.
Oh, look at that.
It looks very pretty.
I was just talking about Redondo Beach.
I know.
I was just saying, the best key lime pie is at Kincaid's,
which is right there.
To the right.
To the right, to the right.
It's really good.
Also, the baked brie is really good, too.
You can find that on the Happy Hour.
You're welcome.
And then you can walk along the strand right there and work it all off.
All right, there's an Instagram video going viral from a mom
who says she's just trying
to find a fun way to get her kids to try new foods
and it's getting a lot of reaction. Take a look.
Okay, boys, dinner time.
This is a dinosaur dinner and wait,
you have to eat it like dinosaurs.
Dinosaurs don't use their hands, you have to get down
and eat it with your mouth and these are your waters.
We have some new foods, we have some
persimmon.
Wait, is this real food?
Oh my gosh, look, there's avocado, pieces of
Beets, persimmons, this is a floor, is this a floor or is this a floor?
This is a floor, this is a floor.
These children are eating, putting their mouths on.
They're eating like dogs, not like dinosaurs.
Wait, is this like a recommendation?
So she says in her post that...
This is moms being absolutely nuts.
And trying to find content, right?
She says she quadruple washed the floor so it's clean.
She says she's dealing with a picky eater, will join the club.
And this is a fun.
This is a fun way for her to distract him.
You know how to deal with a picky eater?
This is all the dinner you're getting.
If you don't want to eat it, then you don't have to eat it.
But there's no more, hey, the kitchen's closed.
That's right.
So when you go out to dinner and your kid's not eating,
Are you going to put the food on the floor?
Yeah, what are you going to do?
Wait, is she eating it, too, off the floor?
Look, there she is.
I can't.
And this is why moms stress themselves out into therapy,
because we're overdoing it.
We're overfunctioning.
I had two picky eaters.
They'll grow out of it, okay?
Yeah, maybe the first seven years of their lives,
they eat the same five things.
And maybe they starve, but that's fine.
In the eighth year, they will start trying new things.
It's fine.
20 years from now, they're girlfriends.
What are you eating on the floor for?
Right, right.
Get off the floor.
That is gross.
It's gross.
It's, yeah, it's just for content, I think.
It's for content, but they were doing it.
Yeah.
They actually did it.
It's child abuse.
It's wrong.
Well, using your kids is like, you know, like,
I don't know, not props, maybe props, right?
This is why I don't like the internet.
Play date etiquette has officially hit a new low.
So a mom is facing some major backlash online.
What do we do now?
After sending another parent a $31 bill
for a play date that she asked for,
according to a viral text exchange discussed on Today FM broadcast.
That's a breakfast.
What is this?
The mom demanded...
Reimbursement to cover lunch, snacks, juice,
and even expensive craft supplies used during a three-hour visit.
When the stunned parent pointed out it was an invitation,
the host doubled down, arguing that hosting isn't free.
Hey, lady, whatever happened to,
we'll get you next time, or you'll get us next time?
Also, $31? That's so weird.
Hey, guess what? My kid's never coming over to your house again.
That's weird.
Just come on over here.
I'm embarrassed.
You could always offer to pay,
knowing that it's going to cost money to feed your kid.
And then usually you're like, no, it's fine, right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
I don't know why we're sending each other bills or invoices.
That's really weird.
I would just be like, what's your Venmo?
I'll send you some money.
Thank you for taking care of my kid.
Right?
I'm like, are we, are we, have we absolutely lost our minds,
lost our minds? Yes, we have.
That is really strange.
It's one thing if like you, your kid was taken out and they went out
and they did all these things
and you feel like you should Venmo the person yourself just on your
own, right? Whatever. Or if you took them to like a,
like a museum or something, excuse me, or,
you know, like an adventure
and it's common sense tickets to cost money, like whatever.
I don't know. I just remember, you know,
growing up and maybe times were just different, but
we would always go to each other's houses.
There was never any kind of like payment plan
or anything like that between the parents.
Like it was never like clarna me.
Like me.
It was never like, I got you on credit.
Wait, but also, playdates were different back then.
Yeah.
These playdates are a little different.
They're a little fancy schmancy.
It's like, come over, bring your Barbies.
Now it's like...
Pay for spaghetti.
Yeah, pay for spaghetti.
Spaghetti-os.
Spaghetti-os.
Thank you.
I still remember, by the way, I still remember the smell of spaghetti.
Do you?
It smelled like...
Yes.
Oh, my God.
I remember the first time I had a TV dinner at my friend's house,
Sarah Peterson, and
it was like the nuggets with the sweet and sour sauce.
Oh, yeah.
It was the most amazing experience of my life.
I still remember the smell of those, too, and the taste.
Oh, my gosh, the sweet and sour sauce.
Wait, I think it did have a brownie on this side.
A brownie, yes, a crusty brownie.
It was always like a little bit too fudgy, but in a good way.
Oh, that sounds good.
Yeah, right?
Yeah.
I don't need a boyfriend.
Trending today.
Help the host here.
That's the message for this Thanksgiving.
Behold the Butterball Buddy.
Here's how it works.
Someone must be in possession of the buddy.
And periodically throughout the day,
it'll alert people with tasks like setting the table.
Oh, my goodness.
Or doing the dishes.
Cheers.
Once the chore is done, the buddy gets passed to a new guest.
The idea came from surveys of Thanksgiving hosts
who say they'd like a little help but feel bad asking.
The buddy will be available online on November 9th.
You know what?
Can I ask why is the buddy on your hip?
Why is the buddy on your hip?
Like it's a life alert.
Get your butterball in the kitchen and help me out.
It's okay to be direct and upfront.
We don't need a device that we have to pay money for.
We can't even communicate.
That's right.
You need a device that electrocutes you or something.
That reminds you.
Right.
First of all, get better guests and friends, right?
Because, like, if you're not...
If you can't openly communicate and give them a job,
hey, you just pulled dish duty.
No, but if you're a guest or a family member
and the host is hosting,
obviously you would offer help, right?
Like, hey, do you need anything?
Can I help you with anything?
You want me to bring the wine out?
You want me to pour?
Right, so, like, get better family members.
And you're not going to lift a finger?
You just sit on your butt down and eat?
You shovel food in your mouth?
Yeah.
Put that food on the ground.
Yeah, that's right.
I'm going to put it on the ground.
You're going to eat it like a dinosaur.
The turkey's on the ground.
If you don't like it.
Tough.
Wait.
Also, this whole thing is dumb,
but if that's the route you're going to take, why don't
you just text them?
Right.
Like you need to buy that dumb thing.
Right.
Like what is that about?
Text you.
Analog.
It's like a Tamagotchi.
It's so dumb.
Do you know what a Tamagotchi is?
Of course.
Yeah.
Is it Tamagotchi or Gochi?
Gochi.
Gochi.
Tamagotchi?
It's all right.
It's okay.
This is just-
Well, growing up as deeply Caucasian-
That's okay.
Okay.
Okay.
Top off the glasses.
Thank the host.
You never wanted to thank your host.
I know, that's what I'm saying.
To thank the person who just-
People have just-
That is what I'm saying.
Society has become beyond.
Yeah.
Or just extremely gimmicky, right?
Yeah, that's true.
We're all for content.
We're just fools.
Yeah, we're idiots.
What's that, by the way?
Oh, never mind.
Oh, this is nothing.
Don't worry about that.
Okay.
Sorry.
Why do we have note cards?
If you're traveling, Roxia,
make sure you don't put your suitcase on your bed.
Don't need to tell you that.
I mean, come on.
She actually invented that rule.
Because suitcase wheels, if you don't know, they can pick up
Bacteria, viruses, and even mold from high-traffic areas,
including airport bathrooms.
Do you guys, when you go to the airport bathroom,
do you take your luggage in there?
If I'm traveling by myself, I have no choice.
Yeah, you have to seize yourself.
I know, it sucks.
And there's another unwelcome guest.
I could make the trip home with you, bedbugs.
See, this is why one germ expert says it's
not necessarily dangerous, but, quote, icky.
Experts recommend wiping down your luggage after every trip using
a luggage rack instead of your bed when you are...
Whenever I watch movies and in the movies they, like,
put the suitcase on the bed, I just get so angry.
But you know that runner that they put at the foot of the bed?
That's where everyone puts their luggage.
Isn't it?
That is the dirtiest place.
Like the bench?
No, and then there's like this fabric.
Oh, there's me.
There's a fabric runner.
Oh, yeah, or you could just be like Roxy.
Or just be like me.
Yeah, wipe down everything.
Go to my Instagram to watch a tutorial.
How many Clorox wipes do you go through?
A lot.
Yeah.
A lot.
More.
Paper towels, I go through more paper towels, I think.
Yeah, by the way, the gloves is more for also,
I don't want to damage my nails.
No, honestly, it's more, it's that.
Save that manicure.
Yeah, I gotta save my manicure.
Exactly.
Thank you, are they black?
I go out and vote everybody.
Go vote.
Yep.
