I want to begin by expressing
my deepest gratitude
to my family,
my entire campaign team, the
volunteers, the donors, those who knocked on doors,
put out a yard sign, sent out a letter
or a word of encouragement.
I just spoke with Dr. Letitia Plummer.
I congratulated her and conceded the race.
And I wish her as much success as anyone as she prepares
to assume the responsibilities of our next Harris County judge.
I know firsthand that public service is both a privilege
and a tremendous responsibility.
And I sincerely hope that her administration succeeds
in meeting the challenges that this county faces.
Because when our county government succeeds,
the people of Harris County benefit.
Throughout this campaign,
we talked about the need for responsible government,
safe neighborhoods, flood protection,
emergency preparedness, accountability to taxpayers.
Those issues do not disappear because the election has ended.
They remain important to the families
and communities that we all care about.
And they will require people
of different political beliefs to work together.
I have always believed that public service is about something
greater than any one candidate or any one political party.
It is about our neighbors,
it is about our families and the future we all share.
I'm proud of the campaign that we ran
and I'm proud of the people who stood with us.
I am grateful for the opportunity
to have traveled throughout Harris County,
listened to its residents,
and discussed the issues that matter to them.
To our supporters, I want to say this.
Do not lose your faith in public service.
Do not lose your commitment to our community.
Let us leave this campaign behind
with gratitude rather than bitterness,
with respect rather than division,
and with hope rather than disappointment.
Let us also wish our new county judge well
and let us continue to work together
so that the county we all call home will become a better place.
God bless each and
every one of you and God bless Harris County.
Thank you all for being here.
