Also, a lot of blue back here at home, as can be expected.
Many of the local races in Maryland, Virginia, and the district,
not really a big surprise going with Democrats.
Fox 5's Melanie Allick is live this morning
in Baltimore with a recap of those results.
Mel, good morning.
Good morning. Members of Congress,
Democrats from Maryland and Virginia could be assuming
some top leadership positions on Capitol Hill
with a mandate from Voters for Change. It was
a night of celebration before the work
of actually having to keep campaign promises begins.
Running to the checkered flag,
Maryland Governor Wes Moore returned to office for a second term
with 62 percent of the vote count defeating Republican Dan Cox.
Voters in Maryland approved ballot question number three,
which would open the door to partisan redistricting,
potentially putting Maryland's only Republican held seat in play.
That Republican, Andy Harris,
won re-election on Maryland's eastern shore.
The seven other congressional Democrats won
their races, including first-timer
Adrian Boafo from Prince George's County,
succeeding retiring Congressman Steny Hoyer.
Representative Jamie Raskin is now in line
to become chairman of the powerful
House Judiciary Committee responsible for potential investigations.
We want to get beyond the chaos, the corruption,
the war, the inflation, all of the madness
and start moving America forward again.
And in Virginia, Senator Mark Warner won
his fourth term in the Senate with 61% of the vote.
He could become chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee.
Locally, voters in Northern Virginia returned Democrats,
Byers, Supermonium, Walkinshaw,
and Vindman to the House of Representatives.
One race in Virginia, Beach, flipped from Republican to Democrat.
Two races with Republican incumbents are still too close to call.
Voters in the Commonwealth
also approved all three constitutional amendments
addressing abortion rights, marriage equality, and voting rights.
And in the District of Columbia,
Janice Lewis-George will be D.C.'s next mayor.
Robert White will succeed Eleanor Holmes Norton,
representing D.C. in Congress.
And both should have a little bit of an easier time
with Democrats in charge on Capitol Hill
rather than the past conflicts
with a Republican-led House Oversight Committee
that Mayor Muriel Bowser had to navigate.
Now back here live in Baltimore,
Governor Moore plans to hold a media event this morning
where we expect he will talk about the plan.
All right, and we'll bring that to you when it happens.
In the meantime, updates on all the race results locally
and nationally are on our website.
