Due to the deep economic ties between the two regions, residents are particularly concerned with how the shift toward Democratic victories will impact trade relations, tariffs, and the completion of the Gordie Howe International Bridge.
We aren't the only ones keeping a close eye on the elections.
After a dramatic, drawn-out battle over tariffs
and the Gordie Howe Bridge,
our neighbors across the border are also keeping tabs
on what the midterms mean moving forward.
Fox 2's Lauren Edwards is live in Windsor
to show us how Canadians are reacting to the results.
Lauren.
You know, I think it was called Roop, a big blue wave,
and it definitely happened in Michigan.
And a lot of folks across over behind me in Detroit were looking at it,
but so were a lot of people here in Windsor, Canada.
Let's get into all the details and coming up soon what they had to say.
Now, the Democratic candidate, Dr. Abdul Al-Sayed,
was elected to Senate over his GOP opponent, Mike Rogers.
And Democrat Jocelyn Benson beat Republican John James
for the governor's seat.
And Canadians tell Fox, too, that they watched all night.
Long, actually, they have been paying attention
for months from tariffs war to the on again
and off again opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge.
Canadians have told Fox too many times in the past
that they pay close attention because it deeply impacts them,
their day to day lives and their pockets.
Now tonight, Fox two spoke to a number of folks
in Windsor about how they're feeling about the midterm results.
And many did not want to go on camera, but a few did.
And here's what they had to say.
Fantastic, very excited about it.
Time for a change, time for a change
and I hope this will improve relations especially now that
Michigan's blue
and I am glad that people did not bow down to fear-mongering.
I try to stay neutral mostly
so interesting you know here in Canada all I've heard for a couple
of days is about the midterms
and of course you know everybody is concerned about trade right and
So on as you know, now coming up on the edge,
just what do they hope happens over these
next few months, especially in January
when everyone is sworn and you're going to hear
that soon for now reporting live here in Windsor,
Ontario, Lauren Edwards, Fox two news.
Yeah, you know, Lauren, President Trump got
a lot of pressure saying you got to end this
trade war with Canada.
Even Mike Rogers himself saying this has got to end.
I imagine that that still is something
that is pretty stressful for the people across
Absolutely, Rup. It's been top of mind here for months.
I've come so many times and talked to a number of Canadians
and it was top of mind then. It is top of mind tonight.
A lot of people just really concerned about this trade war
and what it means for them.
And so they're hoping for some sort of resolution soon.
Reporting live from Canada in Windsor tonight,
Lauren Edwards. Thank you, Lauren.
