A planned protest and boycott of Jewish
and Israeli-owned businesses in Philadelphia,
and tonight it's being condemned by,
among others, both senators from Pennsylvania
and the state's attorney general.
This is the 10 o'clock news. I'm Jason Martinez.
So this so-called boycott bike ride is set to take place on Sunday,
the eve of a Nazi-organized attack on Jewish homes,
synagogues, and businesses.
And, Seanette, many people upset by this,
but the community is getting a lot of support here.
Yeah, Jason, our local businesses
are getting support here at home, but also from out of
state. Still, there is a real concern about what could happen.
One business owner tells me,
though, his doors will no doubt remain open.
I would assume they have very strong hate towards
me and my people, I would say,
in order to organize something like this.
Yehuda Seichel is talking about
a planned bike boycott promoted in this flyer circulating on
on social media.
Nobody should be
Subject to that, based on their faith, based on their race,
based on their religion, based on their views.
The target, Jewish-owned businesses.
It lists several in Philadelphia,
seen here circled with a line through the names,
including Huda in Rittenhouse, where Saishal is the chef and owner.
It's unclear exactly what the cyclists will do when they ride by.
Essentially a bike tour of Jewish-slash-Israeli-owned businesses
that support the state of Israel.
that are, quote, Zionists.
They said on the flyer they want these businesses out.
They want the Zionists out,
and they want these businesses out of their town.
To me,
That is right out of the Nazi playbook.
Seichel says even more concerning
is that the bike boycott is planned for the weekend,
which he says just happens to be the eve
of the anniversary of Kristallnacht,
when riots happened in Germany right before the Holocaust.
Hundreds of people were killed in the streets.
Every Jewish store, windows were smashed, synagogues were burned.
People were beaten in the streets.
My grandfather was in Germany at the time.
He saw it as a 10-year-old child.
Luckily, he survived.
He came to this country.
The Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia
posted on its website a message
condemning the organized bicycle rally,
saying in part,
let's be clear, this is anti-Semitism.
It is Jew hatred.
plain and simple. It goes on to say marking businesses for removal
from Philadelphia is an attempt to intimidate, marginalize
and exclude members of the Jewish community from the economic
and civic life of our city. We will not be terrorized.
Seychelles says he will be open the day of the boycott along
with other Jewish owned businesses standing in solidarity.
We're here. We're not going anywhere.
You know, we're absolutely not going anywhere.
And Philadelphia police say that they are aware of the planned rally
and will prioritize the safety of everyone involved,
including the general public.
Meanwhile, there is a food crawl scheduled to help support
these businesses that are being affected. You can get more information
on that by going to Fox 29 dot com. Jason. All right.
