But we've got to want to begin with Blake Devine.
He is at the Citibank complex for us tonight
with the very latest developments. Blake, what have you learned?
Allie, 3200 Citibank employees were just at work.
Many of them were at lunch when gunshots erupted,
sending them scrambling for their lives.
Right now, obviously still a lot of law enforcement presence right
at the front of this campus. We also obtained 911 audio
of some of the first calls that came in. Take a listen.
We are in the city bank office in Tampa and somebody is shooting.
Okay, and what is the address that you're at?
No, I can't recall the address right now.
In the city bank office in Tampa.
And it's hard to imagine what those employees endured through.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office,
the gunman drove through a fence at the center,
crashing into an outdoor seating area where people were eating lunch.
He then stepped out of his car with a rifle, immediately opening fire,
shooting and killing a woman. Within a matter of minutes,
an armed Citibank security guard shot that gunman in the cafeteria.
Tonight, we are seeing the body camera footage
from investigators as they first showed up on scene.
What does he look like from that way subject subject
is in the cafeteria possibly down and the male suspect
was eventually taken to Tampa General Hospital where he later died.
We caught up with a Citibank employee
who described the terrifying moments as he hit for his life.
People were screaming, running up the stairs,
so I ran into a closet with about nine other people
and just hid there for about 45 minutes,
hearing some screaming, some running above us,
and then just waited for the cops to come.
What's going on?
And sheriff's deputies tell us it took them two
and a half hours to clear that massive building. After that,
they cleared six other buildings to ensure that everyone was safe.
In total, over 360 law enforcement officers responded with drones
and tactical vehicles helping secure the scene.
Four other people were also injured and taken to a local hospital.
Thankfully, all of them are expected to make a full recovery,
and tonight, Citibank confirmed
that the woman killed was one of their employees,
and a memo sent to staff.
Citibank CEO Jane Fraser wrote in part, quote,
this is a terrible tragedy for our city family.
My heart goes out to our colleagues, loved ones,
all our colleagues in Tampa, and everyone
affected by this horrific act of violence.
I am grateful to the brave actions of our security team
who prevented this awful day
from being.
Even worse. Now, as far as Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies go,
they plan on being here all night long as they are canvassing the
scene, trying to piece together if this was indeed a targeted attack.
Allie, it is just so heart wrenching
when you hear the audio on that body cam video in real time.
You know, the anxiousness and what they were going through.
Thank goodness again for that security guard
who was able to take that suspect down.
At this time, do we know anything about who that security guard is?
Allie, while we don't know his name, he has been hailed a hero tonight.
Just four minutes after those first 911 calls came in,
Sheriff's deputies say he stepped up
and obviously he ended up shooting the gunman down.
And officers are saying he saved several lives with his heroic actions.
Wow. Well, we are grateful for him for sure.
Blake Devine, live for us there at the Citibank campus in Brandon.
Blake, thank you.
