Home destroyed after fire and explosion shake community near Calgary

Boy, a huge fire and at least one explosion just north of Okotoks this morning, a neighbor less than a kilometer away, says she thought the explosion was an earthquake. I guess around 7 a.m. this morning, we just felt an explosion. It rattled the whole house. Everyone jumped out of bed. It's devastating for the homeowners. It was a beautiful house. I see it's gone now and I just feel for everyone in the neighborhood. Everyone kind of will be affected. Emergency crews have been on scene throughout the morning battling the flames when they arrived on scene. The house was fully involved. Um Both residents were able to exit the building and they were taken to hospital as a precautionary measure. Earlier, a large volume of smoke blanketed the area. The property is located near two schools and a hockey rink. The Heritage Heights School is closed today with students on buses taken to another school in Okotoks. Officials say no one was injured and at this time, there's nothing suspicious about the fire. Chelsea Mutter, CBC News, Foothills County.
