Check this out. If you love a good thrift find or,
a little Austin nostalgia from rare books to
antique furniture from pieces of Austin's past,
and they're getting a second chance at a new home.
Best part, every purchase helps preserve
the city's history. Good day, Austin. It's Juliana
Jackson showing us some of the treasures up for grabs.
We're kind of jealous of the bookshelves,
Juliana. They're sold.
I know they just said the bookshelves were sold,
but there's so many other wonderful pieces here
for this weekend's estate sale.
We've been having so much fun getting to check them all out, but I'm
here with Adam Powell. He's the executive director
of the Austin Historical Association, so he's
going to give a little bit more background
on what we can expect this weekend here at this
wonderful sale.
Yeah, well, again, we're focused on just getting
this building reopened to the public,
and these pieces have seen so much library history.
It's really special to us that folks who, you know,
ultimately City of Austin taxpayers funded this,
and now they're going to be able to have a piece of history.
back in their living room. We're so excited.
Yeah, it's awesome. And anyone and everyone can
come. And like you said, there's
so many wonderful pieces here that you can fix up for yourself. You
can have them in your office home.
So we're going to walk a little bit more into one of the rooms
that are going to be open to the public.
And so we have some wonderful, beautiful prints here.
And so can you tell us a little bit about what
this is on the table? Absolutely. And this is
going to be accessible price points.
So these stacks of prints are literally $1 a piece. These
These are things that have been exhibited before.
Maybe just in the back end of the collections,
stuff that the archival staff can reproduce
quickly, but could be a real treasure for folks to have.
And to your point about everything being for sale,
the table that this is on, it looks
like it doesn't have the best curb appeal,
but this is a really awesome table for the
right person who wants to put in the work
and time and effort to really revitalize this.
Yeah, awesome.
And again, starts this afternoon around 3 p.m., goes until 7.
And so what are you most excited
for to bring people into this building real quick?
What I'm most excited for is just for more people
to come to the Austin History Center.
We have this building.
We have the John Henry Falk Central Library building next door.
That's the new home of the archives.
And we find the most important thing that people need
to know about the Austin History Center is that it exists.
And for folks to come here
and enjoy this beautiful municipal archive of ours.
Perfect. Thank you so much. We're so excited.
Thank you for joining us. Reporting live
downtown, Juliana Jackson. Back to you.
