Keys to Kenosha gives public inside access to 52 sites Saturday

Well, it's called Keys to Kenosha. It's an event where people can get an inside look at buildings in Kenosha, some of which really aren't open to the public. And it's happening tomorrow. Our Racine Kenosha County reporter, Ben Hanson, gives us a preview. Have you ever seen a building in Kenosha and thought, I wonder what's in there? We've got a lot of manufacturing heritage. We've got a lot of historic buildings, but we're also at a time where a lot of new buildings are coming out. Well, so did Tim Casey, director of Kenosha City Development and the mind behind Keys to Kenosha. Saturday's free first-time event will be opening up buildings throughout the city, some of which the public is usually not allowed inside. We've got a time where there's a lot of new architecture coming into the city and the immediate area, but it blends with the old favorites, the historic buildings and churches and neighborhoods. Keys to Kenosha includes 52 locations for people to visit, including here at the Kenosha Innovation Center. The event took just over a year to plan, and the organizers expect over 100 volunteers to help at all the sites. Vice President of Partners in Design Architects Mark Molyneux Jr. was born and raised in Kenosha. And as an architect, when Tim asked him to help with the event, he didn't hesitate. And this is really what Kenosha is all about over the last three decades is is post car manufacturing. What have we become? What are we becoming? And to me, the keys to Kenosha is just part of beginning to continuing that explanation of that transformation here in Kenosha. The open sites include historic and government buildings, places of worship, museums, Businesses and even the streetcar along with many volunteers Tim and Mark both plan to grow the event in years to come and really I think contributes to maybe a better appreciation of everything that Kenosha has to offer and nothing wrong with a little civic pride in Kenosha. Ben Hanson Fox 6 News. Nothing wrong at all with little civic pride. Those buildings in the event will be open from 10 to 4 tomorrow and again it is free. Check it out for more.
