That is where we begin tonight on Fox 5 News at 5.
In downtown McKaysville, the cleanup is underway
from the devastating flash flooding earlier this week.
Good evening. Thanks so much for joining us. I'm Tom Haines.
I'm Courtney Bryant. Fox 5's Larry Sproul continues our coverage
tonight live in downtown McKaysville with the latest. Larry?
Good evening, Courtney and Tom.
It's an all hands on deck cleanup approach here in downtown
McKaysville. Take a look behind me.
Crews have been out here all day. They are still out here
cleaning up and picking up leftover debris from that flooding.
But tonight, local leaders are
asking for help. We need help with GEMA and FEMA
and our federal partners to help this city.
I understand we've got to give relief and aid to other countries,
But we need help. We need help here in the United States of America.
We need help in this city.
Friday, McCaseville's Public Safety Director Mike Early did
not hold back. It's a powerful message mixed with frustration.
Everyone has lost everything. Our grocery stores, our service stations,
our police department, our post office, our banks.
Thanks.
The way we live here in
McKaysville has lost everything.
That's the reality for many
in downtown McKaysville,
just days after heavy rain
swept through the area as we
were able to for the first time.
Show up today to actually start taking a look, seeing what's happening.
Jeremy Cowles is the president
of People First Bank in downtown McKaysville.
His bank is one of the many homes and businesses damaged by the flood.
Quite a bit of damage inside.
The water level probably got to five or six feet throughout the branch,
maybe a little bit less.
Yes.
So right now we have the insurance gestures out here.
We've had our, you know, remedy contractor out here
so we could start taking a look and get our game plan to move forward.
That's why a state of emergency was issued
for this area along with the overnight
So basically the plan for the day is we're just trying
to get with all the business owners,
all the residents that was affected by the flood.
We're telling them just to pile all their debris out in the streets.
We're coming through and picking it up,
putting it in dumpsters and hauling it off.
It's going to be probably weeks before we get everything cleaned up.
But as the mayor stated, we're not leaving until it's done.
And they also issued a boil water
advisory for this area as well.
We are live in downtown McKaysville.
I'm Larry Sproul, Fox 5 News, Larry.
Thanks state official.
