Meghan Markle's dad arrested on child porn charge

Developing now here at 4 o'clock, federal authorities arrest Thomas Markle. He's the estranged father of Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex. Fox News' Rebecca Castor has more on those charges. Meghan Markle's estranged father, Thomas Markle, has been arrested by federal agents on a charge of possession of child pornography. He was taken into custody at this senior living home in Florida where he was receiving care for dementia. We moved quickly to arrest him. We just charge a single count, but more charges will be added. Federal authorities say they found sexually explicit slides, film negatives, and books in two Los Angeles storage units rented and paid for by Markle for nearly 20 years. There were allegedly photos of Markle with young, nude girls. The investigation began after authorities in the Philippines discovered similar photos in a home previously owned by Markle. Those accusations led authorities to a storage locker in Mexico and then the storage units in L.A. The 82-year-old denied these allegations when they first surfaced last month. He's being charged with possessing those items in L.A. He could still face potential charges from the Philippines or other jurisdictions if they decide to pursue charges. Megan previously told the L.A. Times she is deeply distressed by the allegations, but she has not yet commented on the arrest. She did not allow her father to come to her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry and released a statement saying, quote, Any distance from my father and my choice to not allow him to have contact with our children was for one reason, to protect them. This is a soap opera, this is drama that continues to unfold before our eyes, but these are very serious allegations. If convicted, Thomas Markle would face a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison. With his dementia diagnosis, his ability to stand trial could become a question.
