Midtown was filled with red, white,
and blue today as Atlanta honored our nation's heroes.
The annual Georgia Veterans Day Parade
and observance ceremony took place over at the Woodruff Arts Center.
That was this morning.
This year's theme honored veterans of the global war on terror
and marked the 25th anniversary of the September 11th attacks.
We talked with one veteran
who says he loves seeing the community show up in volumes.
It's huge to have everybody out supporting us.
We know, you know, back when people came back from Vietnam,
there wasn't the support. But nowadays, you see much more support.
You have a lot more people being thankful, you know, coming up
and thanking us for our service, which really means a lot to us
because, I mean, it is a selfless thing to join the military.
And hopefully we get more and more people that actually
are joining the military and putting in their service.
Celebrations will continue around Atlanta this weekend like this.
Hundreds of people in Fulton County spent the day honoring veterans.
Every city in Fulton County came together
to host the Eight Cities Veterans Motorcade.
It's
It's a free event that brought out motorcycles, Corvettes,
marching bands, and ROTC programs through the county.
Starting in Hapeville and ending in South Fulton,
organizers say this is the first time
the eight cities have come together to celebrate like this.
Taking office for the first time,
a lot of the veterans said they felt very underappreciated.
There was nothing here on the South Side for them.
They would have to go to other places to be celebrated
and recognized around Veterans Day.
And so I started way back when with doing a small fish fry,
and that has morphed now into eight cities.
The event also had live music, food trucks,
vendors, and family-friendly activities.
