We have yet another development in the case of Lamar Cook,
the former aide to Governor Maura Healey.
22 News reporter Nick Antonakis joins us live
in studio now with the latest.
Yeah, Claire Cook was indicted in Boston federal court on Wednesday,
now facing an additional wire fraud charge on top
of the two federal charges he already faces
and the multiple state charges that are stacked against him
in the drug trafficking and firearm case.
Here's all the latest.
A federal grand jury in Boston returned
an indictment against Lamar Cook this week.
The former aide to Governor Maura Healey
was arraigned in federal court last month
on one count of snap fraud and one count of wire fraud.
Now, as of Wednesday,
a second wire fraud charge was stacked against him.
According to court documents,
prosecutors accused Cook of devising and executing a scheme
to get money from SNAP benefits,
saying Cook's application was full of lies.
The indictment alleges Cook falsely stated
his monthly income was less than $150,
despite his fiancée making over $80,000 a year.
Cook also said he had less than $100 in his bank account,
even though there were allegedly thousands of dollars there.
On top of all that, Cook's application said he's paying $2,000
a month in rent, which documents say he did
not do on the Springfield residence.
Now this all comes as Cook faces drug trafficking
and gun charges here at Hamden Superior Court.
In Springfield last month, Cook had his bail revoked
in that case where he's accused of receiving eight kilograms
of cocaine for failing to abide by all federal laws.
That's because of the snap and wire fraud charges.
Cook now must be arraigned again in Boston Federal Court.
That's set for Monday at 1230. For all the latest on Lamar Cook,
