So the glow in the dark is not magic and it's not paint. It's actually
yarn I've taken thread yarn
and combined it with a solid color of worsted weight to give a super
cool effect in the dark the glow in the dark yarn it's
from Bling Bling Yarn you'll see a link in
the description if you use my promo code you can get 10% off
not only do they have thread glow in
the dark yarn but they have worsted weight
variegated different colors they have like a whole
There's a whole array to do.
tons of different kinds of projects
but i wanted to try out this thread yarn and
see if i could incorporate it with other yarn to make that yarn glow
and as you can see
It does glow.
So the other yarn was from my Timu haul
that if you haven't seen it already, go check it out.
You'll see all of the different yarn
and tools that I got and what I think of them.
I'm doing deep dive videos as well so you can see,
did I enjoy crocheting with this yarn?
Is it comfortable right now?
I'm not going to tell you here.
You're going to have to go watch the other video.
This is all about just making this pattern.
So grab some yarn, some glow in the dark for extra fun.
Download the pattern below and we'll get started.
For the tall chain, you can see my video on what those do for you,
but we're looking at the actual
post of the row below.
We're doing front post double crochets to begin with, so we're going
around that whole post of the double crochet below
and completing just a regular double crochet.
So again, we yarn over, we look for that post from the row below,
around in this case and then we're putting
our hook behind it to push it to the front so that's
why it's called a front post double crochet
and then you just finish it as normal. We're going to
do one more of those for a total of three
so heading around there and then next we're going
I'm going to create the basket weave by doing
Back post double crochets. These are a little bit more awkward
so again we're looking for that post
but we're coming from behind and then going around that stitch
and then pulling our yarn up and this
is where it gets a little tricky
because you want to get that loop in front of your hook
and then finishing off your double crochet as normal.
Then we're going to do two more of those again.
So again we're looking for that post.
We're coming from the right side over to the left side
in front of that post to push it to the back,
pulling up our loop, and then finishing off
our double crochet as normal.
One more time around that front and back through and then
Finishing off. So that gives us
that basket weave look you're going to see in the next round
how it actually works out because we're going to kind of change that.
You'll see that I have
my glow-in-the-dark thread already attached
to the first round of double crochets. I'm going to
show you how we kind of work with it in this coming up round
because we are going to do it
every other round to make it last and it
Glows beautifully with this process.
You don't have to add it every single round so that'll
stretch out your yarn but let's go around
and show you how to join this round and also put in
our yarn. So here we are on the end of our round.
We are looking past that tall chain and we're
Creating a slip stitch in that first double crochet.
So the tall chain creates no gap. That's why we like it or I like it
But I went ahead and started my tall chain.
I did I did the lock in stitch now
I'm grabbing my glow-in-the-dark thread and I'm just bringing it up and
Laying it right with my regular yarn to start working with it
It's super simple to work with an extra thread by just running it along
as if they were one so we're gonna look at our actual post from below
and we're gonna do the
opposite so in this case we had front post double crochets
at the beginning we're going to now do
back post double crochets in those front post double crochets
to give the basket weave effect
so we're looking for that post below we see it's in the front
We're going to just go right in front of it
to pull it to the back and create that
back post double crochet for the basket weave effect.
You'll see the little fronts kind of pop down
and then next we're going to do our front
post double crochets.
So again, we're going to look for that post,
bring it to the front and complete our double
crochet as normal.
So it's going to go back and forth.
Each round and it's going to push the post back
and forth to give that basket weave effect.
I wanted to show this to you as a little PSA
because this yarn ended up having a knot or two
in it and that happens a lot and you're about to see it in a second,
but I wanted to show you what you should do
As you come to a knot in your work, so looking at this knot,
I could try working it in and seeing
how it lays in the project.
It's not always gonna lay wrong or weirdly, so you could always
try crocheting it in first and seeing what happens to it
when you finish your stitch.
Um, if it is not laying great though,
and it's popping to the front and you don't want
it showing, here's something that you can do,
especially if you don't have scissors
handy at the moment, you have the project on the road or something.
So instead we're going to pull out a couple of extra stitches.
And we're going to do this to create kind of a tail.
So we're going to pull out a few stitches
so we get a good enough tail to be able to weave in where that knot is.
Then we're going to pull
out some extra inches on the other side of the knot.
So we've created this really long double
tail. Just picture that you're going
to cut that knot out in the future.
We're going to create that long tail
and then we're going to go and join it
as if we had started a new ball of yarn
and we're going to go ahead and just do our regular stitch
bring it in and just move on and put it in there
and we're going to have that knotted yarn
with its two tails hanging in the back of the project
that we can cut out and weave in later
so if you're not around scissors
and don't want to take the time to you know create the the
The cuts right then and there,
this is a solution you can do to keep working without having to stop
and go find those scissors. So that's your little PSA of the day.
Here's some last thoughts. So that
is the basics of the petite basket weave cowl.
Have you tried glow-in-the-dark yarn? I would
love to know what you think about adding that to your yarn
or just doing an entire project.
In it, go buy yourself some glow-in-the-dark yarn and have fun!
