More than half of Houston, Harris Co. renters are cost burdened

A new report from Rice University's Kinder Institute reveals that over half of renters in Houston and Harris County are cost-burdened, spending more than 30% of their income on housing. While some rents are declining, low wages, high property taxes, and rising utility costs continue to drive unaffordability, disproportionately affecting low-income residents and minorities.
